Howdy! from the Sonora

Howdy, I'm SAR, just bought my first Pathfinder, a 1989 SE 4X4, 3.0L V-6, automatic tranny and hubs.

I live in the Upper Sonora Desert.

I have an old Scout, but my wife wanted something with a/c and p/s.

Both work well on this new-to-us truck, but tranny has a problem:

Previous owner says he was driving along, in "Drive," when he lost all drive. No reverse, either.

"Park" works, tranny fluid full, red, and unburnt, no sign of coolant.

Could this be a "Line Pressure Valve Solenoid" problem?

If so, did Nissan offer a $140 repair/replace kit, and is it still available?

Any other tips welcome.

Thanks in advance.

That tire is one of a fresh pair on rear, a "Vigorous" by "HI FLY."

Never heard of that before.

:welcome:

Always glad to see someone saving one of the 2-doors. :aok:

You'll find more information here than anywhere else on the Interwebs - and a good bunch of folks, too.

Thanks!

Besides RHD, how do our trucks differ between the AU and US?

Don't think there is any other difference, although mine is a JDM imported terrano (wanted the td27 wd21) so couldn't tell you for sure

My initial suggestion on the tranny is to take it to a reputable tranny shop and tell them exactly what is going on. They can probably do some testing without tearing into it but, even if they do, bite the bullet and have it rebuilt. It should last the remainder of the years of the truck at that point.

Differences in the Australian Terrano compared to the US Pathfinders is our speedo display is in km/h with no mph markings, the fuse box has all Japanese writing, same thing with the info pad under the windscreen visor, minor differences in center console too. Mine came with an after market coin holder next to the T shifter, not sure if it's a stock thing with all Terranos. The front indicator lamps on the corners are just parker lamps on the Australian ones but we have side indicators on the side fenders and two on the lower front inset into the front bumper. Rear lights are the same on both Terrano and Pathfinder.
