  1. There appears to be something called a clutch drum. I noticed it in the AT section of my service manual but was on my way out to dinner so I did not look further into it.
  2. sorry... I know mainly the 90-95 era pathy. If there was no significant change in the trans when they went with the new body, I can dig through my books and see if there is anything that could be called a 'drum thingie' and let you know.
  3. Excellent points. I was not in a position at the time to do any of the work myself. I 'dropped off' my entire vehicle at a small trans shop near me that has done work for friends and family in the past. They said they'd pull it apart and see what's going on and give me a call. They would come up with the cheapest solution of either replacing what's bad in mine or buying a used one, ripping it open and replacing any parts it needs (if any). The prices actually came within a hundred bucks or so of each other so I chose to continue with mine since I knew it's history. I mistyped the price, it was actually $1570 ($1600, not $2600) which included a very thorough inspection of all the tranny components (while it was open), replacement parts, labor, a 5k break-in period re-open and recheck and a 20,000 mile warranty. For a long time, I had a box in my garage that contained everything that got replaced except the TC. That was a little too bulky for me to hide from my wife who nags me about not being able to pull her van into the garage. The damage I had was obvious. I didn't have to rely on someone's word that 'this is bad'. I completely avoided the larger chains like AAMCO and Cottman since they seemed to dwell on how fast they could do the work as opposed to how well and how long they will stand behind it. Granted, if you want a quick turnaround, don't go to a small shop but this one was extremely thorough.
  4. and, while you're there... the cam seals, timing belt, thermostat, etc.
  5. last time I heard moaning in my pathy was... :X oops... nevermind, different subject.
  6. The reverse gear in an AT requires higher oil pressure than the forward gears. When I lost Reverse, it was because my rear pump had gone bad and I was not getting the tranny oil pressure that I needed. Subsequently, I had some bearing issues as well. I dropped it off for a complete overhaul (clutch discs, bearings, pump, torque convertor), etc and it ran be about $2600 and I have not had problems with it since (though the shifting is different now. It seems to run to a higer RPM before shifting).
  7. I have Jim's snail-mail address if you absolutely need it. PM me and I'll forward it to you.
  8. Jim really prefers to have the pics. If you take some pictures ahd have them developed, most places now have the option of putting them on disk. You could get some that way. Also, if you are really pressed for being able to get digital but have regular photos, I'd be willing to scan them and send them back to you (postage paid, of course) If your not in the states, you may be better soliciting the assistance of someone in your own country to save on postage and time.
  9. I have had brake pads slip out of the clips on the caliper and lay against the rotor when driving. Nasty sound that goes away when I applied the brakes. Once I discovered what it was, I replaced the clips and all was good.
  10. Jim Don't cut them down.... just lift the front a bit more.
  11. When I first got my pathy, the alarm would never passivly set. Turns out that it thought one of my doors was always open since one of the pins in the connector to the alarm unit was bent. Who knows what other mysterious symptoms something like this would cause. Check your connectors for your alarm and make sure no pins are screwed-up. That's my suggestion for a 'first check'.
  12. Nice pic of the Power-Out can. Are those your pretty pink fingernails Jim? :D
  13. I also had applied and sent pics but have not seen/heard anything back. My guess is that you will receive an email from Jim or be able to simply go to www.nissanpathfinders.com, select Members and look at the end of the list for your rig. When I looked a few days ago, the most recent member was from early Feb. I'm sure Jim has been too busy with his headers and steering component upgrade to take the time to process NPORA applicants.

Glad to hear the boards were of assistance to you. Welcome!
  15. Welcome. There is lots of good information in here but if you can't find what you are looking for, feel free to ask and we'll do our best to help.
  16. aah... a fellow 95'er. Welcome to the forums.
  17. If the distributer does not work, I would suggest an exorcism. Your rig obviously has some demons that don't want to leave. Besides the mass airflow sensor I mentioned earlier, the only other problem I have had with my 95 and idle oscillations has been due to a fuel filter (but you've addressed that already). Sorry, but this one has me stumped too.

I bought a 99 grand caravan off ebay not too long ago. The key is to do a little research. Mine was being auctioned by a used car dealership. I found their direct website and found the van in their listed inventory for about 6K more than was currently bid. A quick carfax check and some other looking around, and I threw down a bid and ended up winning. Of course, it got interesting when I called home and asked my wife if she wanted to go see the van I had just bought on ebay.
  20. Does the moderation cover the use of all those goofball slang profane phrases that are thrown around in non USA areas? I know this site is international but would anyone really know if I was swearing up a storm in German or Russian? Just curious. ps. No offense intended to our friends to the north or down-under (or anywhere else for that matter, except Texas)
  21. sit at idle with it fluctuating, open your hood and wiggle the connector on top of the mass airflow sensor. Good 'ol Nissan designed this poorly, with the connector on top and the wire coming straight out of the top (as opposed to a 90 degree connector). The result is that the wire from the mass airflow sensor actually hits the underside of the hood and flexes every time you open/close the hood. If that connection is bad, you'r pathy will not run for crud. If wiggling it makes no difference, that's not your problem. Good luck
  22. I have yet to read anything in these forums in which profanity was necessary. There are many ways to get your point across without being vulgar. Be creative. I think Jim is doing a great job with this board and would not like to see it turn into a big gripe session where every other post is F-this or F-that. Now... with that said... my stoopid frelling pathy is still leaking gas somewhere and I can't find it in this bleeping no-degree weather.
  23. Thanks It hasn't happened since my post but I have a few things to look at once the temp gets a little higher. Maintenance in the winter sucks! I have a garage but that's where I keep all my tools.
  24. When I looked at Pep Boys, they did not carry the right size for the Pathfinder. Maybe it was just my local store. Good luck
  25. This just started happenning over the past week or so. When I get into my Pathfinder and start it up, I smell gasoline. The smell does not seem to be there before I turn the key and it seems to go away fairly soon after it's been running but I will be paying much more attention over the next couple days. It runs fine and I get no engine warning (would expect one if I had a leaky injector). Any thoughts? For the record, it's a 95 4-door SE . Thanks
