Nice! Don't see too many on the road anymore. This one has 338,000 kms / 210000 miles, so she's done a bit of work!

Finally found a fuel tank, will chase up a new fuel pump (tank came from a VG30 car, so assuming different pump [??]) and a half decent carb. Then I can get rid of the LPG conversion, which I am looking forward to. Also found that the engine has quite a bit of blowby, so will look at rebuilding the spare I have.

The advantage in my case was that I wrecked an '89 pathfinder and put the engine into an '86. I cbf hooking up the spark control computer that the 89 had and integrating it into the 86. (Talking Australian Spec here).

Thread revival here! But if anyone is thinking of changing from twin to single spark on a Z24, you will also need the oil pump drive from a single spark engine as the distributors are different lengths. I set mine up like that years ago, simply left the 2nd row of plugs in the LHS side of the head and ran leads to the RH side. It ran perfectly and it gave me no trouble for the 11 years I owned it. It did like to run on if the timing wasn't dead right, but I got that nailed pretty quick with a new electronic ignition.

Plenty of people have issues with brand new tyres man!

Also try rotating your tyres.

Make sure the bushings in the caster bars are not worn and that the hole/mounting point in the frame is not flogged out. Went through that before. Bushing needs positive location to be effective.

Start by looking at how you drive the car and where you feel it's shortfalls are. If you're new to off-roading you will find the car very capable as it is and may be happy to keep it as is! Start with things you need to enjoy your car more - Cant get up hills? Locker(s). Keep bottoming? Lift/Bigger tyres. Don't like the colour? Paint. Want to chat with mates when out wheeling? UHF Radio. I only spend money to make improvements I am going to use. Over here in Aus every man and his dog has 4wd utes dripping expensive gear - 2k driving lights, roof tents etc... And you can see they never see any offroad action. So go use it, and tailor your build to suit the type of driving you enjoy. Nice rig, enjoy it!

Having had both, I would say that the Y61 is a far better vehicle, but you want Pre-2007 with the TD42 engine. The rest are either fuel guzzlers, or junk.

Went up to our property for a day and in between working on the house tinkered with the car for a couple of hours. Removed all of the 'old man' add-ons Also threw my 31s on, but they are coming back off until I sort out a lift. Also found the culprit for my overheating issue Threw in a new water pump and radiator at the same time, went for a run, cool as a cucumber! That's it for now! Pete

G'day all, I was wondering if any knows if Gas and Diesel fuel tanks are interchangeable? I have an 86 Petrol WD21 which has been converted to run on LPG and I wish to put it back to Petrol. I have found a guy with a diesel terrano he is wrecking and was hoping to use the fuel tank and filler neck on mine. Obviously pump/ sender assy will be different. Any advice appreciated Peter

Gidday All, below is copied form my intro thread to get the ball rolling, will have updates next week! My name is Pete and I am from Victoria in Australia Here's My Old truck - 86 with a Z24. I had this thing for 11 trouble free years and I don't know what made me sell it but the second it drove off I regretted it. Fast forward a few years and it just came over me that I had to have another one. A few months of shopping I found this old girl and picked it up for a song. An '86 like my old one. The thing that sold me on this particular car were the condition of the body and the interior. Anyone into these cars will know how hard it is to find nice trim bits. And here is the only rust in the car, being a dry inland car After picking it up I got 50 km before it started overheating. Stopped, cooled it down, topped off the water and put a new radiator cap on, got another 10km and it overheated again. .. And again. Luckily we have roadside assist and they covered the tow (180km). First steps are to address the overheating issue. Will start with new waterpump, radiator and thermostat. If that doesn't fix it I still have a spare engine from my old pathy. Then I'll fit a 32/36 Weber, Extractors, remove the LP Gas Conversion. I know most of you are probably running VGs but I've always been a Z24 fan, and had a great run out of them. Over here the VGs have a rep for being a bit of a fuel guzzler. I'd like to find a set of factory wheelarch flares and do a lift and fit 31s. I'll be sure to update on progress but will be slow as the car is kept on a rural property I own, so I'll only get to work on it a couple of times a month. Very jealous! We're legally allowed 1" tyre diameter increase, 1" Track increase, max 50mm lift (and there are parts of our state where every 4x4 gets pulled over and measured) and a whole bunch of nanny-state restrictions before we need engineers certification, but there are still limitations. You can get away with a bit if you live away from cities and suburbia. Someone driving your beast would end up on the news over here.... You lucky devil!

I'd pop the drums and check the wheel cylinders, pop the dustcaps back and see in there is any moisture under them. This usually indicates a leaking cylinder. If all good change the brake fluid, make sure your tyres aren't rock hard. Then enjoy that thing!

Mate that is a weapon! Nice work, is that road legal over there? In Australia anything over a 50mm lift we are off the road!
