  1. Thanks for the tip! It ended up working out, when I put the new master cylinder in, I adjusted the pedal to whatever the old one was set at. Apparently this was wrong, with some pedal adjustment everything is working great.
  2. Hi everyone, I am having problems engaging and disengaging the clutch on my 5 speed 2002 Pathfinder. On Sunday morning I went to go out of my driveway and stalled a few times, found that weird. It appeared that the clutch was sticking to the floor in 1st gear. All other gears the clutch would pop back up to regular position. I took apart the slave, master, and lineset to make sure everything was clean and bled properly. Still with no dice, I replaced the master and slave cylinder. My clutch now doesn't engage or disengage property, the first half of the pedal does nothing. Doesn't matter what gear I'm in. Underneath the car it looks like the fork on the transmission isn't coming all the way back to push the slave pin, which would then push my pedal back up. I have been doing some research and this sounds like an issue with my clutch diaphragm spring or pressure plate. It seems like there is no other way to tell what's going on other than removing the transmission and inspecting. The previous owner did have the clutch done about a year or 2 ago, but this was my first manual car and may have taken some abuse. So my question is, do I go ahead and order a clutch kit, rip the tranny out and have at it? Or is there any other way to diagnose this issue? I have good mechanical experience and the required jacks to do a clutch, but I would prefer not to if possible. I am attaching a picture of where the fork on the transmission sits in its resting position. Resting position of my clutch fork. https://ibb.co/xFPw9jQ Any help is appreciated, thanks!
  3. Bumping an old thread here. My valve cover gasket is leaking on the passenger side. I was going to do the power valve screws as well, but I have a manual transmission. Is there seriously no power valves? Or is this too good to be true?
  4. Also, not sure if this is the right plate to post this. But if anyone needs a diagram of the TC shift linkage to help troubleshoot like I did. Here is this:
  5. Well.. Turns out the lockout plate was installed UPSIDE DOWN. The previous owner had the clutch done and whatever shop did it reinstalled the plate upside down. The guy at the nissan dealership was nice enough to send me a diagram, at first glance that confirmed my find. Reinstalled the right way up and the transfer case shifts like new... I find it truly unbelieveable that people who work on cars/transmissions every day can mess somthing up as simple as this. I'm a refrigeration mechanic and only work on cars when mine breaks down. Not rocket science. But anyways, this is the EXACT same issue that the OP described and I'm willing to bet the same thing was wrong with the pathfinder he was looking at buying...Should've went for it lol.
  6. Hey man! So I've managed to engage 4lo! I took off the linkage from the transfer case, manually shoved it into 4 lo and put a ziptie there just to hold it while I made sure it worked. Works like a charm! Now I need to find what the linkage is hitting. The previous owner said the clutch was done, I'm thinking maybe the mechanic put something in backwards or what not? Even with the linkage completely disconnected from the TC the shifter still feels like it is being "blocked" by something or hitting something .. thanks for your help so far.
  7. Ok thanks, I will try to find someone to shift while I'm underneath. So basically if it's not a linkage issue, then there's probably something wrong with the t case? I just find it hard to believe that it could be that damaged, when I changed the fluid I didn't see any metal shards at all... I will post back once I get under and try again, thanks!
  8. Still having this issue. I have the manual linkage transfer case and 4hi works perfect. I have tried going underneath the truck and greasing the linkage joins with penetrating oil in case anything is stuck. The gearbox is in neutral, and i try to shift into 4lo and it just does not want to go, the car feels like its just in neutral. I press the gas and nothing. I changed the fluid first thing and I still cant figure out why it doesn't want to engage 4lo at all. Sounds almost exactly like the issue the original poster had... Does anyone have a shot in the dark? Thanks, also I have email updates on now so I should get the replies right away.
  9. Did you ever figure this issue out? I have a 2002 Pathfinder 5 speed that will go into 4Lo but just feels like the vehicle is in neutral. 4hi works great
