Anyone made swaybar disconnects?

I am thinking of fabricating rear disconnects for the swaybar. I am mounting a rooftop tent, and want to keep the swaybar for the highway, but want to be able to disconnect it when I need more axle articulation.

 

I've had disconnects on a Jeep XJ I used to have, and they were really helpful. A bit of a pain to connect the bar again, but often I only had to disconnect one side to work.

 

I'm thinking of cutting the link in half, and fabbing up some sort of clevis and pin arrangement that locks it together. Anyone got any suggestions?

Must take them off. I haven't run a rear sway bar in years and have had my truck way overloaded, towed a tent trailer through mountain passes and it's ( rather was) my daily driver. Never had any issues not having one.

I did have Calmini 3" lift Spings in the back though, they're stiffer then stock.

I notice a big difference with or without the rear sway bar on my lifted 92. I personally prefer to run it when driving on streets or towing. You could just sort of copy what 4x4parts.com offers for their sway bar disconnects? I was thinking of making some as well but I'll probably come up with my own version when I do it since I have a welder. Probably use some small heim joints and some threaded rod and tubing to make my own.

Yep! Basically cut the link in half, drilled two 6.3mm holes and purchased these miniature 1T rated shackles to fit in the holes, thinking of changing to some sort of pin though for ever quicker disconnection.

those look nice! And simple to make too.. good idea!
