shortysmash
Well i went to advance to get some fresh gear oil for the old girl and they asked what type diff i had. I wasnt sure if it was limited slip or just a regular diff. So i didnt buy any since i know that limited slip diffs also require the additive. does anyone know how i tell and how much and what weight gear oil i should buy? i know to fill it up till it runs out fill plug, but any idea how many quarts that is i searched but found a couple differnt numbers
MY1PATH
Buy 3 qts of anything that says 70w90 or 8w90 and LSD on the bottle. No additve needed. Works in both types of diffs. anyway there should be a little orange LSD sticker above the plug (under the dust an mud)
pathfounder
I think I used something like two bottles when I did mine. Buy three and return one unopened. You should be able to tell if you have LSD or not just by driving through mud or gravel with some heavy throttle.
MY1PATH
or jack up one wheel (neutral no brake) and try to turn it. If it turns you are open if it doesn't you have lsd

Panbacca
There was a Valvoline brand that I used in mine that was recommended for both LSD and non-LSD. Works like a charm! I used 80w90, and buy yourself a couple of bottles. That should do it fine. Edited February 2, 2011 by Panbacca
rig002
Hello guys, Ok I have a 01 Pathy and last week I did change the rear differential oil. I did use 80-90 valvoline synthetic why did I use 3.5 Qrts until the oil started to come out of the fill plug? Did I use too much? Why everybody said 1.5 or 3?
