Alright time for some catch up, still on the road and visited CO, AZ, and NM after Utah. Notable places, Mesa Verde and Monument Valley 70a30f8217bdf30812c3572be35f1586.jpgd4c5d79ef2543c95891aefaff1c90e52.jpg8a16e52435fdce09504ac803c9dd4c83.jpg8c54a10ec83efbc1cb9a10f2849bb9a7.jpg

So after a fun week and a half on the road and about 3500 miles, the Pathy did get some problems, P0011 on like the first 160 miles in. I brought my scan tool along on the trip and just cleared it and it came on at inconsistent times such as 40 miles or 150 miles. So after getting back, I changed the oil and found a long piece of something in the filter, didn't seem like rtv as it didnt have the same feeling. I took the pan off as well and found lots of carbon chunks in the pan, not a pretty sight but probably from the drive of getting really hot and non stop driving cleaning the motor out. After that I took the VVT solenoids out and cleaned them and changed the diff fluids as well. Took it for a test drive and felt like I had power again and ran smoother. That was a couple days ago, now today the CEL came back on for the P0011 and a P0152, so the fun doesnt stop. I will be replacing the O2 sensors for the P0152 and getting new solenoids for the VVT, checking the oil pressure to make sure the galley gasket underneath the timing cover didnt blow and go from there.20d3a5b28f72e25867c6d060a08779fc.jpg8f3bdb5d46da9bb20fdebc5c36666218.jpg442852f2e7f96770bbf6272bd17d6edd.jpg343226fa4f7d0e5bf901d9894d44d551.jpg185bb4b83960ad47e1dbfd1c6788bf05.jpg

Haven't been here for awhile I'd say. Yes the pathy still runs and after cleaning the solenoids and having the code come up once again and clearing it one more time it hasn't came on for 300 miles so I think I'm in the good for the P0011 code. Now the only code its throwing is the P0152 and P0051 for the upstream O2 sensor on the passenger side. So I just bought Hitachi VVT solenoids because why not and hopefully dont have to deal with the code again and bought some Denso O2 sensors for both upstreams as I already replaced the 2 downstreams earlier. Sucky part for today is that I dont have access to my garage so I'm out in the street replacing the parts lol. It sucks forgetting a tool in the garage because you have to do the walk of shame and find out you forgot something else and gotta do it again.230e794d31ff19db7bf0a1f203adbed8.jpg6be6844cc75a57f5e5a3657bb017d04f.jpg13dca6ca1ea4ece2f7adc91df1cc7ee9.jpg844cdaea76f8f550e65276858090ee27.jpg

Got everything all buttoned up and now runs smoothly. No more check engine light and a happy driver. But man ran into some issues first being the access to the passenger side upstream O2 sensor. I grabbed some extensions and swivels and broke it loose and managed to cram my arm in there and loosen it by hand. Installation was the reverse way. Next being as I was crying on the inside getting at the O2 sensor I noticed that my fan was being held on by a thread and like a revolution from blowing up lol. So I Amazon primed a new fan that's coming in 2 days. Lastly the passenger side VVT solenoid didnt come with a gasket so I made a emergency run to the dealership and snagged the last one in stock.faa85886908758a24f49716b1d7cbcfe.jpg1d6f22e15a04800ebe18186398e24644.jpg823d9c23334262216c9c192600a59f5a.jpg87582a46127bd2234f147d8fae49efaa.jpg

I had to do the exact same thing with some swivels and tape to change my passenger side front o2 sensor
Yeah it's a pain to get at

Replaced the fan, hardest part was removing the shroud surprisingly. The old fan had lots of cracks in it I'm glad I noticed it when doing the O2 sensors because that would be a different story if it came apart a607f4aadde252cce05305fea84fea63.jpgdbb37c63aba80a9975dbef157ed65952.jpg97553c669744c07218adc034e3abd662.jpg4ab015fa30e47545e933f37195eca02c.jpgdc755998e63756e5a814ace10a4ff2d6.jpg

I had the same experience with my fan. I was under the truck doing something else random, and just happened to look up at the fan and was like, oh crap that things about to fall apart! It was all cracking just like yours.

Yeah if I wasnt replacing the O2 sensors I would have never looked at my fan, i think it's a good idea to inspect the fan once in a while

Wow. Yeah, good thing you caught it before it let go. Looks pretty well reinforced but I wouldn't have wanted to reach over it while it was running!
Yeah after replacing it I threw the old one in the air a couple of times to see if it would let go but it didnt, they are pretty well reinforced. Although I did have the thought of it letting go when I was working on the car when it was running so another reason to replace it haha

Did you put the shroud back on or did you leave it off? I'm thinking of taking mine off because the shroud is cracked and maybe replace the fan with an electric one later anyway. Just curious.

I put the shroud back in, mine has a very small crack at one of the bolting points that I accidentally did a couple of years ago but overall in good shape for being 17 years old.

Little project I wrapped up today, got some scene lights and spot lights for the rack. Got the lights off of Amazon as they work for my needs and if I ever want to upgrade to a brighter spot light I can always do so in the future but it works pretty well for the price. The spots are Auxbeam brand and the side lights are Kalwell I believe. Ran the wiring through the superstrut channel crossbar I made and down the A pillar underneath the weatherstrip. I have 360° lighting and will come handy whether camping, in a parking lot or just to see everywhere in a dark area. Some of the pictures are with the normal headlights and then the lightbar and spot lights, then looking to the side without and with the side lights on.8f31c9093f9c31ec0edbf0bf214779ab.jpg584ee9a74cad10ef1b00e10a0efb2613.jpg87444b35fbd8390743b7dc6ecad71aaa.jpg11fe35077062add761298ff1491ea598.jpg427034b070aa1255cd97ef7b182fb210.jpg9d2ab5d8d286f23a88dec1bc77ae2163.jpgbbccaefec0b81ea9b3416a20ba684382.jpgd1d27596a85d618fcf39e3dc90a11146.jpgdc87fbe1b8cefe50c15522e8f3846041.jpg92a6651df75dd31fb7840f8f8359a8a0.jpg

More maintenance for the rig, new valve covers, valve cover gaskets, spark plugs and coil packs. I love hitting maintenance milestones... Shoulda tried to score some of the aluminum covers to replace with so you can service the spark plug seals in the future
I heard that the aluminum valve covers are slightly different in dimensions and where hardware goes, I think I read on it on NICO a long time ago and that one guy tried it and it didn't work. Yeah it sucks to replace the valve cover for the built in spark plug tube seal, my passenger side which I found were completely shot. All 3 spark plugs were drenched

Hmmm....my understanding was their a direct swap other than needing to change the cylinder 1 coil pack due to the design. I’ll have to look into it

Oh then I must've misunderstood when I read it a couple years back lol. Well hopefully I don't need to replace the valve covers anytime soon hahaha

I picked up an aluminum valve cover from a 2001 LE at the local JY, after finding multiple spark plugs soaked ? . Swapped into my 2002 SE after wire brushing and a new gasket. Runs and fits perfectly and ties in nicely with the manifold! Not sure about changing the cylinder 1 coil pack, it was pretty much plug and play.

On my 01 Q the number I coil pack plugs in from the top instead of the side like the other coil packs due to there being a space issue right there
