Starts, won't crank, no spark, stuck in theft mode?
MattFransonPA replied to MattFransonPA's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
It was the camshaft sensor. Had a new distributor installed and now it runs. I had read elsewhere online that no spark and no fuel injector pulse means either the anti-theft system or the distributor. -

Ok, so if that's the case how do I fix it? -

I'm not sure. I don't have it here to test it and I can't remember if it still blinked when I tried starting it before. If it does or doesn't, what does it mean? -
97 Pathfinder. Wouldn't turn over/crank, so had it towed to the garage and the mechanic took the distributor off and said it's not getting spark and the fuel injectors aren't firing. His scanner couldn't read either. He said he talked to another mechanic and that it's stuck in theft mode. I read online about a Nissan Altima that had this problem and it was suggested that the key can be turned to 'on' and then disconnect the battery for 10 minutes, then reconnect and cycle key to off and on and off and on and it should start. That didn't work. My key doesn't have a chip, it's a regular key. I bought this used in 2007 and this is the first time this has happened. He was going to disconnect the battery overnight and reconnect and see if that helped but I haven't heard yet if that worked. If not I'll have to have it towed to a Nissan dealer which is 45 minutes away.

Thanks but I checked summit before and the only dual inlet they have is also dual outlet for $92 and I need dual inlet/single outlet.
-
$119 plus s/h is the cheapest I've found on ebay. I looked at alot of mufflers that were cheaper but none had dual inlet. I hate messing with exhaust and would rather put a cherry bomb on it but not sure with the dual pipes.

It's the muffler. Anyone know a good online parts place?
-
Is the resonator also a catalytic converter? I looked under mine and it appears to have a central muffler and resonator at the end.
-
Thanks, what is a MAF?

A couple months ago I started hearing a rattling/vibration sound coming from the muffler on my '97 Pathy at 5-10 mph. 1 of the hangers on the rear resonator (?) came off and I put it back on but the sound still remains. As of the last 2 months when I go up hills I have to put the pedal to the floor and the muffler or resonator (not sure which or both) makes a loud sound (as if I had no muffler at all) and I thought maybe the baffles broke off inside and are clogging the muffler/resonator thus preventing the exhaust to leave and not allowing proper acceleration. I don't really know. I didn't know the rear muffler was a resonator until recently. I thought it was a catalytic converter Any tips? Thanks.

Sometimes the accelerator pedal sticks and I have to really push hard [or tap it hard knowing it will jerk forward] and then the engine revs and the pathy jerks forward and it is ok after that. Anyone know if some PB blaster will solve this or is it something worse?

Odor When Ac Runs In 97 Pathy
MattFransonPA replied to MattFransonPA's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
Thanks all. I'll try the Lysol spray. -
I just bought my 97 in April and lately when I run the ac there is a bad mildew-like smell. Has anyone else had this problem? I googled this problem and read on a VW forum that if you run the heat full blast with the windows down for 10 minutes that this will burn out the mildew or whatever is causing the odor. Anyone else have any tips?

I'd like to see pics of these patch jobs if you have them.
