Moved from utah to maui, and left my benz-turbodiesel-OMElifted-arb'd-85 4runner on wvo behind... (Cant let that rust out on the island!!)

From 4x4 paradise to paradise with mud!

So i scored a pathfinder in maui. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

And, it runs a little funny. In overdrive maybe only, it stutters. Like a shakiness at low rpm, around 45/50/55 mph... When I accelerate it seems to all be there... Could use a tune up, but most power I would imagine is there... I want to flush the tranny, and check the tranny cooler filter?

Then try to source a bigger tranny cooler.. As I have read.

Should I start by tranny flush, tranny cooler flush, and t cooler filter until I source the larger tranny cooler?

I it around today out of overdrive and it felt I wanna say a lot smoother, but I wasn't cruising too far as this is the island of maui, and i haven't seen speed limits above 55mph... Not to mention I'm not quite registered.

Also cleaned my light switch out, but the lights only turn off completely w the knob turned off, but in the bright lights (forward) positioning? Is this normal?

Here comes the good news... I got this bad boy, this 62000 mile (!) white 93 Nissan pathfinder xe 4x4 w lsd, power windows, mirrors, and light rust for 295.00$ cash!

(-Pulled $5.00 of change out of it, it was really 300$)

It had a cracked windshield, so I hopped back on craigslist and scored an entire truck for $165, towing it this week to dismantle and cut apart...

I am most curious about a cheap and easy sas, or reversing a rear axle and sas readying it. Any parts list or tips would be helpful.

Secondly, I saw a double transfer case adaptation somewhere, maybe on here?? Once again, any parts list or tips... Id love to put them to use.

Just want to build a sound pathfinder for surfing, and camping and getting up muddy mountains.

Doug in Hawaii. Mahalo!!

How in the name of God did you get it for $300?!?!?!? I thought my 91 XE that I bought this summer for $1500 was a steal at 75000 miles!!!!

Also, welcome to the forum! (And to the white WD21 club ;) )

Anything you could possibly want about Pathfinders can be found here, and of course, your WD21 chassis in particular. I haven't been here all that long myself, but if I were you I would try to get used to the search function as quickly as possible. Makes life easier and peeves people off less.

When the rest of the site see's your post, expect quite a bit of ooh's and ahh's.

POST SOME PICTURES (you'll need to save them to an image hosting site, then grab that url and copy that into the "post image" option)

As for aftermarket stuff, you won't find nearly the support that you did for your 4runner. For some reason, Nissan seems to get neglected. However, there are several lift options.

https://ruggedrocksoffroad.com/ <-- WD21 Stuff in general.. click on the WD21 R50 R51 Section

https://www.4x4parts.com/i-18981375-pathfinder-custom-suspension-lift.html <-- Another lift option, Suspension

In general, you'll want to start off by replacing your plugs, wires, cap and rotor. Then, has the timing belt been replaced? If not, it needs to be. For the 1993 year, you may either have a belt that has a 60k change interval, or one of the ones with the 105k interval.

Next, you'll want to remove and coat all of the rust spots you can find.

Crank your torsion bars to get that sagging front end back to where it should be.

etc, etc, just ask or search to find out.

Once again, :welcome:

So, I think I have a new timing belt... Plugs wires and distributor as seen in photo.

The lift size I want^^

Has anyone ever just replaced factory hubs, and fender trimmed to fit 33s w no lift on a pathfinder? Will it work??

I already scored one parts truck, and am well on my way to sourcing a free solid axle front from a different abandoned nissan..

You can fit 33's by trimming the fenders, but you'll have to trim them a lot. And obviously account for 21 years of suspension sag. But yes, 33's will fit a WD21 with trimming probably some minor adjustments.

As for that axle, is there any way that you can post a picture that shows more of the axle and less of the rotors? It looks like a 44, but could be a 30, cant really tell in the lighting

33x10.5 are supposed to fit with little to no trimming, provided you've got a set of stock alloys or wheels with similar backspacing and your torsion bars are where they should be.

Those look like Jeep wheels under that Hardbody, which makes me think the axles may have come from a Jeep, but that's all I've got. Unless you plan to regear, you might want to score the rear axle too; IIRC it's tough to find gearsets for the Dana and the H233B (stock rear diff) that match and don't cost more than the rest of the truck.

The front might be a Jeep D30, I don't remember a 5 lug front D44? I see the rear has 5 lug Jeep wheels, so it may be a D44A or Ford 8.8. Like that Bart guy said, seems like someone stuffed the crappier running gear from a Jeep under it.

Thats what i was thinking.. Haven't seen it yet, but yea. My buddy days it is just sitting there for the taking so he took some pics for me.

I might be trading the pathfinder for a 66 bronco! But not concrete on that. If i do I'm taking those solid axles and the t case off the camo junk truck and putting it under the grey truck... Screw it i have time and a yard! And i will have a 66 bronco that runs for 300$

What do you all reckon i do?

What is the deal with 4x4s in Maui? Are they just an unnecessary abundance that have no value? You found two Nissan trucks on CL for less the $500? Dude you are obviously well versed in all that hardware moving around I can't even begin to keep up with all of that, waay over my head. That Bronco does look pretty beat up, I think I'd stick with the Pathfinder, you seem to be on a good track there.

So what do people drive mostly there in Maui? Is that a small island? I don't know anything about Hawaii.

727 square miles.. Ppl often abandon vehicles here, so that creates the market floor. Its been blowing my mind, a guy today told me he got a porsche 912 for free!

My neighbor has a 70s 911 and 914, he has around 2000$ in both of them!

Ppl have dreams, but no parts or abilities out here. The cost of living is high as are the grocery bills! So i think ppl have dreams, then have to sustain their realities...

Old toyotas are freaking gold. Check out old toyotas on craigslist in Hawaii, and get ready to blow your own mind.

90s extended cabs listed for 8-9000$. Ha!
