The CRV and rav 4 are too small for us. I am 6'2" 260, so that's not going to work. I have thought about the Subie. I tried an outback and it didn't work, I like the forester, but She WHo Must be Obeyed won't hear of it. Somehow she has bad associations with the subaru. The pathy is a good choice as far as size etc. We have also looked at a ML320 (around 17k for a 1999-2000 with 40-50k), Isuzu Trooper (wife has bad associations from an accident), sheep grand cherokee (to chintzy for me), 4runner etc. It seems like the choice has come down to a pathy (cheaper and good looking, reliable, etc) and the ML320 (prestige, nice riding, good offroad)

She is swapping from a passat wagon. Her car was totalled last week, and is looking for a replacement. She wants something about the same size for all the baby gear. I am pushing for the pathy because of the frequent camping we do. Obviously the age is a factor, as is the lower mileage. I do think the 1999 is actually a 1999.5. It has the squarer grill in front. One advantage to the 2001 is that i think it has the AWD as well as the 4wd. This isn't super useful for us in Vegas, but would have been nice when we were in Utah. I didn't know that about the shocks. That is good to know. Any other year specific problems? Any other thoughts

I am looking to buy a newer pathy for my wife. The choice is between a 1999 LE Special Edition or a 2001 LE. Both are 4wd and auto (for my wife). I know the 2001 has the larger 3.5 liter engine which would be nice. But the 1999 is 2/3 the price ($10500 - 50k miles, 2001 is $15800, 36k miles) Any thoughts, pros or cons to each one? Thanks.

I love my pathy, but those troopers are pretty capable. I had one before, but I had the V6. Horrible Horrible V6. Only 10 more HP than the 4 cyl, and much less reliable, worse gas mileage etc. Yes the troopers are tall, but so are many offroad vehicles. Which engine is in the trooper? The 4 cyl or the 2.8 GM V6? If it is the 2.8, you can swap directly over to the GM 3.4 liter (more power) with basically no modifying. You can also do the same with the 4.3 v6 (much more power), but it requires a little more adjusting. You can also do swap the 4 cyl, but the 6 cyl uses the same tranny and t case. Also, if it is a 6 cyl, it could be overheating because of an external oil cooler. I has one, and the lines ran right along the wheel arch along the driver;s side inner fender. They ran right past the exhaust manifold, and the retaining strap (a piece of plastic) had come loose and were rubbing on the exhaust. Of course I didn't notice that little bit of info (just thought I was running hot climbing the grade from Phx to Flagstaff), until a big cloud of smoke billowed behind me. Yup this was in the middle of nowhere, except for a little sleazeball repair shop, 30 miles from Page, AZ. Now that is another story (involving paying them $500 for nothing and getting a 2 am 300 mile tow!)

I wonder if you could use seats from a 240sx? They should flip far enough forward. Also a Z seat might work.

It shouldn't take you longer than say 15-30 minutes to take the rack off. It might be handy to have a friend help you hold the rack while you take off the final bolts. The hardest part will be repairing the bodywork. When I removed mine to repaintI had some ugly holes with some nasty rust. I wire brushed the surface rust and then sprayed a rust converting primer. But I put my rack back on. If you didn't I imagine you might have some hefty bodywork bills (unless you are good at it yourself).

Basically the alarm goes off if you fail to put the key in the ignition within a set period of time from opening the door (i think like 30 seconds). This applies to the doors and hatch, but i am not sure if it applies to the rear glass. I think it also has a shock sensor as well.

I agree on the high quality product. Online is good to get some competition and for a guage on price. You can pick different types of shirts, but it might be better to have someone handle it locally where you can actually see the shirt. I would be happy to handle the cash transaction (collecting orders) unless whoever is ordering wants to do that. I can set it up via check or paypal account. Why don't we put up the final designs in a poll and have people vote?

Anyone volunteer to collect the $$$ and order the shirts? How about $15 plus shipping (like 2-3 in the US) for the 1st shirt $30 for 2 in the US including shipping? Also we should get a running list of who wants what sizes. Also are we going to do 1 color shirt or 2?

varieties - weights - whatever. They sell they MTL which works in GL3 & GL4 and the mt90 which works in a gl4. "RED LINE MTL and MT- 90 are designed to provide excellent protection and improved shiftability for manual transmissions and transaxles. MTL and MT- 90 have cured the problem of hard shifting in numerous transmissions which have notoriously difficult shifting. The secret to their success is two - fold. First, they have the appropriate coefficient of friction for most manual transmission synchronizers. Many gear oils, engine oils, and ATFs are too slippery for proper synchro engagement. Secondly, the viscosity characteristics of MTL and MT - 90 allow proper shifting over the entire temperature range which the transmission will experience. The synthetic base oils used have a very high viscosity index which provides relatively constant viscosity as temperature changes. MTL is a low 75W, almost a 70W, at very low temperatures and a high 80W, nearly an 85W, at elevated temperatures, providing adequate viscosity to prevent wear and deaden gear noise. MT - 90 is a thicker 75W90 version of MTL. The shear stability and oxidation stability of these products are excellent, thus the physical characteristics of Red Line MTL and MT-90 will change little with use. Red Line MTL is classified as a 75W/80W gear lubricant satisfying the API Service requirements of GL - 3 and GL - 4. MTL also satisfies motor oil viscosities SAE 5W/10W/30, and the viscosity requirements for ATF's. MT - 90 is a 75W90 GL - 4 and also satisfies motor oil viscosities SAE 10W/15W/40. The additive chemistry used is non - corrosive, so even though they will provide GL - 4 performance, they will not corrode synchros or bushings

redline carries the gl4 oil in two varieties. Fairly expensive, but how often do you cange your gear oil? Hopefully not every 3 months. YOu can order it online from about a million stores, or most parts jobbers will carry it. Look on redline's website

Love the t shirts! I liked the high contrastblack, but the shaded grey looks good. Would it be much cheaper to do the one design? Personally I would prefer silk screened to iron on if at all possible. Great work on the design DSM!!!

I am in las vegas, and a few weeks ago I had to pay 2.75 for my wife's passat (higher octane). it got crazy when the pipeline broke from LA to here. It was crazy high, now it is down to a reasonable 2.21 or 2.27 depending where at

its not a very expensive fix - like 20-30 bucks. Sometimes the swicth can get stuck, so make sure you have some leverage.

I found that the Rustoleum Vinyl Paint (kind you use for vinyl seats) works really well for wiper arms - Gives a nice soft satin look.

What about a simple TEAM @ NPORA (@ is Nissan Logo), with www.nissanpathfinders.com below (in red) Maybe "Find your Own Path" or something like that too.

Thanks - I did ultimately figure it out. Luckily a fellow pathy owner parked right next to me when I was leaving work. BTW - a new shot of black paint with some clear coat over the top made a world of difference. Next comes the spoiler!

not being a mechanical genius excuse my ignorance - 4 of the bolts have a 4 stamped on them, 4 have a 7 stamped. What would you call that? I was planning on working it out if I didn't hear from someone today, pictures would require as much work as figuring it out. I just need to figure out if the short ones go on the latch part (attaches to the frame on the lower left) or the tire holder part (attaches on the middle). Both bolts are the same diameter and will work in either holes, but obviously there was a reason the bolt was designed shorter. So if someone has a spare tire rack, if you could go outside and see which set of bolts has a 4 stamped on the top! Thanks
