Real racing. What a course!

Recommended Posts

Not only is it amazing how the driver gains confidence and picks up speed as he does a few laps, the lay out is a trip as well (probably to keep speeds down and make it technical).

It goes from high speed tunnel/straight away to a parking island detour, back to high speed sweeping turns, dodge the SunGlassHut kiosk, drive downtown, commute, cut hard and head down back to the water...

Can we please cut the NASCAR crew loose on this track, restrictors removed? Just one overall camera for coverage needed because we'll add dye to the fuel tanks so when they ignite, you can tell the team by color. "And a pillar of smoke just shot up from the Nouvelle Chicane! It is pink, so the Pepto Dismal team might find this one hard to swallow...".

My favorite sporting event in the world is the Formula1 Monaco GP. I have some vintage video from the mid '70's from that circuit in my racing DVD collection. The tunnel is under a five star hotel that sits high upon a cliff looking over the French Riviera. :aok:

Best track I've ever seen was a truck bypass in Western North Darkota. I've never seen anything like it. 17 miles or something of banked turns.

My favorite form of racing is MotoGP. Favorite track is Laguna Seca. I'm probably biased as I've been there multiple times.

Got a friend that doesn't think any motorsports are true sports, he is an old high school jock. He thinks if it doesn't take a ball of some sort, it doesn't qualify.... I tell him my kinda sports take a different kind of balls. I love anything with an engine and rubber.... Oh wait, this stuff is pretty friggin' awesome too!!

I wanted to check out the Red Bull air races in San Francisco a few years back but something else came up.

Looks like pavement under the tires, not dirt...

I used to annoy my idiot ball sport fanatic co-workers when they would circle jerk about the last game. I'd point out to them that watching men tights jump on each other before heading off to shower together wasn't exactly manly...

They have engines and rubber as well. ;)

I enjoy most motor sports but am not a fanatical about any. The motorcycle desert racers always impressed me, these guys run insane speeds through nasty terrain where every turn and hill is unknown...

Monaco! Here are some cool F1 videos at Monaco, the F1 car is significantly faster around this track (and this is the slowest F1 track). The first video is Senna in the 80s, the Monaco master. The second is Alonso in the Ferrari in 2012.

You should also check out the documentary called Senna and the new Ron Howard movie called Rush (true stroy about the 76 F1 season).

Hah! I was going to say, that looks Pike's peakish...

I like how he tore his fender flare off at 2:25. :D

I was always fascinated by this race class up that mountain.

Which leads into this form of insanity.

And this neat stunt show...

I love the hillclimb and rally stuff, as well as the Baja endurance racing, though I don't follow it especially closely. I have a friend who actually prepped a couple Ducati Dual-Sports for the Akropovic team, he's one of the head managers for the North American division, and has taken home quite a few neat bikes. My neighbors are also involved in racing, though with the Baja 1000 specifically. He chased for team Toyota three years in a row, and has been going to the race for at least the last 15 years, it's always neat to talk shop with them. Needless to say, we have a little friendly Toyota/Nissan rivalry going. ;) But I'll be the first to admit his TRD supercharged Tundra with complete Camburg suspension (around 500hp and 16" of travel) is pretty sweet.

I usually fall in love with the older iron, so you can bet I could win at a double clutching challenge, or anything with manual advance/retard of spark. The latter spark adjustment was the class they put me in in high school. Which might explain why the only sport I do follow religiously is NASCAR. #22 and #88 are my picks.
