R50 to R51

Hello,

A friend of mine let me know of a trade in they got at his dealership, a 2008 Pathfinder V8. I currently have a 2003 Pathfinder. Both have around the same mileage (150k). Is there anything I should be worried about on the V8 Pathfinder compared to mine? He ran a carfax for me and it came back clean, the radiator and transmission were replaced on it at 99k miles. They were going to send it to auction or sell it to another lot because they don't sell cars with that many miles.

The V8 would be a nice upgrade for power; same engine in Titan and Armada, among others. The remaining pros/cons depends on your use. The R51, in my opinion, has a downgraded drivetrain over the R50. If you offroad, keep in mind it's a fully-independent suspension vehicle, and I'm not sure about what drivetrain upgrades are available. The ride is probably comparable to the R50, though. I believe it to have more interior cargo space as well, and some had 3rd row seats which come in handy.

I did a trail run with a guy on Saturday who has an R51 Off-Road package and Titan Swap. He had to do a lot of custom fabrication to get an appreciable amount of lift.

Any particular features of either truck that appeal to you?

Sounds like it had the SMOD already, so good to know that's out of the way (I'd still bypass the cooler in the rad). I have no direct experience with the R51 but a family friend had both and liked the R50 better--don't remember why specifically.

I'd say unless there's something you really like about the R51 vs the R50, or the R50's starting to crap out for whatever reason, stick with what you know.

The V8 was nice, however overall it just felt like a fat cow. There is nothing really wrong with my R50, this R51 was just 5 years newer and had a newer transmission on it, which drew me to it, plus that V8. Ultimately I thought for the $3k difference I would have to pay after trading mine in, it wasn't worth it.
