What do you always have with you?

But how good do those stay up there when you open the rear door? Wouldn't that add more weight to it and make it harder to keep open?

I actually ended up going back and getting bigger conduit hangers. they automatically come with a nut and bolt to keep it in. The shovels on the other hand are light, I haven't had a chance to replace the liftgate shocks since they were already wore out when I bout the pathy, but they hold up good. 80 something cents for a hanger and some screws and thats it.

Park Tools Frame Alignment Tool....it's a huge piece of chromed tool steel, slight arc about 20" long with teeth cut into it welded on a handle about 26" long..... it looks like something a ninja may have left it in the truck after i dropped him off somewhere and it does not get used except under extreme duress. So not used....yet.

no point in using the FAT unless you've got a ***, Frame Alignment Guage. and remember it only works on steel frames. in reality the DAG is really the only useful one.

Another thing you should always have with you.... a red flag and piece of rope. You never know when you will need to haul something longer than your pathy and have it stick out the back past the tire carrier. Yea, there's the roof but the rack claims a limit of 80lbs and those Mammoth Tusks are a bit heavier than that

All the time - an analogue wristwatch and a pocket knife, cash and a mobile phone.

For trips out, depending on destination/geography/distance -

On me - Gerber multi-tool, Opinel folder, fixed blade full tang camp knife, flint striker, lighter.

In truck - Spare fuel/oil/trans fluid and brake fluid, fork/spoon/plate/mug, 25L water, tools, rescue equipment (Tracks, snatch strap/bow shackles, airbag jack, compressor, long handled shovel, rope), repair stuff (Silicone self amalgamating tape, insulating tape, duct tape, spare belts/hoses, nuts/bolts/washers, headlight/brake/indicator bulbs, fuses, reel of 30 amp auto wire, crimp terminals). Self inflating camp mat, hammock, tarp, sleeping bag, blanket, headtorch, spare LED torches, gas hot plate with spare cylinders, cook set, 2 x fire extinguishers.

Spare Shades/boots/socks and a wooly hat!

Umm, sometimes more...

I don't know what movie it is but I'm going to join him with a shoulder-able 105, a MIDI for back-up and maybe a 6 shooter in .458 Rigby..... and a swiss army knife.... 'cause ya never know when you're going to need a corkscrew!

Yeah totally...I get pinned down in firefights all the time. If only I had gold bars to deflect the bullets and redirect them at the shooter....and then ride my shark with lasers and chop everyone's head off with my sabre, which I also always keep in my pathfinder.

And of course I always try to dress/prepare for the trip. Call someone and tell them where you're going and when you plan to be back, always carry a knife and firestarter on you. Now that the pathy is getting up in years, I have changed my standard haul. I don't do much offroad anymore because I'm getting tired of welding it back together and there aren't really any good local areas anymore.

My Current stock is

Glove-box:

necessary paperwork

straw (in plastic wrapper, not paper)

Buck 110 knife

tire pressure gauge

thin nylon dog leash

granola bars

pen/pencil/notepad

Console:

puke-bag

McDonalds napkins

Plastic wrapped utensils from Wendy's

pouch with emergency money (beyond that which is in the ashtray)

package of mints

6-in-1 screwdriver

lockback serrated knife

Side rear compartments:

shop towel roll

large trash bags (good for seat covers if you're really muddy)

electrical repair kit (wires, tape, test-light, assorted fuses, etc)

shackles

rope (miscellaneous pieces for lashing stuff)

red flag (for hauling long lumber out the window)

jumper cables

welding sticks

Rear area:

5-gal bucket

small shovel

gym-bag with volleyball gear

gym-bag with baseball/softball gear

gym-bag with hockey gear

soccer ball

machete

tow-strap

aluminum t-ball bat (weapon, not for games)

5x7 tarp

blanket

work gloves

spare boots

There are various other things hidden here and there, just in case, like:

welded steel rings (for the hatch to latch onto so you can throw a rope through it to hold the tailgate down when you have stuff sticking out

pliers

cash

plutonium

stale teddy grahams

fishing line/hooks
