  1. I keep getting different stories from Pep Boys. Now they say the sensors don't need replacing (good, when I called Nissan, they said they are $300.00+ each and shouldn't need replacing, unless broken somehow). However, instead of the Monroe sensa trac shocks, Pep Boys said they had to special order air shocks from Nissan  . I was told I'd get the truck back today (4 days late!) Hope I get it back in good working order. pssd
  2. Just got a call from Pep Boys saying they have to get new sensors for the shocks on my 96 SE Pathy. I realize the SE model has remote adjustable shocks to control ride quality (sport or soft), but I never used it (I bought it with 100000 miles on it, so probably never worked anyway). Does anybody know if these sensors really need to be replaced when you get new shocks? Pep Boy said they would have to get them from a Nissan dealer , so I asked if they could just bypass the sensors and switch. If not, what is a reasonable price for these sensors + labor? (If any thing bought from a dealer can be considered reasonable priced) Already searched this topic and didn't find anything about this specific subject. Thanks
  3. Thanks for all the replies! My 96 SE Pathfinder has 15 inch wheels. Current tire size is 265/70/15. (stock tire size)
  4. My understanding is that you get better traction with chains than with cables. However, a counter person at PepBoys said you can't use chains in a 96 Pathfinder because it would damage brake parts. Chances are I will never need to use them for my occasional trip to the slopes in Tahoe, but with my Michelin M/S rated Crossterrains, I also don't wnat to take a chance of getting stuck up there. Any input appreciated!
  5. I also use the Thule system for my kayak and skiis. Works great with the factory rack.
  6. Well, I took "something cool" and "88 pathyoffroads" advise, applied PB Penetrating Catalyst last PM and took my pathy over to Jiffy Lube. After the first tech couldn't muscle it off with standard tools, he called over a bigger tech with "Big Bertha" (basically a hollow aluminum or steel bar". He was able to pry the plugs off. Now all the fluids in my 1996 are fresh! Next I'll try out the CRC Air-Intake Cleaner on the sticky throttle linkage as advised in another thread.
  7. Thanks for fast reply. So you would advise taking to same or different mechanic to go ahead and heat it up. What could I expect if I didn't get done? Periodic grinding noise after a while?
  8. Had all the fluids changed in my new to me 96 Pathfinder SE (108500miles) along with new timing belt and H2O pump. Mechanics at Made in Japan said he could not service the rear differential because the plugs would not come out. Broke one bit with power tool and started to strip plug with second. Service adviser said they could heat it up, then try again, but a good chance they would have to drill it out, then get the metal shavings out of the differential. He finally advised waiting until problems develop with the rear diff. before doing anything else. What would the sage experts on this forum suggest?
  9. Hello to all. Just bouught a 96 Pathy SE with 108500 miles on it. With the sage advise/directions of this forum, I hope to get another 100,000 miles at least out of it.
