  1. i pulled my bracket out and dont plan on reinstalling it b/c my sub and amp are mounted there...if your interested make an offer cuze right now its just layin around back at he house its outta an 87 pathy
  2. ^^i used a 5 ft bar and a BFH to break it loose...about 5 good whacks and then i held a cam with 1 hand and it came off fairly quickly with the ratchet after it was broken loose
  3. if doing a clutch change in an apmt complex parking lot...to drop the tranny by opening both front doors....have 2 buddies (or 1 buddy and have the other end tied around a fairly strong tree or something heavy enough to not move) hold a tow strap thru the doors and run it around the tranny going down around the removed shifter/boot) and have some1 under the truck slowly kick, pull do whatever to get it off of the studs and slowly lower it on a floor jack if available...this was very effective i belive it was a 92 pathy and i saw the torsion bars layin on the ground so i thought he was doing a lift and he said he was doin the clutch so i asked if i could help/watch cuze i have the 87 and wanted to see how to do a clutch since i havent ever done 1 and it was a good experience he was very thankful cuze it was his sons truck and he drove 4 hrs to fix it for him and his son wasnt the best mechanically inclined fellow nor did he like being dirty...but after some pizza and getting the 1st hand experience im ready to do mine when she finally wears out
  4. thats good to hear cuze they were 667 without any replacement/roadhazard...i got my dunlops for 555 with the replacement certificates which i couldnt pass up and so far i like the way they handle on road in the rain and the little bit of offroading i've done...im a little worried about the sidewalls since i've heard lots of "issues" with these but i've got the replacement warranty so im not too worried about it...
  5. i saw a huge argument in sears over a torque wrench that some1 broke and they said it wasnt under their lifetime warranty b/c if they are used wrong they break and the guy was a lil PO'd and told them he was never buying craftsman again...so i guess dont break torque wrenches... u can also heat bolts with a torch and quench them (pour cold water over them) and that will usually break them free due to the quick expansion and shrinking of the bolt usually breaking the bolt free... u can also make ure rachet...wrench or nething work like an impact wrench...if u place it on the bolt and hit it with a hammer it'll break bolts free...i wish i had a pic of my socket wrench to show the handle...its a cheapo but it hasnt broken with a 6- hommade breaker bar and lots of action from the BFH if u r on the trail and dont havea torque wrench handy but need approx foot lbs...have a 12 in bar put it over ure wrench and by using ure body weight u can get approx torques...ie if u weigh 200 lbs and need 100 ft lbs put half of ure weight onto the end of the bar...
  6. wheelmanLS1 we might have to get together sometime and go for a ride... as soon as i finish getting the video edited and compressed i'll post it...worked on it a little this mornin B4 class and so far i've gotten it down from 1.2 gigs to 64MB but now i've gotta see what adding music to it is gonna do yea shes def a 1st gen...rolled off the production line in 7/86...
  7. usually get between 320 and 340 on roughly 18 gals of gas....but like i said i did a buncha burnouts B4 getting the new tires the other day and noticed that i usually have about 150-175 at half a tank and i barely had 100 then 3 days later i put 31s moving up from 235's and plus i went wheeling a couple times...so a mpg reading this time is prob way off...so i need to refill and check it all over again and hopefully it'll still be up around 17....but i do have a cracked manifold and a rich cond cuze i puff some black smoke every now and then along with the black ring on the tailpipe...so im pleased with the milage i've been getting i juts hope it hasnt gone to crap
  8. theres a fuse for it...but i think its connected with some other stuff too...im thinking maybe the clock or possibly the cab lights...i know i blew it somehow and something else quit working but u could prob follow it from the fuse box to the bell... just a thought
  9. well my 87 vg30 was getting about 17-18 city and 20-22 highway until this past week...and hopefully i burned .25 a tank doin burnouts cuze if not i've got serious problems cuze i've gone about 120 miles on 10 gallons of gas and going up 2 ins in tire size shouldnt drop my milage that much (i hope) cuze 12 mpg would just suck
  10. just leave the key in...put a toggle switch (or something like the prolock that u can take with u out of the truck) under the dash to the ign lead so when u get out u kill the switch or pull the chip and then u dont have to worry about some1 stealing it...maybe they'd try to break in to steal it but i doubt it if the doors r locked
  11. thanks for the input fella's...since the SC deal didnt work out for SR design i might take into consideration building my own air compressor system...as long as i could make it have many uses (ie tire fill ups, rafts etc etc as well as coming up with a possible air bag system to place under the truck to lift it up if i were to get stuck...) hmm adding to list of possible design proposals....
  12. thats what im fixin to get into since they moved the new MEGR building about a mile from campus and wont offer any form of transportation besides a bike or pat&charley :furious: how do u like that 96 i've gotta 87 and looking to get a newer 1 to be a daily driver and let mine become a full-time play toy
  13. yea thats the way i feel esp if its inoperable for me as it sits...
  14. haha well on a diff forum some1 suggested using the compressor as an air compressor which might be possible and usable esp around the coast if u have to let the air down... i'd much rather put it to use then have it sitting in there doing nothing...
  15. preciate it...love that truck...hasnt ever really given me any problems and got 244k on her...shes actually pretty dirty...i havent washed her in bout a month cuze i dont ever have time between school and workin 2 jobs but tryin to make a uwharri (sp?) run in a couple weeks to give the tires a true test cuze the stuff around here used to be hard with my bald radials...but mostly everything yest was cake in 2wd amazing what some tires will do for u.... the death of the old bald tires (had to make sure they were all used up)
  16. not the steering wheel lock correct? ie move the steering wheel one way or another if the wheel is locked and it should loosen things up...i have the inverse issue on my 87 i cant get the key in sometimes but its getting better since i put some liquid wrench in it
  17. my compressor is done as well as most of hte other components due to my dad backing into my truck after an argument between him and my mom about 4 years ago and he knocked the living piss outta my truck resulting in the cond and evap being messed up along with bumper brill headlights and corner lights... thanks for the input guys i'll prob just leave it there now
  18. i've got an 87 vg30 which i recharged the ac about 3 years ago and it lasted for 2 months due to the leaks thru out the system and i personally dont mind not having AC and would like to remove it bc i dont plan on selling my truck but with this i had a couple of questions 1. would i need to leave place a belt tensioner pully where the compressor used to be so that the crank has all the appropriate forces still applied (cuze i was thinking that removing the belt and brackets and compressor would put the forces from the alternator and pwr steering out of balance and give me more vibration and possibly some form of engine damage... 2. would i have to get a new harmonic balancer to deal with issues in ? 1 3. is this a dumb idea...i just want to lighten my truck up just a little bit and maybe pick up the 1 or 2 hp by removing the ac
