Strut Spacer Measurements?

While planning to do my SFD fabrication, I cannot seem to find someone who will sell the finished 4" Strut Spacers (with the * degree angle for alignment). I assume KRFabs wants to sell things in complete packages, so I doubt they'll JUST sell spacers.

 

If I were to make my own, does anyone know the measurements offhand? The image below is all I have from these forums, and it really doesn't help much. Really I just don't want to have to pull out my struts again to measure this, but if no one has any numbers, I guess that's what I'll do! :/

Got these from Johann, but I believe he's about to start selling kits so you could probably talk to him if you don't want to make your own. I have the measurements for the other components too if you want them.

If you have the pictures for the rest of the blocks, that sure would help. I'm working off of some pretty rough sketches like:

I don't know if the ones I have are necessarily better, but here ya go!

For the above diagram I have been told that the hole-to-hole distance should be 4", not 4.5".

Is anyone familiar with how the strut spacer is lined up with the mounting plates? With that 8 degree angle cut, does the center line up directly with the front of the strut?

I hope this is easy to understand.

Essentially, the two plates, when welded to the center tube have to be mounted and welded at the correct points on the tube so that the alignment is still correct, but does anyone have knowledge as to how they are aligned in relationship with the tube?

Take a protractor, set it to 8 degrees, mark a pipe, cut both sides parallel at 8 degrees to a length that will equal 4" after your plates are welded on (example- cut pipe to 3.5" if using 1/4" plate), copy the strut mount onto some plate and cut drill as needed and weld it all together making sure the orientation of the strut mount bolt pattern and the 8 degree slope matches your rig.

 

Sounds harder than it really is. Grab a grinder and a welder and go for it.

I think what Towndawg said to me is true..

 

So get everything ready minus the welding. Then use your best judgement and lightly tack the piece together. Hold your strut up there with the bracket and see if it's good or not. Then if it's bad just cut the tacks and reposition until you get it as close as possible.

 

I don't know if you will be able to get it perfect, maybe so, but I'd plan on getting some camber bolts. Or just plan on an alignment when your done. Unless it's waaaaaaay off you'll be fine driving to the shop to get an alignment.

 

However, I've read others reports of getting it just right and not needing an alignment.

 

Man, I sure would be grateful if you would post what you do to get it whenever you do get it.. maybe you can be the first to put that info up and get it stickied!

The information on the spacer shows the alignment of the incline. Most blueprints tend to show orientation in relation to each view literally. So in this case the slope should follow the centerline outwards towards the fender. The image shown is for the passenger side. It will be opposite for the drivers side.

Wish I would have viewed this before doing a ton of research and drawing it out myself haha. I appreciate it regardless, because that means I wasn't off in my ideas.

 

So ideally, my plan to make the spacer mounting plates is to get a mounting plate for these struts, and kind of repeat the design except with 1/8" steel. Is this a pretty good way of going about it? I'll probably draw it out on a steel sheet, then cut it with a grinder.

The 45deg thing is what screwed me up... what is that there for??? Now if it is actually 45deg and not 90deg, which I indicated above, then I am again intimidated.. if it is 90deg then I get it and I'm going to use square tubing instead of round pipe.

Lift coils from a Jeep Grand Cherokee, I think the WJ generation? If I remember correctly you need 4.5" lift coils for a 4" SFD. Shocks would be lift shocks for a particular model F250, don't remember exactly.

Here's what you'll need for a complete 6" lift:

 

4" subframe drop lift kit (4 subframe spacers, 2 engine mounts, 2 strut spacers, panhard drop bracket, 2 rear coil spring adapters, mounting hardware)

Bilstein 33-185569 shocks (rear suspension)

ironrockoffroad.com #10346 WJ 6.5" springs (rear suspension)

woodwardsteering.com UA201113,UA201108, 5.75" UADS steering extension

4x4parts.com 2" lift front coil springs (or OME HD springs, which provide a little less lift)

 

One end of the WJ springs will need to be cut off as appropriate to match the front lift height.
