I swapped mine out for the Quest 120 amp alt, There is substantially more modification you have to do to the alt before install but i think 88 did a write up on it.

Well actually if you modify the bracket and make a small mounting bolt spacer, then there is no modification required on the alternator ;)

Im lost here...isnt it that the alternator has to be grounded off on the top 2 holes where the long bolt goes thru to fit the factory bracket? and the bottom mount holes where you mount the other bracket with adjuster has to be grounded too?

I'll have to find the pics of my install or take new ones.. and review how I did it

awesosme....Id really like to have a bigger alty but after looking at that other post seems that there has to be a lot of grinding on the alty (voids the warranty too)..I dont mind doing it once but how if the alty fails and id have to grind the replacement again...I was thinking on thaT MOD why not grind the bracket on top and make it narrower to accomodate the narrower top mounts on those quest alty.

but anyhow your install is better if theres no mod that has to be done on the alty

I recently swapped the 60 amp alternator in my 90 sentra with a 110 amp alternator out of a 95 -97 Maxima, the alternator in the maxima's come in 110 or 125 amp outputs, I did have to make a small bracket due to the "ear" on the new alt. being in a different location and had to re-wire the maxima alt's plug to the sentra's harness as they are different but it was easy to do. Plus junkyard was having a sale so I got it for $10, I did take it to an electrical shop to have it tested and to get a better pulley but it works great and is a big difference from 60 to 110 amps.

Also the stock sentra alternator looks identical to the pathfinder alt.

Anyone find a V pulley that fits the maxima alternator? I don't feel like making a spacer for a two piece pulley. I'm sure there is a car out there that has the pulley we need to just swap it out.

My 88 is going to require taking the spacer off the pathy alt shaft and cutting it from 1/2" to 1/4" and putting it on the maxi alt. Not exactly a "true bolt on" for me, but nothing is ever easy. However, one week until Big Bend and some serious wheeling.

I just have one stupid question...

So I found an alternator on a Maxima that looks pretty much the same front and back as a Pathfinder one does except with slightly more beef.

Front

Now when the pulley comes off it looks like...

Is that how the V-belt pulley is? Would a V-belt pulley swap directly or do I need to make an adapter?

That would be why a spacer is needed by some people (myself included) as I stated when I did mine, I just cut an old socket down to the needed depth. Still 0 issues since then with it as well :aok:

No, it was from a SOHC VG Maxima. Upon further research it looks like if you own a 70amp alternator then the pulley will swap directly into the 90amp unit. The people that have to make adapters are the ones swapping the pulley from a 60amp unit because of the external cooling fins.

Hey guys, I just did this swap yesterday. In the morning, my old alternator was running 14.3v and when I gave it load by turning on the head lights on high and the ac on full blast the voltage to drop to 13.3 and the car would stall out. In the afternoon I did the swap with a 94 Max alt. It worked great for about 5 minutes. I started the car and my multi-meter read 19v.wow what a jump. I gave it the load test again, dropped to 18v. Got below and tighten up a few thing, when I look back at my meter is reading 12.3v and dropping. Did I just blow my new alternator, fuse, or the flux capacitor? I can’t figure out what went wrong. Please help; I need this vehicle for tomorrow work.

Thanks
