Rear brake adjuster placement questions

Quick question about the rear drum brakes on my 87 pathfinder. The little star wheel adjuster is on the bottom of my drums and every single nissan I looked at in the junkyard 2 days ago all the way from an 87 z24i hardbody to a 94 pathfinder had the adjustment slot on the top side. Also my backing plates are flat and on everything I looked at there is a dimple where my adjustment hole is on my pathfinder. I've never come across this issue or read of anyone else. My pathfinder was built in 01/87 so maybe an early model thing?

I'll know more tomorrow but as of right now I'm dealing with rear brakes that won't hold an adjustment so from looking through the slot I'm under the impression that the locking tab for the star wheel is either damaged or rusted away.

I have hardware to replace it with but since I discovered this discrepancy with the adjusters placement I'm unsure if what I have will work now.

Just looked it up online and even the diagrams on there show the same sort of dimpled back plate as my dad's d21. So tomorrow I'll be removing the rear drums and taking a look at what's underneath.

The internal pic looks pretty standard to me. The only odd thing I see is it looks like the retainer on the right(top) shoe is missing.

From digging around more I've discovered that the brakes I have are on 87 and 88 model pathfinders which explains why I didn't find anything like that in the pick n pulls I've been to. And as for the retainer pin, the little flat tip broke off as I was trying to remove the drum.

I'm ordering a hardware set just to make sure everything is good to go.

And I also found out my issue for them not staying adjusted, the little stop tab was bent away from the star wheel.
