  1. my 5 cents check your top and buttom rad hoses, 1 should be a little cooler then the other as the radiator cools it, if you get extreme temp differences or as you say cold spots then there is a interruption in the water flow, you can try a simply trick to see if its your cooling system or your engine that is the issue, when the temp goes up turn your heater & fan to full if the temp comes down most likely your cooling system and the only way to fix it is systematically changing/replacing parts including thermostat check/replacing radiator honing out or new replacement if it doesn't go down it possibly your head or faulty gauge my sister was having similar issue we didn't find what was causing her over heating until it was blowing big white clouds out of her exhaust and she almost hydro locked the engine 2G & a family friend later the car drives better then before, that was my 5 cents hope you get it sorted Mike
  2. its upgraded by using the stock timer power run it to a relay to open the circuit and run a wire from battery to the relay then to the glow plug wolla you got 12V instat 10.2V. I did test the glow plugs and it took 4-5 seconds to fully glow, when I did my fuel filter it wasn't completely dry but not as much as I would have thought since with my research I found that in the primer pump/fuel filter should be a check velve to hold the presure (the fuel) ready for nxt start. which was correct for my surf that I had were I changed the fuel filter and diesel came poring out. if I'm mistaken and the check velve is operating normal the primer pump should be firm, if its not then the check velve might be gone and is causing my bad start, only need 2-3 cracks before it starts or a long one, if its a air leak would diesel be leaking over night, as I haven't noticed fuel leak or smell, thanks mike
  3. hi I am still new to diesels but just wondering what some more experience people think back story I have been having this starting problem where its taking a few extra cranks to get it going after its been sitting for a few hour, I used to think that it might be the glow plugs but I have upgraded the system with a straight 12V from the battery run passed a relay with stock timer then the other day I been parked on a hill with the nose pointing in to the sky when I finished my 12 hour shift and started it, it idled very rough and stalled after a few seconds, it took a few cranks and she started right up. been running fine since besides the old hard start, in my research I red about fuel filter changes that got me thinking back to my fuel filter change I remembered it was strange that the filter was empty. as when I changed the filter on the surf I had it poured out with fuel and I had to hold the fuel line up so not to drain the tank. didn't think anything off it as it starts most of the time. now to the to option that I have come up with in my research 1) air leak (will check with clear fuel line) 2) fuel drains back in to the tank (replace primer pump or in-line fuel check velvet) any other ideas or thing I can check its a 91 terrano TD27T 240K on the clock,
  4. I've got a 91 terrano 2.7L turbo diesel, not sure which oils it has, as I haven't changed them yet only had it about 4 month or so and I'm getting 2800 at 65
  5. hi just doing some more maintenance on my 91 Terrano TD27T with 240K on the clock. just doing some more research to do minor fuel adjustment - if I can find them, clean banjo filter - if I can get to it, and find issue with cold hard to start - not slow to crank with the cold start I checked the glow plugs they are fine, still haven't found out if 10 volts is normal for the glow plug circuit, I did read about a sensor that's supposted to be in the intake that the engine uses to adjust the glow plug timer and pump setting. the interesting thing is once its started it will start again no problem even if only running for a couple seconds, when I glow it 3-4 times it starts no problem but have to wait a few seconds between glow cycles other wise it doesn't glow again. how easy is it to adjust the fueling a little bit. and the cold and hot idle cold idle at 700 hot idle at 1100 I'm sure they should be the other way around also have a tube hanging of the intake near the filter were I think there should be a vacuum hose but I can't find anything hanging lose anything else I should check,
  6. thanks for the link, that is a good idea it might help with my problem, it would be good if someone could confirm if there should only be 10.5v coming from the relay. if anyone has a diagram for the glow plug circuit so I can trace back to make sure the glow plugs are at fault cause so far its breathy much just a hunch. thanks Michael
  7. Hi just looking for a little bit info, I am still new to diesel and for a few weeks now its been starting rough, takes a long or sometimes 2 cranks before it starts with a little bit off sputter and white smoke, but then be fine for the rest of the day or night until the engine is cold again. I checked the glow plugs but they check out, tested them in the engine then took them out and they all glow red after about 3-5 sec, they do look black and crusted, I also checked the glow plug relay which is providing about 10.5v. to the glow plugs the relay is active for about 5 secs before the dash light turns off is there any other issue that could cause the hard start problem, I know low compression can cause hard start but I would imagine that would be on every start not only the first start of the day, can anyone confirm if the relay is only suppose to provide about 10.5v, every thing I Red and watched on the topic showed the relay providing about 12v or same as battery voltage, on mine that should be 12.67v. there is a whole in the exhaust I am picking up a replacement part on Thur, but I somehow don't think that would be related. if someone can show me which wires are for what on the relay I could temp by pass the relay and put it on a switch to see if a longer glow will fix the issue, if that fixes the issue would that mean the glow plugs are going bad? thanks Michael
  8. Took a bit but finally had a little bit time at work and took a photo. Still needs a bit of work Exhaust Springs Torchen bars leveled Fix speedo needles Proper flares Fuel system check and tuning only problem idles around 1100 rpm. Left hand cv replaced Some interior parts need replacing And maybe a paint job. Sent from my GT-I9507 using Tapatalk
  9. Well I found my problem and it's not the diff the inner left hand cv joint has pulled apart being a open diff all the drive goes to that cv nothing to do put to pull it apart and fixing it. Sent from my GT-I9507 using Tapatalk
  10. Ok. If it's just mechanical it makes it alot easier. So the drive shaft diff and cv's are always connected the disconnection happens at the transfer case and hubs? I'll check the hubs and cv's and diff. Is this system the same for the pathfinders and maybe the navara of the same year Sent from my GT-I9507 using Tapatalk
  11. I heard this a procedure a few times. What I would like to know is how the 4wd system works on the terrano. Thew surf had a pin that would via a electric motor lock the front drive shaft and then via vacuum operations lock the front right cv to the diff and the hubs. The left one was always connected. I am still hoping that this terrano as a similar setup and all it is, is a vacuum issue. But I can't trouble shot the issue until someone is nice enough to tell me how this system works. At least I don't have to check it all as the transfer case is working. Sent from my GT-I9507 using Tapatalk
  12. I had similar issue with my surf all I had to do was reconnect a vacuum hose. I can't seem to find much info on terrano 4wd system. Can't trouble shot if I don't know how it works Sent from my GT-I9507 using Tapatalk
  13. Got a 91 terrano turbo diesel. Just trued it in sand and got booged with 4x4 low and high. Got home had someone in the 4by and had them drive forward slowly with 4x4 engaged and noticed only the front drive shaft turning but not the cv's can anyone tell me how the terrano's engage the cv's and hubs. Is it by vacuum or electric. Any pointers would be appreciated Mike Sent from my GT-I9507 using Tapatalk
  14. So is there something missing that should be connected Sent from my GT-I9507 using Tapatalk
  15. I followed the pipe back and it goes to a black cylinder another pipe goes in to the fuel tank. Sent from my GT-I9507 using Tapatalk
