I'm running this one on my '92 since my original one got ripped up pretty good. Quality is pretty decent, just make sure to keep those self-wash/pressure wands away from the lettering... I messed my last one up pretty good.

I had a headlight lose a seal too. I filled it with water to find where it was leaking (think I had to blow into it to really track anything down), then dried it out and JB welded the seam all the way around. Still holding strong against moisture, but I think I waited a little too long, because some of the reflective coating inside the housing peeled off.

My grille comes off without pulling the bumper, though I've got the later bumper too. Might be a little tight to get the screwdriver in there, but it should be doable. You may also have a hard time if your bumper's a little cockeyed; the bottom screw for one of my corner lights has been more difficult to work with since the bumper had an argument with a hoof rat a while ago.

I replaced the clips with zip ties on mine.

Good call on filling it with water to find the leak Slart. I was planning on just sealing the entire housing and hoping it would be solve the problem, but tracking it down first is probably a good idea.

And yes my grille is a little cockeyed, I'm hoping I should be able to get it out with how it is currently. If I snap any clips/fasteners I've got a good supply of zip-ties standing by lol.

With my 93, it is a bit battered so I may be incorrect with your 92. I know the bumper is different, but shouldn't be enough. I had my grille out a week ago and not only are the 5 clips on top, you have the 2 screws under the headlights. You will also need to take the corner marker lights off. Then you should be able to tilt the grille out and lift it out. I think the lower mounts are just pins going into brackets with plastic bushings to hold tight. For the top clips, it is gently rotate the front with a flat screwdriver until the head popps through the hole in the grille. When reinstalling, you squeeze the 2 clips together and pull it out of the body. Then gently line the square head up with the hole in the grille and press it through with light twist until it snapps into place. Then you simply press the grille back into place.

Don't know if they still have them, but here in Utah, the Lowe's stores actually stocked the Nissan grill clips in the specialty hardware drawers. It is an option to try when some of them break.

Thank you very much. I appreciate the level of detail you went into, this is the most info I've been able to find anywhere on the subject matter.

Also thank you for the input on Lowe's potentially having replacement grill clips, I will definitely take a look there if I manage to snap any.

  4. Hey all, hopefully I don't look too dumb asking this question, I'm just reluctant to yank/force anything on this rig since all the plastic is so brittle and old.

Over the winter I lost my passenger side headlight seal, and now that it's warming up outside it's really starting to build up some serious condensation. They're the factory OEM glass housings and they're basically flawless otherwise, so I would like to try and remove it and reseal it with some sort of silicone. Problem is getting to the bolts that hold in the headlight, and it looks like they're behind the grille.

I can see the top 5 mounting points with small square plastic screws, and 2 small philips screws under each headlight. It also looks like there's another 3 mounting points across the bottom of the grille, but I can't see how to access it without removing the plastic cover that's on the top of the bumper as well. Can anyone confirm if this is correct? If so can someone shed some light on how to pull that plastic cover off the bumper?

    Thank you much

  5. Little late to the thread here, but I'm suffering from what sounds like the same issue. Let me know if replacing the rear bushings gets your problem figured out! I'm starting to get mildly concerned about the amount of play and squeaking I get...

  6. I am trying to figure out why my power indicator is not flashing the codes. I would not think that my 93 model would make a difference.

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk

Ahhh my bad, I didn't realize that was your issue haha. Yeah mine's a '92 and that worked for me, so I don't really have anything for ya then...

Good luck on figuring it out though!

  7. Attempting to troubleshoot my transmission disengaging and engaging overdrive erratically. First step is to rule out a worn TPS and try to remember how to access the transmission diagnostic mode.

When my tranny was doing this I used the diagnostic mode to help get an idea what it was doing. I don't remember what the culprit was but I did bookmark the service manual in case I would ever need to come back to it. If I remember correctly it's on page AT-39.

  8. Awesome thanks! I will be looking into fixing that! Good luck with the ABS light!!

My man, thank you for the recommendation on checking under the head unit, you were right. Now I'm confused as to why it was there and not under my driver seat since I have a '92... oh well, I unplugged it and my light is FINALLY gone. Tested the brakes with and without the computer plugged in as well, they feel exactly the same lol. That computer has probably been shot for almost 10 years now.

Thanks again, it's pure bliss seeing this dash all lit up at night without any other lights on that shouldn't be. One step closer!

  9. I may be wrong but I seem to remember an ABS box behind the piece of plastic that mats the center console cluster to the carpet over the tranny hump. Directly in front of your shift boot. I may be remembering wrong because it was a long time ago. I have never had an ABS light except when my fluid ran low. I have a 1991.

I also have the same exact 4x4 light problem, with the gas it stays more solid. and otherwise flickers, all while in 2wd. in 4x4 i have no light. has been like that quite a while, just haven't messed with it. Next time I get it in the air I will take a look at it.

Do you have the part number of the switch on hand still? Thanks!!

My god I think you might be right. I do remember when I pulled the dash apart to install my head unit and fix the light behind my climate controls that there was an electronic box mounted behind the plastic cover in front of the shifter like you said. I'll definitely be taking a look at it in the morning, you may have finally pointed me in the right direction.

As far as the issue with your 4wd light goes, odds are it's just those switches. There's two of them, one is for when the t-case is in 4wd, and the other is for when it's in neutral. It's odd because I searched Nissan's website to see if I could find those part numbers for you, and I'm getting either duplicates of the same part with a different number, or the part was superseded with a newer replacement and I received old stock...? I don't have the part number for the 4wd switch, but I do have the part number for the neutral switch.

    It's labeled "SWITCH NEUTRAL" part #: 32005-ZD31A

Here's the link to the switches I found on Nissan's part site, labeled "SWITCH-ASSY 4WD" and "TRANSFER NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH." Good luck on figuring it out!

  10. I'm a bit late to this thread but wow! I had a similar problem as to what you are describing, but after swapping my MC all my issues seem to be resolved...

Considering I just went down to my local O' Reily's and had them order a new one, I'm glad the one I got was the correct one and not for the drums as you said. My rear brakes definitely don't work near as well as my fronts, I'm assuming the ABS system is at fault for that... now if only I could find that damn computer lol.

  11. Well it looks like I was beaten by both the 4WD switch and the ABS light now. The new switch came in today, and upon reinstalling it worked for about 15-20 seconds, until the light started flickering again in 2HI. When I shift it into 4HI or 4LO now its a very solid and consistent brightness on the light on the dash, but it's loose in 2HI. Pulling out the switches and engaging them manually with my hands proved that the switches/electrical is functioning correctly, but something's either worn out or out of alignment inside my t-case now.

    Any thoughts? Cheers

  12. Got back from the weekend road trip and picked the truck up from the exhaust shop. The knock off magnaflow sounds great and the truck pulls herself so much better.

Took her off road since the gates are open. And went down a new road for a bit, got stopped twice to downed trees that I couldn't move myself and didn't have my straps with me since they were taken out while at the exhaust shop to pull them. Did a small little hill climb though, fun as always

Replaced the cheap air filter with one that is better quality and less restrictive last night while hosing the dried mud off. Excited to start wheeling again :)

Knock off magnaflow huh... my exhaust has at least one solid leak and it's real rusty so it's gonna need some attention soon. Any chances you could shoot a video of what it sounds like? You've got me thinking...

  13. So thanks to the guys down at the Nissan dealership I ended up receiving a replacement neutral switch rather than a 4wd switch. I'm still not exactly sure what the neutral switch's function fully is, but it was just as busted as the 4wd switch. Here's what the top of the switch looked like where the rubber grommet went over. KQ5jvRn.jpg

The other switch looks exactly the same, so now I've got that one ordered. It's a process, but I'm getting there

  14. Yours is a 92. Maybe it was never there on that year. I'm just going off of what my 1994 has. Could be somewhere else.

No problem, I appreciate the input no matter what. I would much rather take my advice from other Pathy owners than a general mechanic/electrician!

  15. The abs box is under some metal cover you need to unbolt first... at least for me it is. Take the drivers seat out and check again!

Hmmm... well unless this metal cover is underneath the carpeting as well, then I just don't think it's there anymore. I'm really at a loss with where they hid this computer, it doesn't look THAT small so I feel like it shouldn't be that hard to spot... oh well, the search continues.

  16. Bizarre. I guess you could find the check connector for the ABS and follow that wire to the module. Or look at the harness routing diagram and see where that harness is supposed to tie into the main harness, find where it branches, and then follow it to wherever somebody stuffed the ABS brain. I think the harness comes off the main harness going along the driver's side by the doors, though I'm not sure where they would've found the slack to stuff it somewhere.

Good call on this, if I can find time later this week this is what I'll be attempting. Honestly the light has been on for so long that it doesn't really bother me that much, but after I get the 4WD light taken care of this will be the next thing I'm focusing on.

Thanks again for the info, this stuff is priceless considering how hard it is to find info on these rigs sometimes.

  17. Yeah, that's a mess, all right. Fat red wires with copper showing make me nervous.

The ABS computer looks like this. I'm not sure what your black box is. Is it labelled on the other side?

Yep, and the sad thing is I have a good idea where the wires go/came from, I just don't have the time to crawl under there and figure out where goes where... it's a bit daunting.

Flipping the black box over revealed it was not the ABS computer, it must just be some other component to my aftermarket alarm system. I've checked all over her, under the passenger seat (only the ECU is there), the rear quarter panel compartments, under the rear seats, under the dash (driver and passenger side), and I can't find the computer anywhere... maybe that's why the light's on lol.

According to my father (he worked alongside the person who installed most of this crap), they must've relocated the computer somewhere because the light wasn't on for many many years after the install, but I have no idea now.

I'm at a loss with this damn light, it's honestly a running joke in the family now because of how long we've tried to get it fixed :laugh:

  18. The switch is threaded like a bolt (like how a coolant temp sensor mounts up). There's a little plunger sticking out the end that closes or opens the circuit when some part of the shift linkage pushes on it. Maybe the spring that returns the plunger is buggered and it's letting the plunger flop around as the transfer vibrates?

If you want to check it, you could remove the switch (have a drain pan ready in case it's holding back fluid), then shake it and have someone in the truck tell you if the light's going nuts.

And yeah, the ABS computer is under the seat. It's the one closer to the door.

Thanks for the info Slart and Adam, I really appreciate it. So once upon a time, this Pathy had an aftermarket stereo and alarm system installed. It was done professionally, but there's been way too many uniformed people pawing through the rats nest of wiring underneath my dash to make sense of anything anymore... but that's not the issue. The issue is that the amplifier for the stereo resided underneath the drivers side seat, so there's absolutely nothing under it but carpet now.

So I'm assuming the ABS computer was relocated to underneath the dash? I'm guessing it's the little black box with the sticker that says "OK" on it. Let me know what you guys think.

    OfHAdlz.jpg

And Slart, I removed the switch today from the t-case and shook it around like you mentioned, and the light did flicker very sporadically so I think it's the switch failing. I went down to Autozone, O Reily's, and a local shop and none of them had the switch in their computer systems, let alone in-store. I went to Nissan directly and they were able to source one, but it was $50 and it's gonna take a week to get here... this better be the fix lol.

  19. And sorry that I still need clarification on this, I'm still learning about transmissions and t-cases. It's my understanding the connection that I unplugged has a wire running to the physical t-case to a connection with a black rubber grommet over what looks like a bolt; the switch is underneath that?

I may have spoken too soon on that connection being the fix, it's started flickering again. Sounds like I'm gonna need to replace the switch? I should mention there's no flickering with the harness unplugged.
