  1. My 93 SE has Limited Slip, 4 wheel disc and adjustable shocks that still work perfect. I put new Nissan OEM shocks on a few years ago because the old ones were leaking but the system still worked so I went with the adjustable again. 267,000 miles and the system still works. They help a lot off road but not something you have to have.
  2. I have a 93 Pathfinder and an 04 Xterra and I prefer driving the Pathfinder. The Pathfinder has more power, even though it has a smaller engine, gets better mpg's, is more comfortable for a long trip because of the many more extras that come on a Pathfinder that do not come on an Xterra. The Xterra looks good and it handles well off road but it's boring to drive. :asleep: I would buy an 05 though. That's a whole different truck.
  3. Thanks for the tip. If I decide to tackle it, I was going to do all 6. I just have to decide if it's worth it with the rusted frame. I have to wonder how much longer I can go on driving it until it becomes a safety issue, if not already. Mechanically it may be fine but I don't want the rear end falling off in traffic some day. :o
  4. I put a new fuel filter on this morning with no improvement. I've also tried additves like you recommended. I used Lucas and SeaFoam but neither did any good. I pulled the new plugs out this morning to see what they looked like after a week in there and one of them had black soot, but funny thing is the old one that was taken out of there last week didn't have any soot, none of them did. I'm starting to think what the dealership told me was right, that the injectors went bad. The 02 SuperCharged Xterra I'm looking at is looking more like a reality.
  5. The catylitic converter was replaced about 20,000 miles ago along with the o2 sensor, because it was starting to smell when it got hot. I found a cheap converter through some web site, can't remember now which one. I know it was smaller than the original though. I'm not smelling it like it was when it went out before.
  6. This site has been a great help to me lately trying to pinpoint what's been going wrong with my 93 Pathfinder SE with 5 speed manual. It's been getting progressively more sluggish and is chugging whenever I accelerate. At first I thought it was maybe the trans so I changed the gear oil with 5 quarts (I did the tilting the truck thing to get more oil in) of Redline MT-90, and the transfer case with new Redline also. No improvement so then I moved on to changing the plugs including one that was rusted in there for 105,000 miles which I got out. I put in NGK Iridium plugs, new cap and rotor, no improvement. Used Lucas Upper Cylinder Lubricant and Injector Cleaner in case the injectors were clogged, no improvement. So I took it to the dealership to see what they had to say. They said I have 4 bad injectors showing low ohms readings and my wires are arching. I had already checked for arching with spraying them with water in the dark, and I didn't see anything, and they were only maybe on there for 15,000 miles. They wanted $1100 to replace 4 injectors and he said we can start there. I took the truck home with me. I even put new $90 wires on yesterday. The truck has 263,500 miles on it, burns no oil whatsoever and would probably run another 100,000 with new injectors if that's really the problem. Problem is I have the rust hole under the back seat, rusted out front and rear chrome bumpers, and rust under the rear doors in the corners of the body and a lot of rust right through the frame behind the rear wheels. Is it time to just retire my Pathfinder, part it out and move on to a nice used Xterra I'm looking to buy, or replace the injectors which I could probably do myself but still have all this rust through the frame. How dangerous is that? Sorry for the long winded post but lot's of issues to be decided. Thanks for all your input!
  7. I just ordered 5 quarts of MT90 for my 93 SE. The info about the TSB was a great help. I had the dealership replace my original trans and clutch at 185,000 in 2001 because of the exact problems mentioned in the TSB. It cost me around $3400. The dealership never mentioned to me about the problems they had with the filler hole being too low and not allowing enough lubricant for the gears. Now, at 263,000 miles, I think I'm starting to feel the same problems starting again but I hope I'm wrong. Looking at my transmission case, it does not look like they replaced it with the correct, higher fill hole version, but instead it looks like they used an older version so now I'm having the same problems. That's just not right. I know it's been 3 years but I'm going back to the dealership to ask them why they failed to install the correct case that holds the proper amount of lubricant. With the TSB in hand, I think I have a pretty good case against them for faulty work. I'm going to try draining the old gear oil and installing the Redline MT90 over the weekend and we'll see if there's an improvement. I'm not experiencing the whinning, but some shutterring and rough acceleration between 50 and 60 in 4th and 5th gears. Almost feels like the clutch is not out all the way when the engine is under a load. Thanks again for the helpful info, Bernie
  8. I'm about to change the oil in my 93 SE's manual transmission with GL-4 synthetic but I couldn't find out anywhere, how much it will take? The owners manual is blank and my Chilton's doesn't say how much. I'll probably go with Redline. Which one do you recommend? I also want to change the transfer case oil with Dexron III, if that's correct, but again, how much will it take? Thanks in advance for any help. Bernie
  9. Hi Guys! New here and had to add to the post. My 93 SE has 258,650 miles and I still drive it 50 miles to and 50 miles from work everyday at 70 mph. New trans and clutch at 185,000, waterpump and alternator around 195,000 and it's on the 3rd timing belt. Burns no oil whatsoever and gets new synthetic oil every 6,000. They really do make a good truck!
