What do you always have with you?

What do you guys always carry with you in your trucks? I have a very dismal list that includes jumpers, bungies, ratchet straps, bottle of oil, flashlight, flares, a flat tire kit and a mini air compressor. I plan to do some major mods this summer and do A LOT more wheeling...what else should I have?

I have not even been carrying a spare tire everyday , maybe it is a good idea to think about what to carry. Thanks. :goodpost:http://www.nissanpathfinders.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=27734

Oooo this is my kinda thread. I went out and looked in my pathy and this is the stuff that is in there at all times.

First off, a view of my back storage, not to bad.

PICT0167.jpg

Top of pile, first aid kit. I am not impressed by most store bought FAK's because they are little more than a bunch of band-aids. This one I put together myself and I keep it in a Pelican case.

PICT0154.jpg

I'll elaborate on what exactly is in there if anyone wants.

Let's see what else I have...

Next up, a 30. cal. ammo can with about 8 or 9 15min road flares. I like to keep em' in the ammo can to keep them "fresh"

PICT0155.jpg

Now for my homemade C02 tire filler upper. Cost me eh, 40 bucks or so minus the tank which I already had.

Just getting started...

Ok what next, how about my old shaving bag from my days in the Marines? In there I have various tools, zip-ties and whatnot.

PICT0163.jpg

I modded a couple plastic storage box thingys to keep these things neat and organized.

First one is tire repair stuff, plugs, plug tools, pressure gauge, valve caps. I still need some valve cores and core tool.

PICT0157.jpg

Spare fuses and fuse puller tool.

Air compressor, this one clips to the car battery, I hate those ones that plug into the cig lighter, my friend had one of those, fried it trying to fill up an SUV tire, (never did the job) after that it could barely fill a bike tire.

What's in the white bucket? Recovery straps, 3 D-ring shackles, some nylon rope, rags and various tie-downs I did not want to untangle for the photo.

PICT0160.jpg

BEEFY shackles I might add.

PICT0161.jpg

The tool kit I got for Christmas.

There's my jumper cables!

Cargo floor compartment has reflective triangles, 2 half hour road flares, duct tape and orange-ish safety... uh, tape? It's not sticky, the stuff you are SUPPOSED to mark things you are hauling that stick out the back. Pipe, lumber ect. The yellow stick is a fiberglass rod about 3 feet long. It's handy for poking, probing, and whipping through the air real fast to make that sound.

A flashlight mounted near the driver side rear wheel well.

A good old cross type lug nut wrench fits under the rear seat along with the factory jack, tools and whatnot.

PICT0169.jpg

Another flashlight mounted in an easy to reach place while driving. 12 volt, 200 lumen, eye scorching tactical style.

PICT0168.jpg

That sums up my everyday carry. I'll toss in other things when going into the mountains. I might cover those later.

On board air compressor and tank that can fill up tires and run air tools. Full set of air tools and hand tools. Pretty much every fluid that the truck takes in spare. Emergency welding setup. Medical kit. Emergency pack with clothes, food and water. Etc.

You want valve stem cores? I can give you all those you want! I got an oil filter box full of em! And a core tool is like 5 bucks tops, or there is valve caps that double as core removers.

Oh thank you, but seems like a silly thing to mail any distance. It's been on my buy list, but it has a low priority.

  • 3 weeks later...

I add a couple of 2" x 8" x 36" planks to wedge under the tires in the snow or sand for traction when stuck, and a couple of short 4" x 4" pieces that I have used with my barrel jack when I have been hung up on the frame.....

I really don't have much.

  • Fire extinguisher
  • Dwindling roll of 3M electrical tape
  • ~2qts of engine oil, ~1qt PSF, ~1qt ATF, a can of brake cleaner. I say ~ because all of the bottles have a small amount used.
  • Some spare windshield washer hose
  • A bunch of damn trim clips pocketed from junkyard Pathfinders
  • An extra oil pan drain plug
  • Some small 1/4" drive socket sets
  • 1/2" drive torque wrench with 10mm, 14mm, 19mm sockets, and a 1/2" to 3/8" reversible socket converter
  • 1/4" drive torque wrench
  • A plastic box filled with random computer cables, a Linksys wireless router, and a toothbrush & floss in a Ziploc bag
  • A Gateway Solo 9300 laptop running Windows XP
  • A Gateway PS/2 keyboard
  • Half-empty touch-up paint bottle from Nissan, with a bunch of paint all over the damn bottle
  • Bunch of installation media for various editions of Windows XP, Vista, 7, and Office 2007 and 2010
  • Random music CDs I never listen to anymore since I got a head unit with auxiliary input
  • One white Bic lighter
  • Some napkins
  • More random tools (ratcheting screwdriver, box cutter, a short & stubby screwdriver, some pliers and wire cutters) in the bottom center console compartment
  • The glove box contains the owner's manual, some spare fuses, instruction booklet for the fire extinguisher, and 4 or 5 receipts for parts from Nissan and another receipt from AAP. And the pair of safety glasses I just got for free. And of course, insurance and registration cards.

I really should at least get some quality jumper cables, and give away the spare 2 quarts of make-up oil I've got and just keep one quart instead. Maybe keep a gallon of distilled water for coolant or drinking in an emergency. Should prolly throw in some toilet paper and some disposable cups too.

Can you tell that I'm a computer technician?

Lol I could because I'm the same thing but I never leave anything of value in my truck. But that is getting off topic.

A laptop from 2001 with no battery, and a router that has firmware issues (if power goes out, it dies and must be reflashed IIRC, but DD-WRT might have fixed that), hmmm... not too much of value there. Plus I use the cargo shade. Probably the most valuable thing in the trunk is a 120W can-size power inverter from China that'll surely burn the car down eventually, and the USB OBDII scanner I bought for $28.
