whats wrong with your pathy?

well, i figured it would be fun for everyone to share whats wrong/dosent work on their pathfinders just for fun..so here goes.

vac leak somewhere in engine, causing annoying whistle and high idle

of course, i am another victim of the exhaust manifold warpage

front windshield washer fluid motor went out, so im currently using the pump designed for the REAR nozzle to spray my windshield.

oil leak from head

engine is....getting up there in miles and noticible loss in compression

vents up near windshield are about to fly off im afraid

door must be unlocked from passenger side because cheap plastic connecting the tumbler to the rod that activates the door locks broke.

when i did have the ability to unlock from the drivers side, only the drivers and rear drivers doors would unlock...both pass sides wont.

when i lock the doors, all of them lock with the master except the rear passenger

drivers rear window no worky

vent surrounds in the center dash and passenger side have been ripped out by my brother.

ill fitting CD player sticks out of well about 1" or so. our radio pocket is SMALL!

gas gauge is weird. after i fill up, 20 miles down the road its at half lol. but i guess its better than none at all like it was when i got it. fixed that.

broken fan blade on blower motor or something. when i turn the air to "3" the entire dash shakes...its quite interesting.

i have a leak somewhere in the rear of the cargo area...causing water to come inside and soak my carpet on occasion.

dash is cracking

annoying creak when i turn hard over hills

pretty sure AC compressor is flipping me the bird

rear wiper/washer no longer works

open hatch button no longer works on dash

rear defroster...no work

cruise control...has trouble keeping proper speed

um, i think thats it for now. im sure that i am leaving some things out, but share what makes your pathy unique! lol

Still have broken front bumper from offroading looks ok though as you can't tell.

The front cover that sits by the foglamp broke off when again I was offroading.

Also plastic front mud flaps broken also from offroading so it makes a kind of a unique thump/flapping sound.

All in all I think they might be my falt. :D

Holy cow DSM_Guy that's pretty discouraging. Lots going wrong there with your pathy. My 1993 has the following problems:

166,000 KM's. Rear hatch cylinders are getting saggy.

Driver's door arm rest is starting to crack.

Exh manifold is making some noise when cold. Not bad, I'm not about to tackle it yet.

Rear back up light switch needs changing. Going to try and accomplish this later today. Failed attempts last Sunday. Need to drop the tranny slightly I guess.

And that's all folks. The above is just minor stuff.

Manifold tick, gear position indicator lights on dash don't work, hatchback window struts getting saggy. Um.

I need to replace the hatch lock and the driver's side door lock cause somebody tried opening them with a screwdriver, which jacked up the little flap that keeps water and dirt out, so now the locks are getting tough to turn...

That's about it. I've fixed everything else.

hahhaa... this is a funny thread... my old truck would have had a nice list here... most of which were to me just quirks that made "puttputt" special... (things like no gas guage, fan only worked on certain settings, all sorts of rattles, squeaks and noises I couldn't hear anymore as my brain had turned them off ages ago...) finally the list got too big & it was time to retire my baby :sniff:

My pathy now - just a rear wiper motor that is completetly wack. It works, but not quite right, it likes to stop in the middle of the window. This is a new problem, but im getting used to it - just have to switch it on & off a few times at the right time.

I'm sure over time - they pathy will grow it's own interesting quirks/

Hmm, let's see... Other than just having done the clutch and replacing the shocks, what's left ?

Lower Ball Joints

Centerlink

Tie rod ends

CV boots look like used bomb squad gear

The hole burned through drivers side floor board (right heel) needs to be fixed

Just started exhaust ticking when cold, but that may be the seal to the down pipe

The open door light flickers while driving from the rear lift senser

And my personal favorite !!! The cigarette lighter is possesed... If you try to use it, it does 1 of 3 things randomly. 1) Works normally 2) Stays depresses eternally without gaining a degree or 3) Works it's self up to INFERNO (I mean beyond cherry red) and launches it's self out of its berth to ricochet randomly about the passenger compartment like the happy little meteor it always wanted to be. Personally it amuses me, but then I'm kinda quacked anyway. I think of it as a mood ring for the pathy.

All in all not a bad list, but then she's a 95 with 110K and just developing her personality....

DSM, to put things into perspective, you should have mentioned you have almost 1/4 MILLION miles on your rig !!

oh yeah, no doubt, its got 240,600 miles on her. been through the family, then me and my little bro (esp him) put it through hell. i wasnt too bad, just did some wheelin.

but reading yalls stuff i though of a couple more things!

rear hatch struts are shot (didnt think of it cuz im just used to using the peice of PVC i keep in the back!)

drivers side armrest is cracked horribly.

oh, and up near the collectors i have a gasket that is gone...so exhaust leak there

and...i have a leak in my PS pump...oh well lol

but the thing is that all sounds bad...but to tell you the truth..they are pretty minor! i think its pretty funny really, but its still pretty reliable.

Hmmmmm, where to start

Steerings all loose and truck's all over the road

Manifold tick (or something in the exhaust)

Vacuum whistle - tried fixing with a new intake hose, but it's still there! I think it's that 1/2" hose that comes out of main intake hose causing all the noise, but I'll get it -study-

Bad bushings somewhere - wheels bounce like crazy on bumpy roads. -bounce-

Tranny goes "bump" at 1-2 shift

Can't drive in OD at speeds <30 mph - tranny gets real shifty

Truck needs lift/wheels too small

CV boots just starting to crack

Brake calipers need replacing

AC completely dead, but who needs it anyway (in Seattle)

Dome light just started to flicker this week

Rear bumper's dented

Can't open the rear hatch without it hitting my head a few seconds later

Creaks, squeaks and rattles

Mines a 1997

Rear Hatch Cylinders are shot

Rear Suspension busings are gone

Drivers door platic cargo holder broke off

Possible Cam Bearing Shot...High pitch squeal at idle...goes away when RPM go up

That's IT! Not too bad

Lets see, not really too much for it being an '87... little stuff mostly... :D

Both the rear hatch and rear window struts need replacing ~ they do this--> so my head get's P...

Both armrests on the doors are pretty much toast...

Backup light switch needs replacing...

Tires are reaching the end of their useful life...

The dreaded exaust leak ~ not so little...

Trying to time it so I can do a bunch at once, I want to put in a 3" BL, figure that will give me more room to install Thorleys ~ doing away with the leak. Planning on moving up to 32's on new rims, so that needs to wait on the BL as well. Maybe I'll have more room for the B/U switch while the body's loose, too...

LOL 93blkpathr, the rear hatch head hitting complaint had me in stitches !! Are the supports not supporting, or is it you. I have the cure; just read my latest endry in the 'self=depreciation alley' in the general gorums. I walk with a permenant hunch now....

I think I'm just going to declare it a "hard hat only" zone. I think it's a combination of the struts losing their compression and my own forgetting the hatch is going to come down before I stick my head in there (so much for doing things in a hurry!) - one day I will learn..........one day :)

This'll be fun/ long

The 88:

Cracked bezel on drivers side corner marker

Manifold leak on passenger side (doesn't go away when the engines warm)

Sounds like both tension rods are going bad

Top windshield molding gone (someone substatuted caulking  )

Rockers on both sides have a nice rust hole unedr the doors

Cigarette lighter no worky (can't use my cell charger :( )

Lights on all the dash switches non exsistant

Cracks in the dashboard, missing passenger vent outlet

Vent selector stuck on defrost

Seat padding in poor shape, seats covered in coffee stains

Parking brake non functional (broken cable & missing pieces in side drum)

Lots of rot in the rear underside area (slowly fixing that)

Rear shocks and springs pretty much toast

Exterior locks on doors don't work so well (drivers side anything will turn it)

Tire carrier bushings shot, sags when opened, rattles when closed

Rear licence plate plastic bezel missing

Probaly a few more things I forgot

The 93:

Sagging front bumper (POS relocation brackets)

Cracked drivers side corner marker, and turn signal lenses(watch out for that tree)

2 broken air box closure clips

Intake tube ripped at TB (it's duct taped for now :D )

Bad starter solenoid (got the new part yesterday)

Minor manifold leak on drivers side (goes "away" when engine's warm)

Custom aluminum front skid bent, but intact

1 bent rim from offroading

Vent shades on both sides comming loose

Rear hatch shocks only work when it's warm

Rear bumper/tire carrier (custom) needs finished (my own fault)

Exhaust pipe rattles on my tow hitch

Drivers side tail light and rock guard bent and broken (not visible though)

Minor frame rust in the rear

Broken bolts on gas tank skid(held up with counter top draw bolt)

Like with the 88, I'm sure there are other things I can't think of at the moment.

On my 98:

The green light on the dash that appears when 4x4 is engaged stopped working last year.

And the worst one that I can't figure out is the shudder during acceleration. Its either the MAF sensor or dirty MAF sensor...I changed the fuel filter...no fix. Still trying to figure it out!

hmm that I know of on my 88: *takes a DEEP breathe*

Door innards for passenger door missing, also the handle on the outside

someone tried to pry my drivers side door OFF to break in, now I can feel the wind when I drive.

CV boot is mashed potatoes, need to replace the joint there..

Wheel bearings are done, (mmm speed wobbles)

my bumpers not all the way on.

I am missing drivers side and passenger side vents, the middle vents are left but whatever is in between them is gone.

ex owner punched the dash and it caved in a bit...

the body where the spare tire holder is bent in.

some dumb bumber sticks where put on :P (some good ones too though)

the rear hatch struts need some replacin on mine too :P

part of the interior hangs in the back on the passenger side, also the vent cover is broke and won't go back in.

darned alarm sets itself after 30 seconds (its fun to take it to shops and watch them get hassled by it :P )

I have no car stereo whatsoever and no front speakers...

the cover on the AC and light is lose.

drivers side window needs to be pressed towards the front to roll up all the way.

four wheel drive indicator lights don't work.

its really hard to put it in 2 wheel drive from 4H

temp gauge doesn't work.

speedomter always shows 15 MPH if your below 15.

fuel door is bent

fog lights were taken off :(

*exhales*

:sniff:

2001 with 54,000 miles:

No lift yet

Stock Wheels

I bought this because the little things that kept going wrong with my 94 were getting old and I wanted something with less problems. So far it has proven to have been a good decision.

Luckily, I've never had any serious mechanical problems with my 95 XE.

The main issues are cosmetic. Got a patch of rust over the driver's side rear fender flare. Also the rubber trim pieces going around all the windows are rusted through. My rear window hinges broke (just bought another set from 88 and have yet to install them). And I dented in my back bumper from backing into an iron pole in a parking lot (ooops).

Instrument cluster still needs pulled out and fixed. (god I'm lazy).

Ripped off 3/4 of my exhaust on an offroad excursion recently. Still need

to get that replaced. (darn I'm broke).

Basically that's about it. Most of the normal wear items have been fixed or replaced....except fot the manifold issue. I'm pondering headers to fix that.....

......One of these days.

94 SE

Just fixed most of it ...

Tie rods, shocks, cv's, balls, rotors/pads/calipers, tires and alignment.

On the list...

Exhaust tick

Door locks (self-locking "feature")

Small rust around the rear window trim

Antenna does not retract or fully extend

1995 SE, 75,500 miles.

I just put on headers to fix the exhaust leak/broken stud, so that's done.

Brake pads are getting down to around 3mm remaining, will probably have to do those this year.

One of those little clips that the rear lap belts hang from is broken (hey 88, you ever see those in the salvage yard?)

Um, that's it. When I look at how much it would cost to replace it, I remind myself how reliable it's been, and then find better places to put the money...

1996 se, 120,000 miles

In progress of changing timing belt, water pump, and belts.(water pump should be here in an hour or two)

an as yet unidentified part under the intake leaking antifreeze.

all but 1 mud flap torn off.

right front fender flare on front bumper hanging on by a prayer.

hazzard light button light doesnt work

front pinion seal leaks

spare tire carrier latch sticky

oxegen sensor is out

trashed crank angle position sensor

clutch hose from (frame) to trans needs replaced

skid plates torn off from a jaunt through the sagebrush

rear bumber taken off (waiting patiently for my new custom bumper, in progress)

broken drivers side headlight

windshield looks like a roadmap

one fog light not working

either the trans or transfer case has a howl after 4 wheeling, comes and goes (might even be the water pump (i hope))

CB is shot.

needs a drivers side front axel ( I think the lift might have a little to do with that)

Misc front suspension bushings

and she really needs a bath

Like others, I am sure theres more but this is a pretty complete list

Just replaced the clutch, front brakes, bearings and seals. (did the bearings and seals because I broke two studs off the drivers side front while taking off the wheels to do the brakes)
