    TOTM: THEMED MONTHS

The idea was put forward by packie88 with then intention of getting people out in their pathys to get themed shots.

It is only each alternate month that is themed, so you can post up whatever pic you want in the in between month (Some people will never see snow).

It is a kind of rule, but a loose one. For example, water crossing nominations may be considered if there is a mud crossing, the truck is in water, or crossing the road in a torrential rainpour. If you post up a pic with no water in sight, then that will be removed.

    Below are the monthly themes:

    January Anything goes

    February Snow pic

    March Anything goes

    April Water crossing pic

    May Anything goes

    June Sand pic

    July Anything goes

    August Flex pic

    September Anything goes

    October Sunset pic

    November Anything goes

    December Mud pic

This nomination thread is open through December 20 or until 20 submissions are reached (whichever comes first).

  2. Hit 200k miles yesterday, just getting started when it comes to Japanese engines but its more miles than any of my friends cars so that means I'm winning right? Lately its been idling at what seems a bit low, around 500 RPM, but its still running really healthy and revs good so probably just something that needs cleaning...I should look into it before the weather gets much worse, but with the way this semester is going I'm probably going to ignore it until I have time around Christmas.

Hello all. This is all very new to me so excuse me if I'm not in the right spot.

I wanted to share my 1990 Nissan Pathfinder SE V6 with the Sport Package.  I bought this from the estate of the original owner a while back and I think that it's pretty special. The original owner was a single lady who purchased it new in Phoenix AZ and always kept it garaged at the same home for it's entire life. It has just over 51,000 original miles on it and being in AZ, it has no rust whatsoever.  It's stunningly original throughout with virtually no wear on the interior and a most excellent exterior. It even has the original floor mats and has never been smoked in. The original owner was OCD about this vehicle and had every bit of maintenance and repair documented and included her own notes (I have files of the stuff). I even have the original window sticker, cancelled check used to buy it, original spare cover and the dealership promo brochures.

It had been sitting for a few years so I had it towed to my mechanic and had everything gone through front to back to put it into "daily driver" condition.  I wanted to be able to take it anywhere, even off-road without a second thought so I really had it gone through.  I replaced all fluids including differentials and coolant, timing belt and water pump, u-joints on rear drive shaft, new drive belts, shocks, muffler and tailpipe, battery and even the gas struts on the rear hatch and window. Absolutely everything works including the AC. There was always a dash-mat on the dash  so it's perfect too.  I put 4 brand new BF Goodrich KO2's on it and it had the optional 31X10 5R15 tires originally.  The sport package includes 15" alloy wheels and tires, glass flip-up sunroof with shade, limited slip differential, rear disk brakes, outside tire carrier, wheel locks, fog lights, fender flairs and running boards. The transfer case had a small leak and the original owner tried to address it at one point. I determined that there was a tiny crack so I sourced a transfer case in AZ that came from the same year Pathfinder that had 101K original miles and had it installed. I'm as obsessive as the original owner and none of my vehicles leak anything....ever.

This is probably the only one like it anywhere.  People drove these things like trucks so to find one so well preserved is pretty rare I guess.  I didn't slick it up, polish hoses or shine the interior. It was so clean, that I vacuumed and washed it and did a quick polish to protect the paint.  It's about as honest as a 30 year old vehicle gets.

So, I'm really happy to have this gem of a truck but it doesn't get hardly any use. It seems too nice to take off road so I drive it sometimes for pleasure but I'm not sure what I'll do with it ultimately.  Sometimes I think that it should have a home with someone who will use it more often. I use my other rides for off road, camping etc. I have a 2006 Toyota Sequoia 4X4 with 151,000 miles and a 2005 Toyota 4Runner SR5 with 70,000 original miles. It has a nice home in my garage and maybe it will get out more now that the weather is getting cooler in AZ.

I've posted a link to my photos. Hope that you enjoy them and find my "one of a kind" Pathy interesting and fun to look at.

Wow, that thing really looks stunning! Great history for it, lucky score!

  6. Wow, those are some beefy bumpers! I can't remember exactly now, but I think I remember reading that WD21 and R50 coils can be used interchangeably? That could be totally incorrect though. If that is right, coils from Land Rovers are an option which have a ton of variety available, I'm sure you could find something that meets your required specifications from that.

We had the recall done for the shock tower rust. The darn thing collapsed on the driver's side. I could not believe Nissan stood behind it and fixed it with as bad as it was. Where abouts in Michigan are you? I have been thinking of taking it to the "mounds" but to be honest I know nothing about it. I will be new to off reading, lol.

I'm in the Grand Rapids area, your profile shows you're in Parshallville? I haven't really hit up any of the offroad parks (except for Rocks and Valleys 3 or 4 years ago), but I do enjoy exploring Manistee National Forest. I've been thinking about heading towards West Branch to do some of the trails there.

  8. Howdy fellow Michigan guy! Definitely check the condition of the strut towers and other locations on the underside for corrosion damage. I'm not suggesting all hope is gone if its rusty down there by any means, but you'll definitely want to know what you're up against as you dig back into your project.

As far as replacement parts, finding clean ones is tricky in Michigan. Unfortunately due to their resale value these vehicles have become largely disposable, and Michigan road conditions throughout the year don't help that up here. When I had my QX4 I frequently found useable parts at pick-and-pulls in the Grand Rapids area, they all have online inventories with pictures. Here's the 4 I've been to, it may be worth the drive if they've got the parts you need:

Weller Self Serve (it's not uncommon for these guys to have 1/2 off days):

I'm in a Toyota now but I know a few Nissan guys in the state, if you ever want to go wheeling let me know!

  9. I probably could have updated this sooner, but here's the update on my old QX4. It's now 100% guaranteed that I'll never get it back, pretty sure it's scrapped. I saw it pop up for sale a few times over the spring, with the price slowly decreasing. Eventually I began to see listings on Facebook for it being parted out, and now all signs of it are gone. It kinda sucks, but it seems appropriate. The unibody held up the whole time from what I understand, but I can't imagine the strut towers had very many more miles in them.

From the final for sale posts, I gather that it was ran very hard towards the end, as it had a busted passenger side mirror, some body damage, and a hyrolocked engine. At least it went out in 4x4 with mud flying! Seems very fitting, a very different end to it's mechanical life than where it started on the luxury car lot. Just figured some of y'all would appreciate a final update, and it does finish up this thread finally. I believe I have screenshots of some of the for-sale ads, which I'll add here when I find them.
