Catalytic converter wont pass emmission test

Recommended Posts

Live in new york and have a catalytic converter that is causing an engine light to come on making it unable to pass a new york state emmission test. Let me know if anyone has any info on either getting new cats or installing cheapers one that will work. Any cites or link will work too.

I had good luck with the Pacesetter cats from Rock Auto.  I was getting the P0420/P0430 codes but the new cats fixed the problem and have been running great for about 5,000 miles.  Parts themselves were pretty cheap although the bolts aren't very accessible so I had to pay a shop to swap them in.  Another option is junkyard cats but then there might be an issue with longevity

The Junk Yards I "peruse" in VA and OH will NOT sell used Cat's.

I had this same issue.  I pulled the cat and soaked it in purple power and water from Advance Auto overnight.  It's been 3 days and no code/CEL.
