What was your inspiration/reasoning for doing the new intake? It looks great!

I wonder if a 255/85r16 would fit
I’ve been wondering this too. Haven’t seen or heard of anyone really running that size on this forum but IMO it would be great fit for the r50

Yes sir, they fit perfectly fine without any spacers. The fact that they are only 9.5 wide means they can clear the struts easily, and I don’t have any rubbing because I removed the mud flaps and trimmed a little bit of the plastic in the fender wells. In the future I’ll probably upgrade to a set of 33”s that are full width. I love these tires on dirt and rock but they don’t float over snow as well as a wider set would. In deep powder I’ve noticed they can get kind of lost. I also prefer a “stanced” look, so wider would be nice
That’s awesome it’s possible to run a version of 32’s on stock wheels though! Thanks for the info.

Hey man! Been following this build transformation into the beast it is today! I was curious to know if you fit your 235/85/16 tires without wheel spacers? Never saw you mention using them.

There are soooo many resources on this topic. Look around this forum and you will find countless posts with the answers you’re looking for.
here’s a great video explaining some basics:

Whaaat your 235/85/16 fit with no wheel spacers? Everyone I've seen with them said they needed at least an inch on their front wheels

A true 31"will not fit, the panhard rod will rub during normal driving so 30.5" is max.
Reviving a dead thread here, I thought 31" tires was stock on some early gen R50? I also thought I've heard of people shoving a 235/85/16 in there with a bit of trimming of their hitch bar. Anyone else have any experience fitting plus size tires in there?

Cool product, but I don't think it fits r50s. Looks like it was designed for European Terrano II.
Ah good catch, I guess it was just the first gen Terrano that was on the same platform.

Hey all,
My buddy just bought one of these plates for his 4runner and loves it. Worth checking out if you're in the market.

They're marketed for the Terrano, international version of the R50.
They also seem to make a bumper!

Anyone else have any experience with these?

Echoing what XPLORx4 said: there are no issues here.
We put front and rear ARBs in @Rockit's QX4 the other month, so he can back drivability claims. Having them is inconsequential in Auto mode because they are disengaged. Though if you're also planning to get a front ARB, just know that ARB introduced issues that the previous locker did not have (I've installed both). The newer style requires pulling the pinion gear from the case, grinding it down 1-2mm on the head, and modifying the oil seal ring on the RH stub shaft, which requires a press to remove and reinstall in a new position a few mm's off. Lousy design on ARB's part.
Good to know! So far only planning on the rear so hopefully should be a straight forward install when the time comes.

Some great info here thanks guys! Sounds like this will hopefully be my next major upgrade. Time to start saving...

Hey all, couldn't find any info pertaining to running a rear locker with the auto transfer case.
Does anybody have any experience running a rear ARB locker with the auto t case? I'm hoping it would work fine as long as you only activated it while in the 4H or 4L modes.
I'd love to just throw a Lokka on but that would definitely cause some issues with the auto mode while driving in slippery conditions on-road (a feature I use a lot in the winter here).
Are there any other drivetrain incompatibilities I might be missing? My engine bay badge says I have HG43 gearing, and it's an LSD.
Any insight would be appreciated!

Does anybody have any more insight on getting a correct reading from this style dipstick? I’ve always struggled with this. Glad to hear I’m not alone!
When changing the fluid via the drain plug (not a full flush with filter etc) how much have you guys been replacing? I’ve been getting about 3L out so that’s what I’ve put back in. But my dipstick consistently reads as overfilled. Experimented with slightly less but even then it stays high.

Here’s a screenshot of my invoice with some 80/20 part numbers. Just get rid of the R in front of each number.

dezm Awesome, it looks like I can get these in Australia too (which is where I'm from)! Did you happen to have any pictures of your crossbar setup? I'd be keen to see how you bolted them into the nuts in the rails.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk ProYep, just design some cross bars using 80/20 that you can bolt directly into those nuts in the rails.
It's what I did and its 10x better than anything you'll buy/OEM bars and will cost you like $200 max

I've always had this noise, never really thought much about it. Transfer case is still working fine...

Not to be rude but this is the most posted about topic on this forum. If you use the search you’ll find a plethora of options. I suggest looking into the land rover springs. 9447 springs specifically.

I'm now down to doing things that I WANT to do to my R50 instead of things that I NEED. Last week I ordered LED lights and the plugs don't fit. They claim to be for a replacement for the 9003 headlight bulb but aren't. Has anyone else here succesfully installed LED headlights (and foglights)? What brand did you go with? How do you like them?
I bought some Sealight H4 9003 headlights and they’ve been working great. Huge improvement over the Philips X-treme vision bulbs I had before.

Indestructible is preferred! Never want to have a tire fall apart on the trail. I did take a look at the Duratracs but I think I'd take the KO2's at roughly the same price. Seems everyone rides those on here.
Yeah for sure, I would say for good reason too. Can’t really seem to go wrong with them. I’d only consider the Duratracs if you wanted a lighter rating as I think they have different offerings in the same size.

Since these are such common vehicles around BC most mechanics are very familiar with them. That being said I’ve often gone to Arts Auto on Clark in Vancouver and had good experiences.
