  1. Going to state the obvious here because I didn't see it mentioned, have you changed the fuel filter? Fuel pressure will be good on both sides of a clogged filter if the engine is not running. Too bad you bought a new distributor, there is no spark advance on those, advance is cotrolled by the computer.
  2. I cut a piece of roof flashing and put it over the starter before I pull the filter. The oil runs over the shield and into the pan, adds about 30 seconds to an oil change. Before I owned the Pathy I owned two S10 Blazers, both with factory remote mounted filters, they both failed. Don't add two lines and a rubber seal to your lube system if you don't have to. KISS (keep it simple stupid).

    Cruse inop

I'm with pacnw. When I first got my Pathy the cruise control didn't work at all and I noticed a scraping noise when I turned the steering wheel. Sure enough the contacts under the wheel were completly worn out and not making any contact. Easy thing to check.
  4. Nice pics K9. Does anyone sell a kit of all the little coolant hoses for this engine. If one goes to all the trouble of yanking the plenum seems logical you should change all those potential leakers.
  5. I ended up doing the same. My screws were phillips and buried under an inch of dried coke and coffee( I could smell it after I let it soak for a few hours). After I ripped it out I found some unused plastic grommets right next to the one I trashed. I cleaned up the console , moved the grommets and reassembled. I also took advantage of the opening to vacume that "no mans land" between the console and seat.
  6. Converting a vehicle from standard to auto or vice versa is not worth it. Automatics really shine off road, far more control of power to the wheels than slipping a clutch (whats that smell?). The added plus is you can keep your hand on your sweeties' thigh while driving away from a stop light. The standard tranny will always give you better fuel mileage, period. :02:
  7. I would tend to agree with oldreliable. I know I would never attempt it on any stretch of interstate. The main concerns are braking and wheel base. If any of the idiots and a-holes that drive that stretch of interstate decide to change lanes and slam on the brakes you will have few options. Your lack of wheel base will hurt you if you try any sudden turns with trailer attached, and the brakes will be put to the maximum test should you decide to stand on them. If you have lots of experience towing heavy loads with light vehicles, add a tranny cooler, use a dolly and go for it, otherwise save your Pathy for more pleasurable tasks and wait for a good local deal to emerge.
  8. Let me just say you folks are just awesome. New to the Pathfinder and this forum, but have been turning wrenches for 20+ years. I have the same "open door light" issue, now I know where to look to fix it. Thanks. Now that I am hooked on this forum I promise to pass along anything that I think will help.
