  1. Yeah, the "plate" does give you a little more room if you remove it. There are a couple of mounting brackets at the back of the engine block, and the bolts for those go through the plate. Seems like maybe one or two bolts on each side, then the plate will slide down and out, with the brackets still in place. Also, I removed the torsion bars on mine (93) just to give me a little more room. Don't know if I had to or not, but there's enough other crap in the way, I'll get rid of whatever I can to make the job easier. Good luck
  2. I think this will work, thanks so much.
  3. Hope one of you can help me. I'm re-building the trans in my 1993, and am needing a more detailed schematic of the valve body assembly. This trans has been disassemble before, and I have found another item that was put back together incorrectly, so I don't want to assume that anything in the valve body is correct. Would really like a detailed schematic to use and start from scratch. I bought a manual which gives pretty good detail on everything but the valve body. Any help would be great. Thanks !!
  4. My 93 has heated seats and both work!!! Unfortunately that is about the only thing that does at this point, I bought it as a project. It has leather, so does that make it an LE?
  5. Femur, If I were you, I would install a cooler immediately. Also, drop the pan and change the fluid and filter. You may see an improvement, or you may not. Clearly this is the place to start. It is common knowledge that the internal cooler becomes clogged. Now in addition to it's normal work, your pump must work that much harder to push fluid through a clogged cooler(and pull it through an old filter). More work = more heat = more work = more heat and on and on. Please try this first and let us all know if you notice any difference at all.
  6. Femur, So during the shift from third into overdrive, does the engine rev-up like something is slipping for a second or two before overdrive engages, or does it just run at a high rpm, trying to shift but taking a long time to do it? Have you noticed any kind of slippage in any gear? How about when you changed fluid/filer in the past, was there any kind of debris in the pan?
  7. I'm a new pathy owner, and am interested in doing a lift at some point. And I really like the way yours looks. What else would I need, in addition to what your getting rid of, to complete the lift? I understand rad hoses and transcase shifter would have to be reworked, but what other body mount pieces would I need or need to fabricate? Thanks
  8. I welded a cracked exhaust manifold on a Dodge work van that I had a couple of years ago. I think, depending on where the crack is, you can expect a good outcome. I'm not real experienced at welding cast, but my grandfather was, so I used some of his pointers. I packed the manifold in sand, (yes you read that right) even inside. The sand is supposed to slow the heating and cooling of the piece during and after welding. Grind the crack evenly, and don't be afraid to penetrate well when welding. And of course a special rod is needed, which I believe is a nickel rod, but I'm not sure about that anymore. When done welding, allow the piece to cool 2-3 hours before removing it from the sand. I'm not sure this is the correct process, but it's how I saw it done growing up, and it worked for me. Good luck
  9. Hi, can anyone tell me if the pathfinder ever came with manual locking hubs? Thanks.
  10. Can somebody tell me what the power switch switch actually does on my 93 pathfinder. I've just bought this to rebuild, and am learning all about pathfinders from scratch. One thing I have discovered, 143,000 miles and not a single grease zerk installed on the front end!!! Can you believe it, never seen a grease gun. Thanks in advance.
  11. Thanks for the response. Sure appreciate everyone's input.
  12. Left or right is always determined from sitting in the drivers seat. Hope all goes well for you.
  13. Okay, is there a way to make an automatic hub manual? For instance, can an automatic hub be "locked in" all the time. Even if it were somehow welded solid, would it still be as effective in each direction. Also, can any damage be done by running manual hubs, locked in, with the transfer case in 2wd? Other than the lower fuel economy, can this cause problems to the front end?
  14. Am planning on the cooler upgrade, but tell me more about the shift kit if you can. Does this trans in stock condition need a shift kit, or are we just talking about upgraded seals. Either way, I'm curious about the benefits. Also, where is it available. In fact, do you guys have a good source for all Nissan parts that I don't know about. And thanks, the manual is on it's way.
  15. Well I got the transmission out of my 93 today. Had only first gear (automatic) when I bought it, so I will see what I can discover. Been a few years since I've had and autotrans apart, but I'm sure it will all come back to me. Any sage words of wisdom from those more experienced? Last minute tidbits of advice? Chance to learn from your mistakes?
