What did you do for the o-ring that goes on the input shaft?

Beyond an electrical issue I cant imagine what it might be. So does it cut off every time you use the heater or only some of the time, and has it ever cut off without the heater as part of the equation (even once)?

Jeez I thought the opposite! I immediately went out and checked mine. I am at the very top of the indicator piece. Maybe the tiniest bit on to the braided wire.. I dont notice anything odd so im gonna leave it alone.

When I was a teenager I had a 2WD Frontier with a LSD and it would go anywhere I took it. Certain situations, like very steep hills and mud, it’d get stuck but it mostly handled anything moderate and was a lot of fun.If you get a locker in the back, you’ll see that thing surprise everybody you wheel with. i’ve been with 2wd tacoma’s that have a stock e-locker and they amaze me every time.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I was EXTREMELY bored, to the point where I was thinking about things I shouldn’t be, so I had to take action!
There was a powerful storm band moving thru Georgia on its way to me that was dropping tornadoes, so I thought, “I know what I’ll do... I’ll hit the trail in the middle of this storm”.
And so I timed the storms arrival to hit me when I was getting started on the trail, and it was a major success!
It was worse than I imagined and the trail had been closed for some time and was overgrown.
I did not record my getting on to the trail and the storm because it was literally too crazy for me to do anything but survive, and not get crushed by a falling tree!
Last thing, I used to like getting high, and I spent a lot of my life doing just that.. but I have to say, I could NOT have done this while inebriated in any way... and to me, that’s pretty freakin cool!

I think I had room for about a quart in the sump so I took a half empty thing of ATF and mixed the in the seafoam then poured it in.

Yeah I did have to make some mounts for it and about 10-15% of the radiator is unshrouded and that did suck because all I had was some kind of special stainless steel that was hard to work but if you had some scrap aluminum it wouldn’t be bad at all.
I literally took the whole fan and shroud right off the Volvo and slapped it on mine. This is the guide I followed:

True that! I was 15 and I took my parent’s 1985 Volvo 240 out for a drive in what was supposed to only be in our neighborhood but I actually took it across town. I was coasting in neutral at about 50mph when I accidentally threw it in reverse instead of drive and it instantly started spinning around in circles right in the middle of the road.
Luckily it stopped perfectly on the side of the road as if I had pulled off on purpose. I made it home before the rear end died but it never left the driveway under its own power again.

I had a RWD Frontier when I was a teenager and it seemed to go anywhere and very rarely ever got stuck.
I never use 4WD on fire roads. Honestly the only time I use 4WD is when I’m going places my vehicle has no businesses being.
I will say that without lower gearing you can run into overheating issues in the summer. My first engine didn’t have a blown HG and I did see temps go above normal when going slow on trails in the summer. A quick neutral engine rev would shoot the temp back down.

Yeah manual hubs are actually of no benefit off-road. The benefit of having them is that they dramatically increase the life of CVs if you’re (suspension) lifted since the CVs won’t be spinning unless you engage the hubs manually.
The “auto” hubs aren’t automatic, they’re just always engaged.
And like Pathydude said, you save gas because the rotating mass and rolling resistance of the CVs, front differential, front propeller shaft, and front drive components in the transfer case are all disconnected from the front wheels.

It’s a fluid coupler that slips less and less as it heats up. I think the service manual tells you the slip rate, or I might be confusing something I saw on google from a while ago when I was having overheating issues.
Anyway you can sort of test it’s health by getting a feel for the difference in resistance to turning the blades by hand when the engine is cold and warmed up. Kind of a subjective test but a diagnosis for a seized clutch is easier to determine than decreasing efficiency. And a seized clutch will roar like a tractor trailer even after the engine is warmed up.

I cant think of anything outside of the thermostat. Even if the fan clutch was always fully engaged the operating temp should still be normal.

From my limited experience, partially worn bushings and end links dont produce large effects while driving. Clunking noises and general difficulty driving the thing in a straight line are what I see as things are wearing out. Large noticeable movements going down the road, for me, have always been caused by a large broken or completely worn out (or gone altogether) bushing / end link. So if your experiencing large noticeable problems then look for something to be completely worn out or like Mr Reverse said broken.
Ive also found that large noticeable problems tend to be bad enough that when you lift the vehicle off the ground you can usually move the offending problem area with your body weight. That might be a little different having just replaced all the bushings back there so everything will be quite stiff but I'd still get it off the ground and grab a hold of that sway part and see if you can move it about.

I should probably read the whole OP before I reply.. I see you said it happens in 4lo and you have a different tcase than me.
When the thud appears, are you moving forward or sitting still? Has it happened when sitting still?
How often is it reappearing? Like every 5 minutes or more like every 5 seconds?
Do you notice it happening more often while traveling thru turns?

Oh I know what you’re talking about. The center lock disengages if you sit for a long enough period of time. It will do the same thing if you shut the engine off and it doesn’t do it at all in 4lo.

The Quest alternator makes 110A and I think only needs minor mounting modifications.
I had a 1500wrms system not long ago and the stock alternator handled it just fine. The battery is actually the most important thing unless your gonna be playing at competitions for hours on end.

I got some time to myself today and decided to visit Echo Lake again. I haven’t been back down there since we found that stolen Jeep, fearing serious criminals frequented the area. About 300 yards into the trail I was greeted by a flipped truck that had burned to the ground!
When I finally made it down to the lake there was a group of teenagers smoking some very good smelling weed which I passed on. They had screwed a lazyboy way up in a tree and one of them was sitting in it.
I asked about a homeless man I had met down there previously and they knew him. They told me the reason he is homeless is because his son died on a dirtbike and that they went to school with him. Now there is a congregation of homeless people that have makeshift shelters set up in the woods all along the trail.
I didn’t take pictures of anything while I was down there because I felt like I shouldn’t. If I go back with some of my friends then I’ll take some pics of the shelters and that lazyboy.
On the way out I barely nudged a tree and it handed my bumper it’s arse. This is after I beat on it with a hammer:

Same exact thing happened to me except that I broke the old one. I ended up getting the closest match I could find from the hardware store. eeesh! I wonder from time to time if the o-ring I used is the same material/quality and whether its going to fail prematurely..
