    New to me Pathfinder LE. It's low mileage in above average condition. Bought it cause of the condition, and the meticulous servicing, along with documentation. That and it's a stick shift, which was a must for me. I now have a bit of a lift under it. BDS springs and shocks, with KYB struts up front. I ended up with 1 3/4" lift up front, and 1 1/2" of lift in the rear. Not much, but better then stock. I'm also running Toyo Open Country AT's 30" x 9.5". It will be my family hauler, and also used for camping, fishing, and hunting. So it will need to be capable off road, as well as on.

  1. I'd like to have more then one rear wheel putting power to the ground. I have yet to take it offroading, but I do plan for some. Kind of why I got a 4x4. The Pathfinder is replacing a 79 Power Wagon I have. It's got LSD front and rear, and climbs like a goat when needed. So my expectations for a 4x4 may be a bit more then average. It will also be my family hauler, so lockers would be a bit extreme.
  2. So I've got a 97 Pathfinder LE, with the blacked out trim, and no LSD in the rear. From my reading it should have one, but it does not. Anyway, I plan on visiting the local srapyard to see if they have one, or if they can locate one on the "Parts Sattelite". What should I expect to pay? I only need the centre cection to the best of my knowledge. If I have to I'll buy it complete, drum to drum. Or is there another option? I'm sure through the Stealership, it will cost a fortune. Although I may have to go there for rebuilding parts if I get a used one. Which will add to the cost of buying used. Does the aftermarket offer anything? Also for the front diff. How close is it to the rear? Is it possible to use parts from a rear diff to make the front LSD? It sure would be nice to have a true 4wd.
  3. Should the muffler be placed where the resonator was, with a longer tailpipe? Or where the original muffler is with a shorter tailpipe? I would think that just eliminating the resonator would make it a lot louder. Which isn't what I'm after. I just want a deeper tone. My current thought is decent resonatoer, with the flowmaster 70 series.
  4. I've got a 97 Pathfinder that I just did a lift on. Although my exhaust is still ok, the years have taken their toll, and life expectancy is limited. Is their a cat back system available for these unuts? How loud are they with one less muffler, as mine has two? I'd like a bit deeper tone, but not too loud, as it will be a family hauler. Any suggestions? I have a Flowmaster 70 series exhaust on a Dodge truck I have. It's a nice deep mellow sound. Any one put one or two on a Pathfinder before?
  5. Well, the parts sat in my garage for a while before I finally got the time to tackle the lift. It took me a couple of days, but I did a lot of extra's in the process. And yeah, those springs are a bit tough to squeeze into the struts. Luckily I have a simple strut compressor, and some coilspring compressors that helped get the last bit of squeeze. The most difficult part of the project. Everything that was new was painted flat black. I'm not into silver struts and white shocks. So although it's lifted, everything underneath looks sort of stock. I'll need to get an alignment, as I wasn't sure where to set the camber bolts that came with the kit. At this point the ride is great. Better then stock comfort wise. The cd player skips less. The only drawback at this point is it leans more going around corners. My concern now is the tires I have waiting to be installed. Toyo 30"x9.5". Not a lot bigger, but I'm afraid they will rub the struts. I just got the stock 15" chrome wheels with black plastic centre caps. I know for sure I'll never be able to run chains on the front unless I get rims with a different offset. I'd rather not.
  6. Just a newbie here with some concerns about a lift I'm installing. On a 97 Pathfinder. I'll be using KYB struts, BDS Shocks, and BDS springs. I'll also be installing Warn locking hubs. I'm told by the shop that it should lift it 2 inches, possibly a bit more. My concerns are to do with the brake lines, and abs wiring. Will they be long enough? Also, are there any other parts I should replace while I'm there? I'll be doing the front brakes at the same time, as well as front ball joints. I had thought of replacing the bushings at the top of the struts. I just want to do it right.
  7. I'm new to the SUV world, and after much research, chose to find myself a Pathfinder. Although I would have considered a 4 Runner if they didn't cost a whole lot more. I knew I had to have one with a standard transmission. Luckily I found a nice one, not to far from home. It's a 97 Pathfinder LE with 114,000 kms on it. It was dealer serviced with all the receipts, and is in very good condition for it's age. The front struts are leaking, so I'll probably take the opportunity and put a lift kit under it, a couple inches would be great, and some bigger rubber. Since it's my alternative to a minivan, it's purpose will be a family hauler, with a few camping/fishing trips mixed in. I have a few other vehicles as well, so most of it's time will probably be spent in the garage. Sharing space with some other project vehicles. I'm a Mopar nut, but mostly when it comes to the old iron. The new stuff is too problematic for my liking. I look foreward to spending some time on this site. I'll probably have lots of questions to ask. I hope some of you folks can help me out.
