Welding Rear Axle

Recommended Posts

I have not seen any post on welded rear axles so here it is. I did a disk brake swap and when I was there I welded the rear spider gears. I hear people say don't do that if it's a daily driver but I did it anyways. Works great and no problem with my axles breaking. I don't run into many spots where I have to back up when turning in a parking lot. Just go slow and when it starts chirping and let off the gas so you don't bind your axles shafts. I've had my axle welded for a year now and I wheel the crap out of it with no axles breaking.

The issues really stem from tire wear and drivability depending on wheelbase.

Some older vehicles, or vehicles that are really flailed on the trail can see breakage.

In my experience welded fronts tend to be the ones to go.

Yes tires will go a little faster but I'm always rotating my tires for even tread. I will not lock the front do to I know I would break the front end for sure for the wheeling I do with it.
