  1. Two points from the nhtsa link I haven't heard in the news: "VEHICLES ORIGINALLY SOLD IN OR CURRENTLY REGISTERED IN THE STATES OF CONNECTICUT, DELAWARE, IOWA, ILLINOIS, INDIANA, KENTUCKY, MASSACHUSETTS, MAINE, MARYLAND, MICHIGAN, MINNESOTA, NEW HAMPSHIRE, NEW JERSEY, NEW YORK, OHIO, PENNSYLVANIA, RHODE ISLAND, TENNESSEE, VERMONT, VIRGINIA, WEST VIRGINIA , WISCONSIN AND THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA" So if you don't live in one of those states maybe it was purchased there and would qualify. "THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR ABOUT NOVEMBER 26, 2007"
  2. The Toyota reference was because the news article was an announcement for both Toyota and Nissan recalls, probably would have made more sense with the full announcement: Car Recall Toyota is recalling optional all-weather floor mats that were in 55,000 Lexus ES 350 and Toyota Camry cars. Also, Nissan is recalling nearly 420,000 SUV's because of possible corrosion in the tube where the gas is pumped. The recall includes 1997 to 2001 models of the Nissan Pathfinder and Infiniti QX4 SUV's. For more information, call your local Toyota or Nissan dealer.
  3. Anyone seen the details for this new recall: Nissan is recalling nearly 420,000 SUV's because of possible corrosion in the tube where the gas is pumped. The recall includes 1997 to 2001 models of the Nissan Pathfinder and Infiniti QX4 SUV's. For more information, call your local Toyota or Nissan dealer.
  4. There are two locknut sockets that will work, OTC7698 and a CTA tool that I can't remember the number of. Here's one link with the OTC socket: http://www.handsontools.com/store/list_pro...product_number= You can also buy one of the common locknut sockets at any auto parts store and grind/bend the tabs to fit. Here's a pic of the dimensions you need: http://groups.msn.com/LewisPictures/shoebo...&PhotoID=21
  5. Should be a code on top of the LSD if you can find them, I think they were originally about 1" white letter/numbers. First two letters indicate if it's an LSD or not.
  6. Looks right, but you can find it cheaper than that: everythingnissan.com has it for $165 1stnissanparts.com has it for $158
  7. This link might help with the ATF flow. If you don't have the external air cooler then the line will just return from the radiator cooler back to the transmission. http://groups.msn.com/LewisPictures/shoebo...o&PhotoID=3
  8. There's a pretty long list of causes for the P0440, but when you get the P0440 and the P0446 together you only need to worry about the P0446 which points to the vent control valve on the EVAP canister. So the list of causes is much easier to check: Harness or connectors - EVAP vent control valve EVAP vent control valve EVAP pressure sensor Blocked rubber tube to the vent control valve. Pretty common that the vent control valve is stuck and not moving. See if you can get it off the canister and test with a 12V battery across the connections, you should see it move. If not clean it out and see if that gets it moving. But on my 97 the valve wouldn't come off the canister, the nuts inside the canister just spun. I had the same codes and replaced both the canister and valve, haven't had any problems since.
  9. Loose gas cap should give the P0440 Small EVAP Leak error. For the P0450 the causes are either the harness or connectors for the pressure sensor, the EVAP pressure sensor is bad, or the vent control valve is stuck open. Those vent control valves commonly go bad so you might try testing that first.
  10. I haven't seen the links in a while but from what I remember Autozone was sued in California and no longer read and erase OBDII codes for free in that state only. Sounds like they got around that by renting the tool for free and letting customers do it themselves. Good to know.
  11. Looks like you're in California so you're out of luck at Autozone, they won't read the codes in that state. Have you tried the steps in the sticky at the top of this forum, I'm curious if they actually work for a 2001+.
  12. Saw some steps to flash CEL codes on the dash in another forum, poster said the steps worked for his 2002 Pathfinder. I have no idea if it works, and the flashing code example for 0158 doesn't match the MIL codes that would flash for a 97. But it would be interesting to hear if someone with a newer pathfinder could get this to work. Even without the CEL lit it should flash 0505 for no codes. 1) Foot completely off throttle. Turn ignition on (don't start). Wait 3 seconds. 2) Depress throttle to WOT seven times quickly within five seconds. 3) Wait seven seconds, foot completely off throttle. 4) Depress and hold throttle at WOT for ten seconds until CEL starts blinking. 5) Take foot completely off throttle. The number of seconds is VERY critical. If it doesn't work at first, try it again. The CEL will enter diagnostic mode and start flashing out the trouble code(s) in sequence. The first digit will always be the slow blink. Digits 2-4 will blink fast. There will be a short pause in between digits. For example, ten slow blinks, one fast blink, five fast blinks, eight fast blinks is trouble code 0158. To clear the trouble codes, depress the throttle at WOT for 10 seconds while in diagnostic mode. When cleared, the CEL will flash 0-0-0-0 (ten flashes each). Turn the ignition to off then restart and your CEL will be off. Original Post: http://www.nissanforums.com/pathfinder/130...checklight.html
  13. Unfortunately 2000 was the last year with the diagnostic selector screw on the ECU.
  14. According to Nissan the A/T filter is a non-maintenance item. I pulled mine on my 97 after 100k and it had absolutely nothing on it. If you decide to drop the pan and take a look watch the bolts, they're classified as single use bolts and break easily.
