If a smaller SFD was available...?
TowndawgR50 replied to hawairish's topic in 96-2004 R50 Pathfinders
Yea, they're really good for tight spaces. Not so much for hi torque requirements though. We use them for certain applications at work and the three categories of strength to consider are spin out, pull out and push out strength. That's why I was thinking a welded nut would do the same thing but be much stronger -

What's the strength of those fasteners? Those are the rivet type, right? -

looks great! -
Nice, Thanks Xplorx4. The Niagara area is gorgeous. Love it up there. Haven't taken any trails but traveled quite a bit in the region. Are you taking any trips in that direction this summer?

I might be game, depending on the date.

Calling All Bay Area Wheelers! (Meet and Greet)
TowndawgR50 replied to Enjoi408's topic in Southwest States
Alameda here. What about the Sierra area? it's gorgeous up there and lots of cool stuff like mines and ghost towns. -
I'm in. East bay here.

sounds good. I'm geared towards off road traveling, not so much just "wheeling". While I do like the adventures of trails at parks and such heading through some terrain to get to a point of interest and continue on to an exit route is more appealing. Maybe tour some old ghost towns or points of geological significance? The pics at the beginning of this thread were from Poker Flat and the Sierra Buttes trails, neither of which were loops or dead ends. So much fun with moderate technical sections that looked intimidating but we're easily handled by the Pathfinder.

I'd really like a rear carrier as well. Might end up just making one that's bumper mounted
-
Thanks, Enjoi. Good to know there are more R50 folks here in the bay area. Where do you usually go? Hollister? I've been hearing good things about Cow Mountain, near Santa Rosa. Ever been? Not too many areas to wheel near us as far as I can tell.
-
Such a bad ass looking bumper, Misterwizard. The best I've seen on a face lifted R50

Sounds good. Shoot me a txt

Not sure since I haven't torn down my pathfinder yet but maybe our driveshafts are balanced and during the course of wheeling/driving the balancing weights have come off. I had the balance weights come off a driveshaft on my old GMC. Caused vibration at certain speeds.

sounds good. Would love to see your rig in person. Let me know next time you're in town

Ah, next to that ship yard? I feel like the gate was always closed when i went there. Did you notice the old crane next to the ferry terminal is gone? That place is changing a lot.
-
Recognized the crane right away. how'd you get back there? Was the gate open?
-
I'm right there in Alameda where you took those pics

Can't delete double post. Moderator help?

I'm in Alameda now. Won't beofor long though. Moving to Washington towards the end of the year Thanks for the offer, Delta. Not sure I'll get to it this summer but I would love to see yours in person. Those pics you took were right down the road from where I work. Recognized the crane. Your truck looks so sick

I read the thread but didnt see any sketches. Might be one of the photo links that no longer works?? Im in the SF Bay Area.

Thats bad ass! I see you are in the neighborhood too....

Thank you! I really appreciate the shared knowledge and experience. For now the spacers will do. August is fast approaching and just getting everything ready for our Washington trip is enough to keep me busy.
-
I hear you. Sometimes the time taken to get around it all negates the solutions all together. I feel i need to get under there and have a look around. I cant really get a good sense of what the unibody to sub-frame mounting location looks like from these pictures. I'm a marine machinist/fabricator by trade so these types of situations dont deter me entirely. That being said, I would like to be efficient about this. Also not really trying to go so high as this has to be family friendly and the wife already has issues with the stock height without the running boards...Compromise, compromise, compromise....

Why not make spacers with hardware that is welded in so there is no need for access to inside the tubing? There would just need to be space for a bolt to be inserted from underneath. Has anyone tried this?

Whats the long story? What would be more constraining?
