blamtro
I recently aquired a '97 XE 2wd. The only thing I dislike about it is the 2wd. I would like a 4wd vehicle. Would it be cheaper to convert it a stock 4wd pathfinder or sell mine and purchase one. I tried the search function to no avail. I am interested in just a straight swap to the factory Nissan parts. What am I going to be getting into? Will need to just drop in the transfer case, new front 4wd end, or are there many parts that aren't 2wd to 4wd compatable? I realize I would need to source a new console for the inside and a transfer case, driveshafts, plus the additional 4wd parts. nissandoms47
add a new tranny to that too. the 2wd trans are different, the output shafts have different lengths between the 2wd and 4wd, so you would need a 4wd tranny. front axle, cvs, front driveshaft, 4wd spindles, hubs etc etc... blamtro
I was affraid the trans was different. What can I expect the difference in value to be between a 2wd and 4wd vehicle with all else being equal? Meaning, how much should i expect to shell out if I sold my pathy and bought an identical, but 4wd unit?
XPLORx4
Couple grand, probably. Check KBB.com or edmunds.com for comparable values. Edited August 22, 2006 by XPLORx4
4x4le
Check to see if you have a dummy t case. In that event you wouldnt need a new t case, but if you want a 4wd, probably should buy one
cdhicks99
If I had to convert one I would put a solid axle under it, probably just as cheap.
vengeful
It'll be cheaper, and much easier to just trade it for a 4x4.
