Hello, I am currently having a problem with my reverse lights. The bulbs, fuse and switch are all good the reverse lights work when you push the button on the switch but with the switch inserted into the tranny the lights do not come on in the reverse position... Is there some kind of adjustment for the shift lever? When I got the car the reverse lights would flicker on and off now they do nothing.. any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank You!

The piece inside the tranny that contacts the switch has worn down. I had to do what another member (MY1PATH) did and I kept zapping little spot welds on the end of my switch button with my Mig welder. Works great now. The other alternative is to wire up a toggle switch to turn your reverse lights on when you are backing up. The negative to that is leaving the switch on.

Have you ever thought about leaving it? I never had reverse lights for the longest time (just lazy after tranny swap), just tapped the horn if I was backing up in a crowded spot, then one day I had some spare time I metered everything out and got it hooked up. Just a suggestion lol

If you have dark tinted windows, or wheel when its dark, backup lights are a good thing to have.

Tapping the horn doesn't make you not at fault if you run into/over something you can't see. Some states have an inspection where your backup lights have to work as well.

Pretty sure he's safe from inspection in Oregon... unless things are different now. But, yes I agree completely that they are good to have.

I also had the problem, I snagged one from a "fairly" low mileage truck in a wrecking yard (cost me $3-4 bucks iirc) and installed... problem solved. :aok:

No I agree first time wheeling in the summer it was getting dark and I had to use my brake lights, thus i fixed it, plus my rear window is fairly lightly tinted so it made seeing a breeze. Inshort I waited until it was a problem :P

I just meant in general some people can fail inspections for it so its a good thing to fix.

I tired 3 different switches before My1path suggested how he did it. That's what fixed it for me

Bad suggestion on my part now that I think about it. If you we're up in bc I'd give you the one off of my truck, it became a donor as of last week.

So, do you guys think JB weld would work as well? I've used it on a radiator before and never had a problem... or should I actually weld a little piece on there? And I would just leave it... (have for a bit now) but I'd rather not get pulled over, or get in a wreck over something rediculous like this if I do not have to.

Just checked RockAuto.com and they list the switches for under $14

I think you are missing the part where his switch works. Its a piece inside the tranny that wears down. I'd say buy a new switch and compare it to your old switch, maybe the button is longer?

Nope the old switch was good. the new switch works the thing inside the tranny is worn down.

You really think JB weld would break off in there? I've successfully used it to fix a leaking radiator..

Can you link the thread?

Can you link the thread?

I'm not positive he actually had a thread on it. He just commented in my thread about what he did. I just did, little short zaps and built up the weld. You don't need much, I actually had to grind a little off.

So if I wanted to just wire the switch inside the cab in the center console do I need a grounded wire or can I just hook the POS+ & NEG- wires to one of the unused switches on the console?

Sweet got the switch hooked up yesterday!! Feel a LOT safer now!! But now I want to get another manual transmission, tear it apart and see what exactly is supposed to be pushing the button on the reverse light switch from inside the tranny.
