  1. The other ting is that the manual mentions a limp-home mode where if something goes wrong the vehicle goes into limp-home mode it also says that the light would give an eight second warning that this mode is engaged. It could be that my 16 short blinks are an actually 8 second warning although it actually blinks for 10 secs. But the manual says that this would be turned off if you shut the ignition for 3 seconds but I get this warning all the time. But it dose make one think if that has something to do with why the talk converter lock works again after you shut down the ignition. Its like the talk converter lock will lock up every time the ignition has been shut down but it will only last for about 20 seconds. The manual says if the talk converter drops out after 30 second look to this wire number (25) at the AT controller ... mine had no volatge but I dont know where it is supposed to be getting the voltage from..
  2. Update to problem. I must have tried that self diagnostic procedure a hundred times. No matter what I do even when I make mistakes it will just give me a two second blink at the start and then 16 short blinks. I have a manual but it has the diagnostic lights on the ECM and mine are on the dash. I also have located all wires going into and out of the AC brain. If I feed 12 volts straight to the talk lock solenoid it works fine. According to the manual this problem of talk lock dropping out after 30 seconds would occur if wire number 25 ( the engine speed wire ) was incorrect. The manual says it should be 9/12 volt with ignition . Mine has no voltage at all. So I am trying to locate where the voltage for this wire would originate from. I have tried a rev sensor that is located at the timing cover but this checks out to be producing an increasing voltage with engine revs just like the manual says. I am now suspecting that the taco and the engine speed for the AT brain may work off something else as well and that that sensor under the timing cover is just a engine speed sensor for the EGR system. Any ideas where the wire (25) that is supposed to be feeding 12 volt to the AT controller is supposed to be getting this voltage from . The manual showers it connected to the ECM but the ECM must be getting its information from somewhere..
  3. Ok Guys I have a new problem. Terrano WD21 2.7 turbo diesel automatic. ( Wonderful little 4x4 when its going ) Problem has always been the talk converter lock dropping out whenever it wants. I have found which wire from the Automatic transmission Controller leads to the lock-up solenoid ,and cut it. I have fed 12 volt straight to the solenoid while driving and this locks her up well. So I have eliminated the solenoid as the problem. At first I thought it was a temperature issue because it always locks up first thing for about 20 seconds . However with further investigation I have discovered that it is not temperature related because if I stop the vehicle moving and start again it will still not lock-up because you have had your 20 seconds so to speak. However if you stop and turn the ignition off and on again it will then lock up for another 20 or so seconds regardless of temperature. Every time you turn the ignition off and on it will give you another 20 seconds of lock up. The manual indicates check the speed sender circuit, so I located the wire from its brain ( ATC ) and cut it off then it would not give me second just crawled along in first. I have been battling this problem now for about 3 years. I am just about to give it a full lobotomy. When I first turn the ignition on I get the 2 second light and then 16 short blinks. Any ideas Guys. HINT = taco doesn’t work.. Nasa.
  4. Hi all have problem my tacho does not work at all where could the problem be, Plus another dam problem, the error blinks we get 16 short blinks what does that mean can anyone help, with this. I would be very grateful. nasa.
  5. Terrano WD21 1990 Td 2.7 Auto. I have a little electrical puzzle on my hands. The alternator light is telling me lies. The alternator light comes on with ignition and goes out when the engine is started From what I have read the alternator light is fed power from the battery and it earths out through the alternator once the ignition is on, thus illuminating the lamp. Once the alternator produces current it feeds current back to the earth side of the lamp thus canceling out the difference in potential thus the lamp goes out. This sounds like a foolproof system. It will always make the lamp go out unless the alternator is not working . Sounds good Hey. Well I have the alternator totally disconnected and still the lamp goes out when the engine is started.. Why is it so.??????
  6. Thank you ahrdbody. I have found that the vehicle has a shift lock so that the shift stick cant be moved with the engine stopped . To prevent child from bumping out of lock position while car is parked I would presume. There is an override button that you have to press to move the gear shift with the engine stopped for working on things. I have been using this override button even with the engine running. Because it stopped working. So that will be why. The burnt out thing is to lock the gearshift unless the engine is running. Thank you for that verification.
  7. Thanks guys for the info up to date. I tried the wipers and the wiper timer works well. If I set on three seconds three seconds they are and if I set on 8 or 13 seconds they work accordingly. So it appears the thing has nothing to do with the wiper control. I have the best5 pic I can get of the part number. I think it reads number 2854C83G00 Could this be correct. Do you think this part may be stopping my alternator from charging.
  8. Terrano Rm3 2.7 TD Auto Has been slipping in gear for a couple of years. Its like I sometimes read of the FAKE gear that these machines seem to go into on the highway. Like an extra overdrive, Mine has been dropping out of this drive for about two years and the problem is just getting more and more common. I have had the trans checked twice by auto trans place and they say nothing wrong there. I have also replaced the electrical component on the injector pump. Now it is at the stage that is only goes into full gear when really cold and as soon as it warms up it will drop out for the rest of the trip. Its like you have all gears including overdrive but the rev counter just goes up and the engine revs a little more than usual. have been looking for a solution to this for a long time. Then my batteries started going flat overnight. I took off the battery cables while engine was running and had good bright headlights so I assume the alternator was working. Then I made that devastating mistake . I actually drove it with battery cables disconnected. Immediately everything seemed haywire and smoke started coming out of the dash. I shutdown and then had no power. I discovered 4 blown fuses and replaced them and the battery cables and everything seemed Ok again. But now it is like my alternator inset working because if I remove the batteries now the engine will stop immediately. So I have disconnected the alternator and this stopped draining my batteries from overnight. I found where the smoke came from it was a little box under the steering column which burnt out as the pics will show. I took this box out and everything works except the alternator is not charging now and the lights-on warning and reverse beeper dose not work. I don't know if this could cause the alternator to stop charging but after this went up in smoke no more is it charging. I have been charging the battery's at night and driving on them during the day. Everything seems to work OK LOL I would look to replacing this thing first if I knew what to call it . I can get a new alternator on EBay delivered from England for $230 AUD But it may be that this burnt out thing is stopping the alternator from charging I don't know. I know a mate that had a Cherokee auto and he had no end of trouble with the transmission and it turned out to be an electrical sensor by the battery. Has any body got any ideas ? .... Or even a name for the burnt out thing.??? What is it.??????? What dose it do.????? Why are most things working OK without it .???
  9. Hi Guys, I think I have been in this forum a few years ago but have lost password and changed email. I have a couple of questions about the above vehicle. I will ask in the appropriate place.
