  1. Wheeled the snot out of this buggy for 2 years, now getting bored so time to put the restlessness to bed and do some wrenching. Thing burns oil and smokes like a choochoo train so engine is getting rebuild, seriously thinking about new camshafts with more duration. Went to the junkyard today and scored a newewr ecu with pretty much all needed wirinmg and plugs. Going back tomorrow for the intake manifold and related parts, to convert this engine from tbi to port injection. Going to be ecstatic if it's running strong by late August for a wheelin trip to New Mexico and southern Colorado Here's the old gurl in it's current rendition dabuttes34 by aartjestaartje, on Flickr
  2. Well took my lil put put out to UT and CO for a fun week of wheelin, took it like a champ. One question though, anybody offhand know where the vent on the auto trans is located? Looks like it needs a vent hoese on it to keep the red in. When it stands on it's butt or nose with the engine off it starts puking a bit of trans fluid, cannot find any leaks at the pan, input seals or output seal. Seems to only do it at extreme angles with the engine off. Other than that this thing rocks. Pics of said trip. 3. Been trying to figure out the shift point thing from what I got from wirting diagrams it activates a pressure solenoid. The button on the shifter is not the best place for it. I am using it as tyhe power button, still need to hook up the tcc switch. I am shifting it manually with a rad design shifter, which I really like. Found a tcm for it, mounted it, but haven't wired it into the trans yet. Probably will at some time when I am bored and make it stwitchable betwqeen manual and automatic. Want to swap the transfercase gears in two weeks when I have time off. Right now boring the front D60 unit bearings so I can swap in 35 spline stubs. Got since then 40" trepador sticky shoes for it. One of the next project will be a hood, some skins and finally rear steer. This thing/ mutt has kept me entertained for the last 2.5 years and more entertainment to come. It sports Nissan, Jeep, Ford, IHC and Toyota parts in it.
  4. This is my almost finished Nissan Pathfinder mutt scrappy by aartjestaartje, on Flickr Here my 2 questions, number 1 what is the best place to order a 4:1 gear ratio kit for the transfercase? Secondly what is the intended use of the button on the stock auto shifter? give it a somewhat harder shift patter or? Love this lil thing motor is spunky enough for my use holds oil pressure when standing on it's nose or tail. Will do over 50 mph across the desert floor with 40" Treps, so a happy camper with it. Just need a bit deeper gearing for crawling and long steep downhills. Any help will be greatly appreciated

Got 2 voltage limiters for the cluster, all the pigtails for thee cluster. A transmission control module with pig tails, so happy camper. Now on to the steel yard for some tubing to make a belly pan frame. First voltage limiter didn't work, second one succes, Scrappy got working gauges and idiot lights. Another item of the list. Fixing the transmission controller is going to be more fun. Biggest question so far is how bad it needs the speed sensor? If truly needed, I'll have to either run a speedo cable to the cluster, or strip a speed sensor out of a junk yard cluster, make a short cable and drive it of the transmission. Oh well one worry at the time. After this wiring bit I want to go do some welding so belly skid plate is next. By the way in the last action shot the one tire is at least five and a half feet of the ground
  9. Probably hit a pick a part and ecologyy on monday, need to get some working gauges on thing and build a dash for it
  10. Get the ground clamp as close as possible to what you are weldinñg and you will be fine
  11. Frame, trans, engine and tank is all stock Nissan, the rest is more or less my creation.Still need to figure out the thread size and pitch of the sensors
  12. I have had in my possesion a 89 Nissan Pathfinder buggy thing for the last 2 years. After many hours of tinkering, it running driving and flexing. What remains is fabricating a dash with workiing gauges and making under armor for the belly, trans and oil pan and some other odds and ends. One of the first things I want to tackle is the gauges. I got a stock cluster but it's missing the voltage limiter/ regulator, so it's basically nothing but a paper weight. Are those things available in the aftermarket? Doesn't seems so. Which gets me to the next question what size and thread type are the coolant temp and oilpressure sensor? Would seem both have metric fine thread? Any way here's a few pics of it flexing WIN_20140913_163715 by aartjestaartje, on Flickr WIN_20140913_163706 by aartjestaartje, on Flickr WIN_20140913_163646 by aartjestaartje, on Flickr WIN_20140913_163153 by aartjestaartje, on Flickr WIN_20140913_163214 by aartjestaartje, on Flickr
  13. It shifts without the tcm, all gears work without the tcm as of now, just wondering if it would help trans life to activate line press solenoid. This setup work well with the zjeep AW$ trans also several friends use this shifter without a tcm in their vehicles
  14. My buggy didn't come with the TCM, got it to shift with one of these http://www.radesignsproducts.com/Baja.php Question is this, is it detrimental to trans life to deal with the over run clutch solenoid and the line press solenoid? This thing will mostly be used for serious rock crawling. Will probably hardly ever see OD in high range. Fastest it will go, is full throttle up some sand hills. Buggy has complete 1989 Pathfinder engine and auto trans and about 60% of the original frame, everything else is, well something else
  15. Thanks guys, will head back to the junkyard tomorrow and see if I can snare me one. I have a rail shifter but from looking at the wiring diagrams, it needs a bit more than that to make it work properly. Kinda partial to Jeeps so this one might end up sporting a Jeep grille also lol These are my other 4x4 put put Jeeps
