Steering Wheel Options

Recommended Posts

My steering wheel has lost its coating and is now sticky and grimy feeling when the humidity is high. I am holding off on trying to modify the idle air control solenoid and am making the steering wheel my next project.

I am trying to inquire of anyone who has knowledge about the R50 steering wheel. I would love to find a mint steering wheel from the junk yard but I’ve never seen one (that I’ve noticed— I wasn’t looking so it would’ve had to really jump out at me).

Are there a range of Nissan steering wheels that the R50 will accept?

Has anyone had any success trying to restore their steering wheel? New acrylic paint and clear coat??

Ive upgraded both my 96 Pathy and 97 Q to woodgrains. The black one came from a G20 and the gray came from my Q. I will post pics for you asap.

Heres the black leather wrapped g20 steering wheel. Its in great condition just needs to be cleaned with leather cleaner and conditioned. Its been in storage for over a year. Along with the other steeringwheels. The gray leather wrapped does have a few blemishes, but putting s leather treatment on it would do wonders. The last steering wheel came from my 98 Pathy XE. Its just plain jane, but in excellent shape. Steering wheel is not sticky anywhere. My favorite is the black leather wrapped from the g20. As far as what steering wheels will work the main thing is the little bitty hole next to the shaft hole must lineup or it will not work. I've got another leather-wrapped gray one I don't remember what I got it out of but it wouldn't work because that little bitty hole didn't line up right, you have the steering shaft then you have that little bitty hole beside it to the right. I believe the little hole is for the clock spring. Also when installing the steering wheel you have to make sure you line up the 3 holes that form a rectangle on the end of the steering wheel shaft line up with the 3 on the column. Those 3 holes are for your blinkers. The last pic shows what im talking about. 7cd95e383da94d46c2662ee4e029bcff.jpg2cb7e5beb0f9d4ea5fb9d10bb2b35b35.jpgfd522c0af96b65e45a3ba6a56395691c.jpg6a5082a5f2142f918cd710a57886423e.jpg5797e35d66c7176929f1a549e420d13c.jpgf59dbe458a43464467453e23c4489721.jpg531dfe92f142b0374d758e2ba329527d.jpgaec51cd3fc958abbd7dafb857af795c3.jpg7a0b4226efa1068a0de3421752cf87e1.jpgb800936e1fdc05fbb2128a155a5debf0.jpg9d985250b85ea5ad08f1fdca64a9321c.jpg0ad4da36a658acdcc8eef78c36924493.jpg529b2fe1ce52ffdab5cdea287f3a5a28.jpg9b51bd186e3439555166f1b4be900ff4.jpgf64075274ba998904bae3e54f194f01e.jpgb1d29113d1704a145d03e0d179304340.jpgec74c96288f31b7756dcd37907729846.jpg

My Q you came with the gray leather wrapped steering wheel just like yours at first I didn't think the black would look all that good but let me tell you brother it looks really good with the gray plus the vents are black part of the shift column or I should say console is black it matches up nicely.

You can have anyone you want. Just pay for shipping. I dont know how or if there's any regulations on shipping the airbag or not. Of course once it's in the box and wrapped up no one would know that it was in there anyway but at the same time I wouldn't want the thing to go off so I don't know how we would go about doing that.

Wow thanks man! You’re so close by I’ll probably just make a trip up and say hello in person! We will have to figure out when a good time for us both will be. I’m stuck working weekends for a while until this new machine is installed but it might be nice to wait a little while until the leaves start to turn colors! Thanks again man :]

No problem pal. There not going anywhere. Any time is good for me. I live in a suburb of Knoxville (Lenoir City). 20miles from the University of Tennessee. The Great Smoky Mountains are beautiful in the fall with all the foliage. Looking forward to it. We can even do the install if you want to do so. Personally I would go with the Black Leather wrapped wheel as opposed to the gray. Peace, love and understanding brother. GO VOLS!

Could always grab a Nissan OEM option Momo steering wheel. They're equipped with airbags too.

I worked a deal out with @ferrariowner123 for his unit and its a pretty slick upgrade, but you will need to relocate cruise control and stereo functions to the dashboard or setup a wheel mounted system

Have any pics of this? Pretty interested.
