That's really clever, I'm going to see if that works.  At this point I probably don't need to go that route as I've done enough ripping apart of the engine to pretty much reach everything, but that's an interesting idea and now I need to know if it would work to put the engine in.

I am new to this forum but I have a similar question that you raised.  I have a 2001 Pathy automatic (RE4R01A) 4WD with the electronic shift for the 4WD on the adapter case.  I am told that a RE4R01A 4WD with the manual shift for the 4WD on the adapter case is interchangeable.  I mean that the transmission case from the manual shift can be switched onto the adaptor case with the electronic shift.  Is this what you were getting at In your post.  By the way both tranny are from 2001 LE models with the 3.5L.
