Well, the headers only sat in a box for 6 months or so before I finally got them installed yesterday on Friday, Feb. 20th, 2004.
They are Pace Setter Headers and originally I planned to have them installed and have a new exhaust pipe installed from the glass pack back.
I took the Pathfinder to a local shop called, "30-Minute Mufflers" at about 1pm to get started.
They first had to remove all of the existing exhaust.
In the process, they broke two bolts off in the engine. :) Glad it was not me... They fixed it.
Next, he had the difficult job of fitting the new headers in place and bolting them down. Man, these guys earn their money...
Now they had to install the cross over pipe (yes, I had to have it because we have to pass inspections and the exhaust had to be routed through the catalytic converter.
Now, we talked about the tail pipes. I wanted it split in two as it came out of the rear, but they told me that the glass pack was too long to have room to do that. We talked about alternatives and I decided to go back to a Flowmaster muffler, only this one has one inlet and TWO outlets. The muffler is shorter than the glass pack and it also splits the exhaust in two for the pipe to exit the rear. (Good bye old friend glass pack)
Then, the fabricated new pipes from the muffler to the back of the rig. First the right side, then the left, and then they added chrome ends to both sides. Nice...
Then they double teamed the emissions connections to finish everything off and I finally left the shop at about 6:30pm. That was 5 1/2 hours of work and I watched every moment. Long day. They need it for about an hour on Monday to correct a problem with the connection to the catalytic converter that is causing a small leak. All in all, it looks great. They sound awesome too.
What is next? The new Calmini Steering components are being installed on Tuesday. Wife might leave me on Wednesday (joking). She does not understand why I am spending so much on this 1994 rig. She tells me that I will never get it back on resell. I said, who is planning to resell??? She will deal with it gracefully. :)
