  1. If you're wondering if a dead speaker will cut out all of your door speakers then the answer is yes. I had this same issue with my 04 SE a few years ago. I thought it was the wiring but played with the multi-meter as well. After seeing a speaker showing dead, I decided to change them all. Sure enough, all sound was back and I haven't had a problem since.
  2. AkP-That's actually a good point to bring up. I'm in AK right now but I'll be heading back to SoCal in a year. I think I worded things a little funny there too. The cat is still there but the muffler is gone and the connecting bracket as well. So I was thinking the same thing you said. Just having someone weld a straight pipe from the cat all the way out. Would that be ok in CA? I see you're in Simi. I'll be just north of you in Santa Clarita when I first head back. Not sure where we'll end up. I'll have to contact you about finding trails down there.
  3. Hey everyone. Hopin you can help me out here. So I noticed my exhaust just didn't sound right the other day. Got underneath and realized the whole muffler, from right before the bracket after the cat converter, was hanging off. The whole braket has rusted off. I was already planning on ordering a new muffler but now that the bracket has fallen off, it would be pretty pointless. So until I have money for a whole new system, what do you guys reccomend? I was thinking of somehow making it just a straight pipe to the back. Any suggestions or even examples of what other have done would be awesome. Thanks as always!
  4. You should be fine. I was towing my 2006 18ft Bowrider with mine no problem. If I tow anything again I'll be doing the Transmission Cooler as well. But with the drive you're describing I see no problems.
  5. UPDATE: If anyone is still there I think I've figured out a little more and want to see what you have to say on this. I got under (again) and took off the panel. There was a small amount of fluid like usual. As I said in the first post, the fluid seemed to be around this wire bundle that was located where I started. I kept looking at this thinking it seemed like the fluid was actually coming from the bundle. I traced the wires back and the covering opened up again just above the transfer case. Sure enough it looked to be wet there as well. This area is close to the air breather that I think albino was talking about. If you look in the FSM at page TF-17 you can see right around where I'm speaking about. The wire that is getting fluid on it may be connected to the 4WD switch...it was a little hard to tell in the tight space. The air breather has a hose on it and is pointing the other direction so I don't know if that's it...always a possibility but just doesn't seem like it. The FSM also speaks of an oil gutter up there...this made me wonder. Could there be ATF coming out around here because of this gutter that is working its way down the line? It doesn't seem to be a serious leak...but it's there. What do you all think of additives like LUCAS to help with stopping leaks? In case this is a gasket or something. I can get to all of this eventually. I'm just hoping it's not too serious before the trip...
  6. Sorry everyone...thought I had notifications for when replies were posted but I guess not.. I'm almost certain that it's ATF...I drained and refilled the fluid last weekend and the fluid i'm finding now is still the exact color as the ATF. My power steering fluid needs to be changed so I know it's not that cause the color is a little off. Otherwise, I don't find that color fluid anywhere. IanH, I'll have to check that. It's all in the center of the truck on the passenger side. You can see the exact area of concentration. It doesn't spread from the middle area. I'll check this as well. Everything is worth checking to make sure our Golden Girl "Betty" keeps on truckin.. Thanks again everyone. If I can find anything more I'll be sure to share the find and knowledge.
  7. I know it's a long shot but have you checked to see if the throttle body is dirty? My 04 was running great and then one day this same type of problem was happening. Car would start but very weak and to the point where I had to give it gas just like you're explaining. The RPMs would drop all the way down to 100 if the car didn't die completely. I checked countless things and was ready to head to the dealer...guy at parts store said a woman with a Maxima came in with the same problem. Handed me some throttle body cleaner...went home and sprayed...ran great again. Not sure if that'll help you but it's always worth a shot especially since it's only a few bucks.
  8. XPLOR i think you're onto something and I have a feeling it's one of the hard lines on that side. There is no fuel smell and as TownC said, it has that distinct color. After i got home i checked the Automatic Transmission fluid and it's a perfect match for the color that's leaking. It's the same color. All my fluids are checking the right level. My fear now is that I've unblocked this crack or whatever that has been blocked for a while now by the buildup of dirt and grease...
  9. After reading posts on fluids I was honestly about to PM you but figured I'd post this incase it happens to someone else. I checked Power Steering right away from the color as well and at cold temps it was good. I forgot to check the Transmission Fluid while checking other things. I do have 4WD but haven't used it in a while. Could it still be leaking if its the transfer case? I'll have to check that as well when I get home.
  10. I tried searching topics but I'm really not sure what this is so I can't be sure if I found the solution. I'm still new to working on my Pathy so I'm not quite sure what fluid this is. If this has been talked about before please just post the link and I'll head there...thanks! So anyways...until I can start spending money on the more desirable mods I'm doing the free little things here and there to get to the look I want. This includes removing the side steps from the old girl. When I got to the Passenger side I noticed what at first looked like a muddy build up on the center connection point only to realize that it was a combo of dirt and some fluid from the vehicle...and this was a nasty build up. I cleaned things up and removed the panel right there to clean the wire bundle and the panel as well. Had to go for a little drive last night and checked first thing this morning to find some new fluid. This concerns me for several reason...fluid leaks are never good, it seems to be right on this wire bundle of connections, and I'm trying to prep the Pathy for the LOOONNNG drive ahead of us! My pics aren't loading up for some reason so I'll post some links that will hopefully take you to them. Please let me know what you think...thanks everyone! http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii58/JARisser/Leak3.jpg http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii58/JARisser/Leak2.jpg http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii58/JARisser/Leak4.jpg http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii58/JARisser/Leak.jpg http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii58/JARisser/Leak1.jpg
  11. Quite happy! Can't play anything too loud with the two toddlers in the back anyways...at least I'm guessing that's why my daughter plugs her ears. Sounds good to me though...time to start saving for that lift! Thanks again for quick tips and help guys!
  12. Been horrible weather out here and am just now getting back to this. Still not finding an amp where it should be... But no worries that it's not there...the problem ended up being the most basic one. Bad speakers. I guess the original speakers in the back have just lived there lives. And I'm told that the front speakers shut down automatically to keep themselves from blowing. So not being very "electrical friendly" I saw speakers that LOOKED good. A friend taught me how to check them with a fluke meter and low and behold...nothing. So I changed out the back ones and suddenly the front ones all work. I'm sure I'll change the front soon as well to get a better sound all around. Now not being very electrical friendly I have another question...with no amp being in sight, do you guys recommend I put one in there? Even a smaller one to help out with things...just a thought?
  13. Thanks guys! Had a busy day with the wife and kids so couldn't get around to it. I'll double check on the amp tomorrow. I'm honestly tempted on just checking to make sure the speakers are still good and if so i'll just run new wire through the whole thing. I'll let you know how that turns out....
  14. I used crimps when installing and have redone all of them with no progress. I tried pulling apart the whole cargo area and couldn't find an amp. Do you think I should go with installing all new wire to the speakers? The HU getting power and still sending out a signal (per the tweeters) makes me think it's either wiring or the speakers themselves. Also, if anyone knows of another location that an amp might be I'll check that as well. But it's not where the manual says or the other side.(checked to be sure)
  15. Hey everyone! New guy here and I have to say I love the site so far...it's helped with a lot so hopefully you all can help me with this... I tried searching all the stereo posts I could find but have yet to find an answer...It started a couple months ago. One at a time each speaker came and went intermittently before going silent. It started on the rear drivers side then to the rear passenger side. Next thing I knew all but the tweets were completely silent. The stereo still has power and I do get that sound from the tweeters but nothing else. After searching (the whole internet) all I seem to come across is the solution for the bose system and the amp located in the back. I have a base 2004 SE with an aftermarket stereo. My fear is that when I installed the stereo, I didn't/still don't know much about the electrical side of things and may have ruined the wiring or speakers with the aftermarket piece not having an amp. Any help on finding the solution would be great! We not only have a cross country trip to SoCal coming up but after that it's onward and upward to Alaska! A stereo would be a great thing to have back during the trip...thanks in advance for any help!
