RCWD21
Today I was going through my somewhat local pick and pull and stumbled upon the coolest thing I've ever found out there. It was a 95 Ford Ranger with a full electric conversion. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
mjotrainbrain
Well that's neat! Did you steal the motor so your Pathy can finally get good mileage?
RCWD21
If I were to convert it the amount of batteries required would nullify any gains! I'm still really curious as to why it's sitting there though, that's a pretty big electric motor just to basically throw away. Citron
Some college administrator didn't know what they had. They aren't the brightest bulbs in the drawer.
Slartibartfast
Looks like a forklift motor or something along those lines. I like how they did the motor mount, that seems well thought out. It was probably a proof-of-concept type thing more than a viable driver, and kind of antiquated with where EV tech is going, but yeah, seems like a shame to junk that much work. At least it's at a wrecker where the components can be snagged, not just sent straight to the crusher. Hopefully someone gets a good deal on the electronics. I found the college online, but nothing about an EV program, no old news about this rig. Wonder what the story was?
TowndawgR50
Depending on the motor, most single DC setups with a lithium battery bank will put some serious numbers down. One of the fastest times on Pikes Peak is held by a dual DC motor BMW. 1500hp and boat loads of tq
