  1. Honestly, I think the stock Y-Pipe would choke off any gains to be had with the headers. If you do headers then you'd benefit from an appropriately sized Y-Pipe. I'm also interested in fitting the Z32 headers (with the D21 exhaust flange welded in). What I like about these headers is that they are about one half the cost of other WD21/D21 header options. And if you have a 2WD V6 Hardbody like I do, then you've got to get creative.
  2. Pretty cool. Is there any performance benefit above and beyond a perfectly good working OEM distributor? Aside from timing the ignition further. I ask this because I have the MPFI with ECCS. It pulls the timing back if you try to advance it manually. At least that's been my experience.
  3. The quickest/easiest way to go VG34, in my opinion is custom pistons from EP Racing. Any bore size along with 9.5:1 compression ratio you like using stock sized pin bores. For $885.00. With these pistons you can use the stock rods and save some money. For me, it's way over my budget. Plus, the shortblock I'm looking at is already assembled with OEM pistons (8.9:1 C/R - Close enough) This is the newest forged piston out on the market that EP Racing has designed in conjunction with CP Pistons. This is a true 9.5:1 piston. Once compression is calculated this piston puts the engine at 9.2:1 compression PERFECT for boosted applications. Available in any bore size needed. PRICE – $885+SHIPPING Specs: Full Forged 2618 Aluminum Twin oil feed with radial groove for pin bore HD wrist pins Full floating pin bore design Lateral gas ports Steel Nitride top ring Napier Second Oil ring standard tension Flat top design Valve reliefs are spec’d off at 1mm oversized EPR logo for quality assurance Light weight Radial side wall for added strength
  4. I've read up on the VG34 quite a bit. Cool motor. I'd love to do it, but I've got a budget to stick to. As far as the OEM computer, there's a guy over @ Z31P with a Hardbody Truck making 216HP with a VG33E - 11:5 compression, 270/.465 cam, and a pair of killer ported heads. Other than that, I'm aware of two S12 guys making 171HP - 172HP with VG30's. Track only cars.
  5. OK, I remember reading something about that build over @ Z31P. It started from a intake spacer review (which I plan on doing).
  6. 10:1? Is that the VG34 setup? Or was that custom pistons. I know the 3.0 has flat tops, I don't know of any 3.3 flat tops other than custom ordered.
  7. Cool, I'll PM him some questions about that.
  8. As of yet, no. I've emailed Mr. 510 about this, haven't gotten a reply back. It looks like the Thorley solution has the most potential. It looks like the headers themselves will fit, It's just a matter of modifying the Y-Pipe or building a new one all together. BTW, I've seen all your vids. on Youtube. Pretty cool. I'll check them out again. Thanks.
  9. I've got another lead on a brand new VG33E short block assembly with oil pump for about $700.00. Unfortunately, it has the larger crank snout. My question here is: Has any one used Mr. 510's crank snout adapter with success? Thus being able to re-install the alternator, power steering pump, and A/C compressor with out any modifications.
  10. For the most part, there are 3 ways to make power in the VG series motor: More displacement, Cams, Exhaust (headers). Of course there is more, but those are the most effective. Thanks for taking interest in this build. An extra set of eyes always helps.
  11. Just found a VG33E block for $200.00, 17 miles away. Does $200.00 sound about right?
  12. Good deal about the LSD. I'll give Mr. Alkorahil a shout and see what he thinks. Back to the motor deal. Some thing that I recently remembered was how the Frontier/Exterra guys were complaining about was how down on power their motors were. A couple even took theirs to the dyno and came up with 128HP and another came up with 132HP to the rear wheels (stock everything). That's what a VG30E puts out on average. So that got me thinking about how the extra 10% displacement is offset with a slight loss in compression ratio. It's still a tough call, I was hoping to get through this build at about $1,500.00+. I'll check the Pick-N-Pulls again to see if anyone has a VG33E block cheap.
  13. Mine spins the opposite yet all my vehicle records say that I have an LSD. Well, I guess they lied.
