bonehead72
HI guys, I just purchased a 2001 Pathfinder SE. It has been sitting for like 8 months. The owner said the ECM was bad on it by a mechanic but as i was looking through papers in the suv i found a receipt where the ECM had been repaired. Anyways i went and purchased a new battery and some fresh gas. Tried to start vehicle and it started but immediately shut off, especially a quick shut off if i pressed the gas pedal. ** I jumped ahead of myself** Before any of this i checked the fuses under the hood and the ECCS2 10A fuse was blown. I noticed that the owner had a box of 10A in the vehicle. So i replace the fuse and try and start it after the battery and gas. Like i said it started and immediately shut off and it seemed like when i pressed the gas pedal it would shut off even faster. Started the engine over and over but same result. It sounded as if it wasnt getting enough air or something being it would shut off even faster if i pressed the gas pedal. I found a list in the vehicle where the mechanic had made notes. It sounds as if he replaced the idle control valve, TPS, mass air flow sensor, ignition coil 3, throttle position sensor, and at bottom of his notes it says "blowing 10A fuses". Im only speculating these parts have been replaced. Or maybe checked these parts, im not sure. The receipt for the ECM repair was done by a separate mechanic and was repaired before the last mechanic said the ECM is bad. I hope you guys can point me in the right direction and give me some sort of direction to take. Thank you in advance for any information This is the 3.5L Edited February 19, 2019 by bonehead72
Manik
One of the issues could be a shorted idle air control valve. Unplug it, replace the fuse, try and start it and see if it blows. Are there any stored codes in the ecm? I'd start at the IAC valve and go from there. Sent from my LG-H700 using Tapatalk
bonehead72
Actually the fuse did not blow even through the 15 times i started it. Basically it would start and run for maybe 3-4 seconds and then shut-off. If i applied throttle it would immediately bog down. I will check to see if there are any stored codes. What exactly is the ECCS2?
adamzan
It is known on the VQ pathfinders when the IAC fails it can take out the ECU. I've seen it a few times and a couple members here have had it happen.
bonehead72
Sorry guys, been busy. I took the ECM out and there it was, a fried capacitor. Yes the ECM has been repaired before because the company had placed their warranty sticker over the seam of the ECM. So i have ordered a used one that comes with the key and module. Also ordered a new IAC valve
