I really don't know what Nissan is thinking... First they butcher the Pathfinder's lineage with the hideously oversized and no-fun R51 and JA60 Armada/QX56... My apologies to R51 and JA60 owners on this board. Then, they ruin their legendary flagship SUV (the Safari/Patrol) with the most hideous, gut-wrenching, vomit-inducing piece of crap by replacing the JA60 with the current model... Despicable. Now, they're going to further discredit the Pathfinder's lineage with a replacement that will share the same chassis as the Murano, Altima and Maxima... What the crap?!
Sorry for the rant... But I'm looking straight at you, Nissan, when I say, "the horror... The horror."

Nice truck, Mike. Please tell me you have plans for it, i.e., lift and all that schwag.
-
its prob the gear shifter seal!!! the four bolts that hold the stick in the trans.. i noticed mine was all caked with oil when i got it.. maybe thats where its coming from
Noted. Thanks for the input.
The truck's getting a full inspection Friday morning so I imagine everything will be checked and double-checked. Hopefully, it's mine by Friday.

They run the same tranny.
Are you sure its gear oil? If you have an RMS leak it will drip out the weep hole on the bell housing and get caught in the wind and run back. Other engine leaks can wind up in the under body too.
Whatever the source, It may be only a few drops a day times a few years rather than a lager leak that coated everything quickly.
If you don't back down, wipe everything down and see if you can find the source when you look for fresh trails.
Nope, it was gear oil. Clear brown, funny smell. Definitely not motor oil. And remember, it's not a VG-powered WD21.
In any case, the seller took it to a transmission shop this morning, and the gasket's shot.

Pretty amazing. But this car was designed for more than a boring straight line.
Gotta respect the time, money and energy invested, though.
-
Is there a difference between the manual transmission on a TD27-powered WD21 and that of the VG30E-powered WD21?
I'm looking at a '92 Terrano R3M and when I first when to check it out on Saturday, things were good. I was supposed to finalize the sale today but when did another quick check, the underside of the transmission was noticeably wet with gear oil. Between today and Saturday the seller put approx. 1,200km of highway mileage on the truck and noticed nothing out of the ordinary during the drive.
Any help would be much appreciated. This is my first foray into the WD21 universe.

Your initial post makes some very valid points and I couldn't agree more. But I think you should change the title to "Humanity Needs to Get a Clue."
Too many people whine about what humanity does to the planet, merely because they like to hear their own crying. Then you get these bandwagon jumpers who support this environmental stupidity and think they'll be saved when the planet cooks itself (which it won't), simply because they drive a stupid Prius. Then, these clowns have the audacity to lambaste those of us who would rather drive what makes us happy.
The fact of the matter is, there are more important problems for humanity to face than what kind of cars we should be driving. The so-called leaders of humanity are anything but... So they bicker amongst themselves like old grannies, failing to address the real issues, and this is becoming a trend in many first-world countries. I can only speak on behalf on my own country so I will. Instead of working together to find solutions, they waste our time and money with pointless elections and smear campaigns, like pathetic little kids still in high school. And then we get the 'soap opera' media coverage which does nothing but compound how ridiculous all of it is. How these mouth-breathers wake up each day and look at themselves in the mirror and think, "I'm doing my part to encourage the advancement and betterment of humanity and civilization" is completely beyond my intellectual comprehension. I think Michael Caine put it best in the Dark Knight: "Some men just want to watch the world burn." Unfortunate, as these are the dildoes who are our elected officials...
Sorry... I kinda veered off-topic there. I have a tendency to do that at times...
But yes, oil prices are stupid high... And this doesn't have to be the case!

Sounds like a promising mod. Hopefully, you can post some pics of your work.

If only you were closer, it would go on the MallCrawler99 so K could bash up some cars on her 60 mile commute...

Shipping's the only kicker with an item this size...

Your posted image has the fails.

I've been a happy Pathy owner since April 2008. I'm on my second R50, which is an '01 Infiniti QX4.
-
I'll take it off your hands ty. $8 and some bellybutton lint.
Edit: Found a paperclip. Add that. That's my final offer.
Can't say I'm surprised...
I decline your offer.

Good find!
Keep us posted on your progress.

F*ck the haters, Mike.
Nothing wrong with a Civic Si. In fact, the sedan in black looks pretty slick. A CAI would be a nice mod and has nothing to do with rice.
I have to admit, though. I'm a bit upset you let your rig go without taking out the rear LSD and selling it to me.
WHOA by " i guess you wont be wanting the TJM anymore " does that mean your selling yours?
OT: It's been sitting in storage since February. I was waiting on Mike to pull the trigger because I know he wanted it for his R50.
As of now, I'm debating putting up a for sale thread...

Quite the development... Nice Civic, BTW.
So... I guess you won't be wanting the TJM anymore, eh?
-
You just think it's easy because you haven't done it yet
Seems straightforward enough. Time will tell, I guess.
For the record, I'd rather tackle a SFD project over a SAS one.

Because of the IFS strut set-up on the R50, there are two "viable" options for those wanting to lift beyond the standard 2" coil set-up. I use the term "viable" loosely because either requires time and money, not to mention due diligence. These options are: SFD (affordable, practical and relatively easy) and SAS (can be expensive and more difficult but still pretty practical). I'd recommend the former if your mechanical skills are limited (like mine ) but some members have tackled the SAS option and have been successful.
Beyond these, you'll be hard-pressed to make anything else work. Coilovers would be an option but that would require some serious fabrication/engineering skills and a ton of money. There was a coilover thread floating around here a couple years back but I don't think anything come of it that could be useful as a real-world application. A European company called ProFlex designed the IFS suspension for the Dakar Rally R50 Terrano, which was extremely capable off-road but obviously very expensive (IIRC, I think each side ran around $2000USD at the time).
Based on what you're hoping to achieve, a SAS project would be ideal. It will allow for ample suspension travel up front and serious offroad capability. But if you're like me, the SFD option takes the cake because of its relative simplicity and cost.
In any event, best of luck!

Can't wait to see these. I'd be interested in uppers and lowers for the Q.

You are talking about BORLA here, they have a reputation to hold up.
No different than dropping $3-400 at a local muffler shop on a custom set-up; reputation's on the line just the same.
Horrible weekend...
