4wd jerking when shut off

Hey all,

Got a question for you. I just bought a 2004 Pathfinder 4WD last fall and I've noticed that if you put it in Auto mode the transmission will jerk and make a loud noise when you park the car and shut it off. Dealer told me this was normal and I should put it back to 2wd (which does solve the problem) but I've never heard of having to put a truck back in 2wd like that. So is that a line of bull or do I just need to put it back in 2wd?

This is from my 2002 Pathfinder Manual (my Pathy does it as well, so I looked into it), USING ALL-MODE FOUR WHEEL

DRIVE (4WD) 5-26 Starting and driving :

"If the 4WD shift switch is operated while

making a turn, accelerating or decelerating

or if the key switch is turned off

while in the AUTO, 4H or 4LO, you may

feel a jerk. This is not abnormal.

When the vehicle is stopped after making

a turn, you may feel a slight jolt after

the selector lever is shifted to N or P. This occurs because the transfer clutch

is released and not because of a malfunction."

So sounds like it is normal. :D

Yo!!!!

I concur with the previous reply. I have a 03 LE and mine does the same. I was concerned at first but after consulting my trusty manual I was reassured that its totally NORMAL. So......just keep on truckin'.

I'm out.
