  1. you got to be kidding me! So the large bolt on the right is the only one holding it down? There are two 10mm ones on the left that I thought had to come out. I really didn't muscle the distributor at all, just thought the other two bolts where holding it down.
  2. dang dude, I am a noob but i also did search just not for "Head cover gasket" + that post says nothing about the removal of distributor all it says is "after cleaning all and reorder the distro " - thanks for the link though.
  3. Has anyone replaced the driver side valve cover gasket in the VG30E? Mine is a 91 and I had issues with the distributor housing blocking one of the valve cover bolts. I could not get the distributor nuts off, even tried crows foot wrench... I took the valve cover off the passenger side and replaced (lol) the gasket. See first picture of why that is funny. I took of intake manifold to get to the driver side but the distributor is blocking one of the bolts! How do I get that last bolt off the valve cover, seems impossible? Valve Cover Gasket
  4. of course there would be a special tool just for that one nut! I really didn't plan on jacking with the distributor, just trying to change a gasket..lol Pathy wins this round. At least I know its 10 mm now
  5. I suppose it would be the distributor housing that is blocking the valve cover bolt, not enough room for a socket to fit over top of the nut. Might be buying a short open ended wrench or off-set or both
  6. I figured out why tightening the screws wasn't working... I took the valve cover off the passenger side and replaced (lol) the gasket. See first picture of why that is funny. I took of intake manifold to get to the driver side but the distributor rotor is blocking one of the bolts! How do I get that last bolt off the valve cover? It seemed like there was one bolt on the right and one bolt on the left holding the distributor rotor on, The one on the right came right out, but the one on the left seems impossible to get to>? help! Valve Cover Gaskets
  7. sooo boomboxes, ham radio and knife collection---sounds like you have your bases covered for the end of the world!

  8. o-hell ya to both! I just moved here and don't really know anyone that would (or could!) help me if I get into a pickle. I was hiking in the Lake Apopka Restoration Area just a few weeks ago.
  9. yep I actually cleaned all around and tighten all the bolts, then re-checked a week later and found oil comming from mainly the back and right side of the cover.
  10. So I have traced one of the oil leaks to the driver side back valve cover gasket. I am going to replace both valve cover gaskets. While I am in there I figure I should also do the intake manifold gaskets and the PCV valve, am I missing anything else that should be done with this while I am in there?
  11. How many Ft./lbs are we talking about to get that bolt off? I am considering either buying a nice air wrench/compressor or just renting one for the job.
  12. But I just finished putting that on last weekend...ha! Thought about taking it off, black weather strip is like 30 bucks. Do the door jams actually need the strip>?
  13. I'm very sure I could get the seal changed, its the tranny in the way of the seal that makes me pray its something else (i have never taken one out before)
  14. LMFAO! I am really eager to get the t-belt done, but need the time, patience, and space to do it....no way am I paying 5 bills for the work. Just moved to FL and staying with fam in condo so space is a big issue for now.
  15. Just wanted to introduce myself to the board. I have been a wall flower ever since buying my new lil pathfinder. I bought her less then a month ago so still trying to get my "to do list" together. I just moved to FL and needed a second car, so went looking at the 2k price point or less. She caught my eye and I traded $1490 cash for her. Is she in peeeerrfect condition? Ha, no she's an abused 1991 XE with 190k miles. Got the oil/trans/differential changed, new trans filter and gasket (old one was shredded!) and she is already shifting smoother. Right now she is sad and weeping a small amount of oil from somewhere. Going to try and find out where(ruled out the shelf that catches oil during oil change, good work board). Will trouble shoot oil pan/gasket, valve cover gasket, then I pray not the RMS! If I get the weeping to stop will tackle the timing belt/waterpump/thermostat/front seals/etc. Then on to the cooler job, plugs/distributor/rotor! For now, little Pathy is getting the job done! Check her out: My New 91 Pathy!
