GrimGreg
Retreads are a crap shoot. They do like to delaminate when they get overheated on the road. Never heard any issues offroad, but that doesn't mean there haven't been any.
dagwoodzz
delamination would be hell on fenders at highway speeds. ever seen them come off a big truck? Off road only use would probably not be bad, even if you lost the tread you could limp back home. I would consider it depending how empty my pockets were. GrimGreg
I think I would go with these if I did use any retread http://www.greendiamondtire.com/productswest2.html
mws
Retreads done right are excellent. Retreads done wrong are horrible. Do your research, talk to as many customers as you can, make your decision about how trustworthy they seem to be.
jj big shoe
I think I would go with these if I did use any retread http://www.greendiamondtire.com/productswest2.html That looked promising until I added them to my basket. I thought the $180 price was for four, not per tire. For that price I'd rather go with a new set of BFG's.
nunya
My luck with retreads was never good, not fun when one comes apart. It IS funny watching someone do a burnout on one and it come apart. Depending on funds I would personally stay away especially if doeing alot of highway time. That is just me though.
94extreme
i've had retreads on a pick up once, never again. they didn't come apart or anything even close but balancing those things.. good luck with that.
Jocoracing
Thanks a bunch. I will be coming back from my tour in the middle east in january so i think i'll just spring for some BFG's probably
RedPath88
I have had retreads on a car (Ford Escort) twice and both times they turned out to be excellent tires. However, those were smaller on raod non-performance tires, I don't think I would risk it with high performance or larger offroad tires.
91PathSE
I will never buy retreads again..Mid way through highschool I put them on the F150 I was driving...Offroad they were ok traction wise and wear wise, They did eventually blow apart at 40k +/-....Never again on a truck or suv. adamzan
This tire says Michelin on the side but is clearly a bridge stone dueler at revo tread
91PathSE
you can see where the two tires or, the tire and retread meets.
GrimGreg
This tire says Michelin on the side but is clearly a bridge stone dueler at revo tread Yeah, that is typical. they use all brands for the body and slap a tread on it. The side might say AT, but the tread might be an MT...or if you order a set of 4 31x10.50 MTs you might get 1 Michelin, 1 BFG and 2 Generals all retreaded with the same tread pattern that might be the same as a Dunlop tread. That seems wrong. There has to be a difference in sidewall stiffness, cords/winding, etc... Having essentially 4 different tires on the same truck must affect handling! Having essentially 4 different tires on the same truck must affect handling! B Yep, that is a risk, but if you don't specify "matched set" then it could be the truth. Just look through some of the availabilities on different sizes and treads they offer. It sounds like they try to keep them matched up and warn if they won't be, but you also never know how worn the carcass is. Matched or not 3 could have been originally manufactured in 1995 and the last could have been a 1985, but they are matching....
Precise1
Not that I ever considered retreads before, but... No thanks... B
