  1. Hi everyone, I just got a 98 XE. It is in really good condition apart from a slight murmur at low rpm. Mechanic said it needs a refurbished ECM. This was after putting in 900 bucks for a fuel injector. So far she drives great, and cosmetically she is in good condition. I am currently having the AC looked at. California can get hot (not bad right now.) Anyone have advice for driving and owning a car this old? I'm a newb, but then again I did not grow up with a lot so I'm learning as I go. The tires are almost 6 years old but I'm trying to get some miles out of them until I can afford new ones. I'm just trying to push her well beyond her 143k miles. I see a lot of them that have gone well beyond that. Thanks.
  2. Salutations and such to everyone here. Been lurking for a bit, searching google for answers and consistently come back to this website. Suppose it’s time to register and reap the benefits of the combined knowledge of the forum. Got a 2001 pathfinder le for a song, but the miles are creeping up and I have a few things to do to keep it tip top. I apologize in advance for my ignorance on the way things work around on here, I’ve never joined a part of a dedicated forum before. That being said, I’ve some suspension work to do that I could use some advice with, and maybe down the road a real nice oil leak
  3. I don't own a Pathfinder yet but I've been looking! I haven't been able to find out exactly, but is it possible to sleep in the back of an R50 without any sort of sleeping platform? I'm only 5'8" so don't need anything bigger than 6' of room at the most. Can you fit more than one person back there? I know lot's of people build sleeping storage platforms but I'd like to keep the versatility of a back seat. I know for a fact that the R51's have plenty of room for sleeping, but I'm worried that the R50 seats don't get flat enough, and that the wheel wells would get in the way, not to mention the length. What's everyone else's experience here?
  4. got my self a very clapped out and rusty 2003 r50. all that's done to it is a set of general grabber AT 2. I've also been dealing with a lovely lean code on bank 2 so I'd love to hear some ideas about that I did hook up some scanners and senors and noticed that both of my post O2 sensors are malfunctioning.
  5. Hello everyone! I have an '87 4x4 XE-V6 Pathfinder, and the automatic transmission is going bad. I am looking to either get it rebuilt or swap it out. My questions are; Would it be easier/better to have it rebuilt or to replace it? If I replace it, would it be better to have automatic or manual? I'm aware that I can replace it with one from a newer year, is there a specific year that works best in the 87? Without having to replace the engine as well? Can I replace it with one from an Xterra, and if so, what years/auto/manual would be best? I mainly use it for overlanding/offroading, and I will have to drive it on the freeway to get it there. I've done a lot of work to it so far, so I'm trying to find the best option that's not gonna break the bank! Thank you for helping me out!
  6. Howdy y'all, I'm a southern virginian living in prairies of alberta Canada. Purchased a 97 pathfinder se klondike edition automatic trans(3rd owner, second driver) about a year and a half ago. 360k on the clock when I got it, sitting comfortably at 380k now with some minor maintenance work and some upgrades(brakes, bushings, plugs+wires, front bearings, lifted 2 inch front/3 inch rear, drive belts, and tensioner pulleys.) Recently replaced the harmonic balancer as that separated from its bushing. Still lots to do on my list of repairs but I am absolutely in L O V E with this vehicle. I plan to keep it as long as the frame allows. Be it engine/transmission replace or rebuild, or bondo repairs to rusted out quater panels. I've got potential transmission issues currently that I'm hoping to get a lead on but yielded no results when using the search function. Figured before I make my own post about my problems I'd reach out for search topics I can pick through to find the answers I'm looking for. Thanks in advance and glad to have found this community.
  7. After chasing my curiosity about what the off-road world looks like and how people deck out their rigs with custom parts and swaps of all types, I ended up stumbling on this forum after doing a Google search for custom pathys. Started lurking more and more to see what you guys were all about and came to conclusion that you guys were cool enough to sign up for and kick it with. I was hyped to find this forum when I first did and I'm excited to have some time to sit down and finally introduce myself. Yay! So I'm not exactly *that* new because I signed up about 5 months ago, but I've never made a post until now mostly due to just finishing up another semester at CC. But a little background info about myself: A young 20-something student who knows nothing about cars and has never been off-roading but wants to dive right into that world with people who know all about those two things. Currently finishing up a B.S. with no set major. Very hands-on, knows how to weld and and wants to learn how to do machining. I brought my first car about 10 months ago. An '88 Pathfinder with the original VG30i engine running near 200,000 miles on it and counting. Bought her off a guy on Craigslist for $900. (Original asking price was $1,200). Came with 31" tires, a body lift and front/rear towing hitches. The most notable problems she has is slight engine ticking, the front control arms are slightly misaligned (seems like one of the control arms was busted off in the past and was welded back on without being properly aligned on the frame to match the front passenger side arm), the A/C system being completely shot and the odometer not spinning anymore as of a month ago (speedo and tachy still work). Majority of the components in the car are OEM and are starting to show signs of extensive aging, which means that they're definitely going to be replaced in the very foreseeable future. I knew from the get-go that she was going to be a project car and being a hands-on type of guy more than willing to learn how to do car work makes me all the more ecstatic about what I want to see out of her in the future. I went and bought the Hayden and Chilton manuals specific to the make and year model to help me out, and boy have they been a godsend! So far I've learned how to do the basic routine maintenance care (replaced the fuel and oil filters, super flushed the radiator, replaced the thermostat, changed the engine oil, swapped the spark plugs and plug wireset, etc.). My first major repair that I've done is an amateur front end alignment. Torsion bar looked like it was installed incorrectly. Flipped it around and saw a notable difference in how it handles bumps. Immediately grew a suspicion that the front end suspension might be messed up and that the bar doesn't look straight when the front of the car is jacked up.That's how I figured out the situation with the control arm. Tightened up everything afterwards and now the tires are misaligned again. Didn't help that the car was suspended on jacks when I was turning the tie rods. D'oh! But anyways, every day is another day to learn what makes my pathy tick. I can't tell you guys how grateful I am to have found this site. Just lurking through some of your guy's threads makes me feel like I'm in the right place to get my feet wet and one step closer to hitting up a trail soon. Before I forget to mention, I have not tested out the 4X4 to see if it still works. That test will be coming very soon, time permitted. ?
  8. Hi I'm new to NPORA and semi new to Nissan. I got 2 pathys: one is a gray on black 99 r50 vg33 2x4 stock that I picked up randomly 5 years ago because I needed transportation and the other I just picked up a week ago because i fell in love with pathys and it brought back my dream of making a runner/crawler. It is a gray black on black 03 r50 vg35 4x4 stock also. I've always wanted to build a runner/crawler and I think that my 03 r50 will be it. I've tinkered with cars for more than 15 years so I know a good amount about working on them. I could be called a garage mechanic. I'm planning on making the 03 r50 a mild project but who knows it might become a wild project if I become even more in love with it. Any help along the way to my dream would be much appreciated. Oh and I'm in Northern California near Roseville and I would like to join any meets if there are any to share any ideas and info on these rings. My plans for this rig is: *Front winch bumper *Rear HD / more clearance bumper *Maybe 2-3" lift *Bigger tires 31s or 33s, whichever will fit better *Nice roof rack for cargo and maybe tent conversion *All around led lighting bars and pods *Interior ideas ( storage, led lighting and guage lighting) *******and probably other stuff along the way *Pics of my loves coming soon* P.S. sorry for the long intro, I'm just soo excited about finding this site.
