Main, pilot or needle bearing causing 3rd/4th gear noise?

Hi,

So as in title ive got some prity nasty bearing noise from 3rd- and much louder from 4th gear (manual tranny). I cant afford a full rebuild at the moment so need to narrow it down to the main culprit.

Do any of you with gearbox knowledge know which bearing/bearings would cause this grouping to rattle? I'll add that theres no grinding between any gears and none jump out. 5th is a little sticky to pull out though (kind of catches), this will be unrelated i assume but if u have any ideas on that one throw them in:)

1990, 2.7 diesel, manual.

Cheers

the pilot bushing should only make noise if the clutch is disengaged an and the tranny is in gear, or clutch is engaged and tranny is in neutral. otherwise it should be turning with the input shaft

There's a service bulletin on overfilling the manual transmissions, IIRC a couple of bearings don't get the lube they need with the factory fill level. I don't remember which ones, but the thread on the TSB likely has the information. Sounds like it's too late to save yours by overfilling, but you might get a little more life out of it that way. They're picky about oil type, too, so make sure you get the right stuff.

Cheers, yea i asked nissan a while ago about that TSB and they said it only applied to the trannys from the petrol pathfinders.
